For me, GrapheneOS is not a privacy project. It does not meet my requirements for privacy. It does not protect me from tracking. As soon as I use the browser, I am tracked by everyone: my ISP, VPN, and DNS providers. I am tracked when I use #Mastodon; the operators of my instance can monitor me perfectly. For my use case and my understanding of #privacy, GrapheneOS is completely useless. It is technically incapable of protecting me from tracking. I do not know what definition of privacy #GrapheneOS uses, but it certainly does not match mine.

The "privacy" community (not the security community) has become so undemanding and demoralized that they believe #GrapheneOS offers genuine privacy.
They don't even believe in #privacy in the pre-Snowden sense anymore.

by not being tracked.
but #grapheneos can't prevent tracking. your isp, your vpn and dns provider track you. tiktok, X and mastodon track you. sandboxing doesn't prevent this.
grapheneos devs track you: grapheneos phones communicates with their servers by default, transmitting metadata.

@npub1kwa…e0nj are responsible for the massive confusion surrounding the concept of #privacy.
Your ISP, #VPN and DNS providers track you. The moment you use TikTok or X, you’re being tracked. Highly precise psychological profiles of you are being created. And no, sandboxing doesn't prevent that.
I can believe that #GrapheneOS is useful against Cellebrite and Pegasus.
But please, stop labeling it a "privacy" phone. This is simply misleading.

security. not privacy.
#grapheneos can't deliver privacy. at least not in the way, 99% of people interpret the term.
