Last Notes npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd Today's myth about Thailand đšđ (#5) is that the infrastructure sucks. The truth is itâs just as good if not better than what I was used to in the USA. Take a few examples: - Hospitals: private system is very efficient and cheap with great care. - Education: plenty of private intl schools with tuition around $4,000 a year (lot of variance here). - Transportation: Bangkok is connected to 100+ intl destinations, and Thailand has (checks wikipedia) 39(!) airports around the country. Round trip Chiang Mai to Bangkok is ~$60. Bangkok has 2 local train networks: BTS and MRT. And the road network across Thailand is vast - everywhere is reachable by car. - Shopping and Shipping: 1 day around Thailand, Shopee and Lazada are the Amazons of Thailand. - Internet: I pay $15/month for 100mb up/down on my phone, and $12/mo at home for 300mb up/down. Don't sleep on Thailand đšđ What else about Thailand's infrastructure do you want to know? Drop a comment and I'll do my best to answer. https://m.primal.net/JAXG.mov npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd @npub1teawtzxh6y02cnp9jphxm2q8u6xxfx85nguwg6ftuksgjctvavvqnsgq5u Verifying My Public Key: "captainsidd" npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd GM #gm #catstr #siamstr https://m.primal.net/Izar.jpg npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd Today's myth about Thailand đšđ (#4) is that it's dangerous here. This is probably the most laughable myth I've heard about Thailand. I understand why it exists: I grew up in the USA đşđ¸ and the brainwashing that "everywhere else is poor and therefore dangerous" is strong... but you are more likely to die in your local grocery store in America than literally anywhere in Thailand. Thailand is by far the safest place I've ever lived in my life. There is virtually no violent or petty crime here. Imagine if the entire world was your living room - that's what it feels like to go anywhere in this country. After 5 years in Thailand, I'm discovering that Bitcoin runs deep here. There are Bitcoiners everywhere, they're just low key about it! The Bitcoin scene among Thais is large and growing fast. The Bitcoin Standard is now the #2 book at Naiin, a major bookstore in Thailand. There's a 4,000 person Discord server in Thai language dedicated to all things #Bitcoin , and the educational company @Right Shift has 30k YouTube followers and runs a global Bitcoin conference in Bangkok: v2 coming in September 2024. Also, check out the #siamstr community đ Bitcoin physical spaces and meetups like @npub13pnâŚgctw by PlebPiccoloJr (you on Nostr?) and @npub1e2aâŚ8a4l , Bitcoin Learning Center by @npub1c9râŚxu4k in Chiang Mai and @npub1yyhâŚxnuq in Phuket are also growing across the country. Itâs easy to get by here with just English (even basic English!) Thais learn English in school, and they are generally courteous, kind and accommodating. Most everyone you encounter in a restaurant, cafe or hotel will be able to communicate with you. That said, if youâre planning to live here or spend significant time here, you should invest time in learning the language. It will open many doors for you and make more complex interactions with govt, repair shops etc a lot smoother. Learn the written language first - it takes a few weeks of 15 min a day to get the character set memorized - and you will have a strong foundation for pronunciation and vocabulary. I used a course called Learn Thai From a White Guy to get the written language and sounds nailed. The rest I learned through daily life and some private tutoring. ŕšŕ¸ŕ¸ŕ¸ŕ¸ľŕ¸ŕ¸°ŕ¸ŕ¸Łŕ¸ąŕ¸đ https://m.primal.net/IwQd.mov npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd Some are STILL in prison for protesting? Hereâs myth #1: Thailand is just for backpackers. Maybe this was true 20 years ago, but it couldnât be further from the truth today. Yes, Thailand has a low cost of living. But it also has incredibly high quality and high value services. For instance, I can get a Thai massage at a local shop for $6/hour. Or I can go to one of the many high end spas in Chiang Mai and get the service, amenities and surroundings of a 5-star hotel for $30/hour. I can eat a local meal for $2, or a Michelin-star fine dining meal for $100. Beers in a local bar for $2 a pop, glitzy rooftop cocktails for $10. These are all accessible within Thailand, matched with service thatâs way above and beyond for the price youâre paying. You can definitely live a cheap life here; but you can also live one of great luxury, for good value. We are being divided, pillaged, and made dependent on a corporate-governmental system for our very survival on all fronts: economic, social, mental, and spiritual. So what are we left with? A society that is tearing itself apart; there is no respect for one another, let alone self-esteem or the will to grow and create better days. We are increasingly affected by confusion, fear, depression, anxiety, self-limitations, analysis paralysis and addictions of many forms. The only perspective we all seem to share these days is that we cannot go on like this. Something must change. Weathering whatever change may come will require a new mindset, new skills, and new relationships which few of us today are accustomed to developing or practicing. We must develop sovereignty within ourselves, our families and our communities. Holding Bitcoin will not be enough. We must develop the mindset, skills and relationships necessary to resist dependence on the system not only for goods and services, but more importantly for our sense of self, our adaptability, our feeling of security. Without this belief in your own abilities - and the experience to back it up - you will bend the knee along with every other unprepared soul. Developing sovereignty isnât achievable from your couch. It isn't taught (well) on YouTube. It requires you to go out of your norm, to get uncomfortable, to experience a wider range of emotions in life. Sovereignty is its own form of Proof of Work. And cultivating your sovereignty is the only way to weather the changes already in progress in our economy and society. You thought the Ride of Passage was a motorcycle trip? Look a few layers deeper. https://rideofpassage.live npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd That which you give attention to grows - learning and observing this in everyday life has been very helpful for me. Purpose has been the most helpful. Having a direction and not giving up, working with others to help get through blockers, and offering value to others. I'm rereading the book Think and Grow Rich. I read it once in 2020 when I had a 9-5 job and it struck me as fairly obvious. Now I am picking up on deeper meanings and threads between the lines. Ultimately I don't think any of this that you're talking about - a sovereign mind / body - can be told to anyone; it has to be understood through personal experience. Good luck and if you ever want to talk, I'm happy to bounce ideas around. Love this stuff. npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd I know many of you are disappointed that the Ride of Passage is on motorcycles. A van trip would be more inclusive and easier, but that's not the point of a Ride of Passage. The Ride of Passage is on motorcycles because each ride is designed to push your comfort zone. Motorcycles are optimized for growth, challenge, and thrill - not comfort. Taking a van wouldn't create the experience I want to have. We need to rough it - in the right ways. My first motorcycle ride was the 3 hour mountain road to Pai, where I almost wiped out multiple times. Was it comfortable? Not at all. Did I grow in a massive way? Undeniably. Now the Ride of Passage is NOT about putting your life in danger - but it's not a vacation either. I've designed the Ride of Passage to push your boundaries, within limits. Many parts will feel like a high end tour, from 5-star hotels to incredible local food and personal connections. Others may have you going, "why the hell did I sign up for this?" But I guarantee when it's all said and done, you will be glad you came on the ride. The defeated challenges, conquered fears, expanded horizons and deeper bonds forged through a Ride of Passage will be worth the time away from home. This is not a vacation. It is far more rewarding. This will shake you out of a rut. Quite literally change your life. Join one or hear about future rides (on and off motorcycles): https://rideofpassage.live npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd Over the past four years Iâve started building websites to rank in Google. The idea is to get organic traffic to your site and then generate income off that. This is my first foray into making money on my own. And I worked at it â alone â for a long while. Until I discovered the Chiang Mai SEO community â and met Matt Diggity, Kyle Roof, Karl Kangur, Charles Floate and many more who already built what I wanted to build: a real business making serious money. âNetworkingâ when I was in a 9-5 felt scummy and largely useless. I kept my head down, got my work done, and collected my salary. But when building my own thing, networking became exciting. I saw how much value could be exchanged over a simple conversation. How I could help others and be helped - in ways that would completely transform my life - over a cup of coffee. Then I started to go to conferences â first Chiang Mai SEO and then the SEO Mastery Summit in Vietnam â and met more entrepreneurs like Sacha Fournier, Jamie I.F., James Oliver, Niels Zee, Jaume Ros, Nick Rowe, Jason Mills, Gael Breton and many more. All of them incredibly ambitious. They've done the work. They've built businesses that afford them the freedom to live and work anywhere. And they are continuing to hustle. But many of us have a big problem. We are all over the place. Even though we may be one conversation away from solving the next problem, we often lack the right networks to have that conversation. Many of us wanting to push our business to the next level are in silos, stuck behind computer screens. One relationship away from a completely changed life. I want to fix that. And I want to have fun doing it. Hence, the Ride of Passage: Mastermind. What is the Ride of Passage: Mastermind? The idea behind this ride is to mix adventure and business in order to create deeper bonds between entrepreneurs and generate more creative ideas. We will do this through a five day ride in the mountains of Northern Thailand on the digital nomadâs Swiss Army knife â the 125cc automatic scooter. Each day will be structured to provide a bit of adventure and a bit of entrepreneurial problem solving: often starting the day with a thoughtful question and a quiet ride or hike through the mountains, followed by an afternoon of mastermind-style problem solving around every participantâs business. Who is the Ride of Passage: Mastermind for? This Ride of Passage is for entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses and make close connections with others on a similar path. This isnât for the wantrapreneur, and it isnât a party or a coworking session either. This is a time to unplug, decompress, and go high-level with your business alongside a community of similarly adventurous and ambitious entrepreneurs. If that sounds good to you, check out the Mastermind here: https://www.rideofpassage.live/mastermind npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd You have some great road trip stories npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd On my Bitcoin Tour across the USA last year, one region stuck out to me in particular. Itâs a place which, honestly, I was not excited to return to. I grew up in this part of the world and I remember from a young age wanting to leave, to explore. But returning here... I began to see a new side. What this region lacks in mountains and New York minutes it more than makes up for in genuine, kind, and industrious people. It holds many untold histories and subcultures that are impossible to see from the highway. This is not âflyover countryâ. This is the American Heartland. Once I ran the first Ride of Passage in Thailand, I knew the American Midwest would be next. The heartland of the country holds hidden gems that fit with the vision of tours money canât buy. It is growing into a powerhouse for technology, regenerative farming, and sovereign living â especially through the actions of Bitcoiners. The Bitcoin communities here are tight-knit and interconnected. While others larp about circular economies on Twitter, they are building them one sale at a time. What is this Ride of Passage all about? The Ride of Passage: American Heartland Tour is designed to connect you to this vibrant Bitcoin community through a motorcycle adventure with Bitcoiners. Over 8 days together youâll visit Bitcoin meetups, regenerative ranches and cultural sites throughout the Midwest. You will sample some of the cleanest beef in the nation as you ride through commodity grain fields. You will visit farmstays creating a new tourism industry around regenerative practices. You will shake the hands of Bitcoiners with grand plans to build industry and wealth in the heartland. This ride wouldnât exist without the help of those on the ground - from @npub1f5pâŚwt3z to Lake Satoshi, Indy Bitcoin, Columbus Bitcoin, Beef Initiative (damn I gotta find all of you on Nostr) and so many more! It also wouldnât be happening without the legend Alan Jackson - who gives out more sats to taxi drivers and waitresses than most people will ever stack. Heâs also one of the most experienced motorcyclists I know, with over 50 years of touring across 5 continents. Alan stepped up and will be leading the Ride of Passage: American Heartland Tour. I canât wait for you to get to know him. Whoâs the Ride of Passage: American Heartland Tour for? This Ride of Passage is for anyone seeking deeper connections to the Bitcoin community, forged through unforgettable adventures on two wheels. Limited to just 10 riders who will be personally vetted by me. Still have questions? Feel free to ask me, or anyone who was on the first Ride of Passage - Texas Slim, Satoshi Symbol, Alan, Wes, Cory, and @npub1sr7âŚ2ggm Will you take sovereignty into your own hands by meeting those doing it every day? đ https://www.rideofpassage.live/american-heartland-tour npub1v5g4gkhazw4g7ncm9avpf8all4r3mgfw2fz0g9erzl6srv0vsz4sj9nsq4 captainsidd Riding my Harley across the USA to over 30 Bitcoin meetups, I noticed a unique camaraderie among Bitcoiners. What I saw overall saddened me: decaying small towns, frustrated people, misguided anger... From the ground, I saw my former home descending in to division. Except at Bitcoin meetups. Here I found diverse individuals civilly discussed critical topicsâfamily, health, business, philosophyâacross professions and political divides (imagine that...) Lawyers speaking with construction workers, ranchers with technologists, Democrats with Republicans⌠Bitcoin seemed to unite people under an umbrella of hope and pragmatism, in a time where these are rare in society. I see a deeply-held belief among Bitcoiners that individual responsibility and freedom lead to the best outcomes for society. When that belief is shared, many of the topics that usually drive anger and division lose their teeth. Bitcoin meetup organizers deserve all the credit for creating spaces where this unity grows. So after my tour ended, I had to figure out how to do my part⌠I wanted to bring Bitcoiners together, and do it in a way that underpinned the ideas of sovereignty and freedom. For me, travel brought sovereignty. I tasted a new sense of self-determination and purpose when I moved abroad to Chiang Mai, Thailand. I tasted a new sense of freedom when I started riding motorcycles. So what better way to bond Bitcoiners than over a motorcycle trip? Thus, the Ride of Passage was born. But the Ride of Passage is far more than a motorcycle trip. What is this Ride of Passage all about? This is a tour money canât buy. Not just because we venture to places no tourist goes, but because the entire experience is designed to bring about a change in each participant. I want you to return home with more than just photos. I want you to return home with a piece of you changed, for the better. More free, more resolute, more sovereign. The Ride of Passage is not a vacation. It is a challenge you take on knowing you will come out the other side a stronger and more open person. And, by the way, youâll experience this transformation through riding unforgettable mountain twisties, tasting incredible local food, and learning the untold histories hiding in the hills of Northern Thailand. Treated to the best hospitality available in the world. Just ask @npub1sr7âŚ2ggm who embarked on his dream of traveling the world after he took a Ride of Passage. Whoâs the Ride of Passage: Magical Thailand Tour for? This Ride of Passage is for anyone in search of sovereignty; mainly Bitcoiners. This is an adventure for those who value freedom, seek deeper connections, and are drawn to the unknown. Limited to just 8 riders who will be personally vetted by me. Still have questions?
