Last Notes npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I was watching those clouds float by while taking my lunch break. Think it will be a stunning sunset this evening? npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 We were on our way home from playing guitar with @npub10jk…hspa and saw the beautiful sunset and I thought of you, hoping you were enjoying the view from your new deck. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 But at least it doesn't flood repeatedly every winter. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I have weed patches that resemble lawns if I've just mowed them. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I have a lot less grass than you, but I can mow the back lawn, the rose garden, and the front parking strip on less than one battery. You might consider the 348 V since it has power wheels. They also have some new models I don't know anything about. This technology is moving fast. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Love my Stihl mower. You're going to be so happy with the switch. We have the RMA348 which allows you to load 2 batteries. Bought the mower first, then the chain saw which I've been using every day to clear the creek, and have my eyes on the pole hedge trimmer. Definitely prefer battery powered. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Wish we had cardinals here. I've always liked them since choosing Indiana (home of the Indianapolis 500) as the state to do my 5th grade report on. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Mr. Darcy was outside during the later downpour and when I finally rescued him he severely chastised me for being so tardy. I was working in my office and was clueless it was raining so hard. He's forgiven me though, and is asleep on my lap as I write this. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Hit the bookmark icon to save them. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Damn! Maybe I should make an appointment with the optometrist. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I missed that it was a unicorn. Rainbow tail should have been a clue. Not sure how I missed a horn on the head. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Just got back from another beautiful, peaceful protest in Eureka. Thanks to the Magat driver of the coal burning 4x4 who thought he'd show us how manly he was by doing a burnout and filling the intersection with black smoke. Right in front of a Eureka Police car that he didn't notice. Hope he enjoys paying for that ticket. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I don't think cats care enough to laugh. Unless we're feeding them, or petting them in just the right manner at exactly the time they want it, we pretty much don't exist. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I saw this after posting my latest George photo. I guess yawning cats is the theme for the day. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 This is George doing what he does best, taking an afternoon nap out in the yard. This is one of his favored spots, a bench I made from a couple of the old pillars from Fernbridge. When I put them there in 2017, they were about 15 feet from the creek. They are now slowly sinking into the creek along with the rest of the bank. Who knows, thousands of years from now maybe some archeologist will dig them up from under 20 feet of mud and will spend his afternoon pondering how a part of Fernbridge ended so far upstream on a tributary. https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/115/907/299/107/362/773/original/d266e6e6960210ef.jpg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 One reason I gave up trying to donate was I wasn't able to fill a unit (roughly a pint in the U.S.) After filling half the bag, my blood coagulated. They couldn't even use the amount I had given so the whole thing was a waste. https://biologyinsights.com/how-many-ml-is-one-unit-of-blood-a-medical-standard/ npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Hal, open the pod bay doors npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Smart dog. I don't really care for them either, unless there's a big slab of pizza underneath. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 My sister is adamant about removing mushrooms her dog might eat and get poisoned by. Not being a dog owner I’m not sure if that’s something to really worry about or not, but might be worth looking into. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Happy anniversary you two. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Yeah, I see the daffodils poking up and that's always an encouraging sign. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I think the hat's ears kept it warm. Old age is weird. One day Raynaud's disease shows up in your life and then you understand why old people move to Florida. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 At a minimum, I'm looking forward to the day that protesting isn't freezing cold. I'm not sure how the people in Minneapolis do it. 45 minutes and my fingers were numb. And that was with mittens and lot's of extra layers. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Ants have been so bad for us the last year. They're everywhere. We also got the usual mice coming in when it gets cold outside. I think we got those taken care of. Still working on the rats that keep moving into the attic. Isn't rural life fun? Good luck with the doctors. From my EMT experience I know tooth infections can spread so continue taking this seriously which it sounds like your are. I'm looking forward to Thursday when we might see the sun again. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I like this one the best of what I've seen so far. I get that wanting to get outside. My plan for tomorrow was to take down the lights, but I don't have a rowboat. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Glad you are one of the friends I met this year. Hanging around people like you has been so important to get through all this. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 My sister would turn it into an agility prop. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 And now you have a culvert if you ever need it, or Summer has a cool cylindrical doghouse. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Here's the one with the dogs, by the Christmas tree. They're not doing their job though as there are deer right in the yard too. I liked the patterns the red and green lights made on the house. https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/115/778/354/617/495/924/original/2e793955ab8604e5.jpeg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I choose to celebrate Christmas as a festival of lights, celebrating the pagan solstice holiday it was stolen from. We just did our annual Christmas Eve Ferndale light tour avoiding a few areas because they're still under water, but there were plenty of nicely decorated homes to cheer us up. One of our favorites had doggies in the front yard. I'll post a photo of it a bit later tonight. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Very nice to see the sun today. Glad you took a moment to enjoy it. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Hope it at least matches the color of the rest of your kitchen. Right during the Covid shutdown in March of 2020, our refrigerator decided to quit. Selection in the store at that time was non-existent. So we now have a stainless steel refrigerator and a black stove and black dishwasher. Can't imagine you without a working stove if it includes your oven. Glad your back up and running. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Glad it all went well. Today is going to be a great day to just sit around and do nothing, so give yourself a day off and cuddle with Summer and your friend. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 One of those days I wouldn't mind being up on a hill. I think most of our flooding is water coming up through all the gopher/mole/mouse holes in that year. That's something Summer could help with. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Ah, I see you took a picture of my front yard this morning. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 It was the 1984 earthquake. The '89 was even worse at 6.9. I was in a large concrete tilt up building for the '84 one and could watch as the floor rippled from one end to the other. Very weird to watch. You guys clean up nicely by the way. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Lori actually got to meet Jessica McClintock as part of her fashion design degree from FIDM. She was meeting in Jessica's high-rise office in S.F. when a 6.2 earthquake hit. A meeting she'll never forget for several reasons. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 If I was going to build a modest house, it would likely take longer than 9 months to decide what I want, have plans drawn, get the permits and financing before I could ever raze the existing building on the lot. Yet Trump just took an excavator and ripped the side off of the most historic and secure residence in the U.S. with apparently no oversight whatsoever. #NoKings npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 A quick search found that it was horchata that we found so delicious, with strawberries added to the mix. You may already be familiar with it but I'll include the recipe here in case others want to try it. Ingredients 6 cups unsweetened rice milk ½ cup sugar 1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 vanilla bean or 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract Throw that into a blender along with the optional strawberries and pour over ice. I wouldn't have thought to mix strawberries and cinnamon, but it ends up they go pretty well together. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Crescent City is the last place you want to be during a tsunami warning. Due to the shape of their harbor they always get hammered. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 One of the nice things about working in the garden on a beautiful sunny Sunday in #Ferndale is that the town sets of their fire whistle promptly at noon to remind you it's time to go inside for ice cream. #humboldt #gardening npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I use the Seek app. It works for plants and animals, and best of all it is free. It's been invaluable for identifying all of the insects I see in our yard, and now I also know the names of most of the weeds growing here too. But it comes in really useful when you're out and about and you see a plant you really like that you've never seen before and have no idea what it is. I've made many trips to Miller Farms having identified the plant I want to own. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 So pretend you're looking for a plumber and you happen to drive by a plumber's truck in your neighborhood. They have their web site listed on the side of their truck. Would you rather have remember mycityplumber.com or 135.181.044.050? I can remember a 7 digit phone number. Plus, no more shared hosting. Along with the problems others have mentioned. There's a reason domain names were invented in the first place. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Business has been slow in the old barbershop. Mr. Darcy taking a nap. #caturday https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/114/722/013/058/255/200/original/5cbef9d4b77abf55.png npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Still waiting for my favorite deep purple one to show up and trying to keep the slugs at bay so I actually get to enjoy them. Here's the first three to bloom. #beardedIris #BloomScroll https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/114/497/586/803/998/341/original/2ad0c2b27128d8c3.jpg https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/114/497/586/804/515/202/original/a27e674727ada311.jpg https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/114/497/586/802/301/411/original/c69ee71a088b1482.jpg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Mine is a Sears and they don't list the carb for it on their website. I've been trying to decide whether to fix it or just go buy a battery powered mower. I'm getting tired of trying to keep all the small engines running. Chain saw, pole saw, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, lawn mower, chipper/shredder, rototiller, generator. Some days I really miss our tiny yard in San Jose I mowed with a manual push mower. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Impressive. She can bake up a storm and fix lawn mowers too! npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Who did you have do the tune up on the lawnmower? Mine needs some carb work done. Used to have time to do stuff like this myself, but I'm running behind. We know who to blame. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 We were forced into an $20K upgrade for my wife's cochlear implants when Med-El discontinued making their proprietary rechargeable batteries the old ones used. Even with insurance, we were left with $7K out of pocket. All because they quit making the batteries after 10 years and like all rechargeable batteries, they eventually have to be replaced. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I'm embarrased because I thought the post was from @npub15w9…2huq who is local. I'll be content admiring your flowers from a distance. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Ooh, I’d love to get some seeds from you for that one. Gorgeous. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 As the rain continues on and on, we've been battling ants all over the house. Kitchen, bathrooms, sunroom, bedroom they're everywhere. But they just escalated the war to an unacceptable level. They had the nerve to invade our gumball machine that is filled with M&M's. How dare they! Is nothing sacred? npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Waltz's worse fumble was not locking down the chat so only the admin had the ability to add new members. According to the screen shot in Jeffrey's latest article, he had the ability to add new members, and anyone he added would have had the ability as well. We're damn lucky this didn't spiral out of control. Could have been the first set of war plans to go viral. #signalgate npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I was going to try to read the Book of Mormon one time, and I got as far as the introduction before I realized this was some real bat shit crazy writing and I gave up. It's amazing to me that you can walk around with the world's knowledge in your pocket right now and still believe what Joseph Smith wrote. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 That's the downside of following @npub15w9…2huq Thank god they haven't invented Scentovision for the web yet. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Oh man, our yard is so soggy. I had a pair of electricians here Monday, and I felt so sorry for them because it was pouring rain the whole time, it's a lake under the house, and it was freezing cold to boot. I usually do my own electrical but I was glad to not be wading around under the house for this one. If you ever need electrical, call Greenbelt. They were outstanding. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Still waiting for that asshhole to send all this water south like he promised. There’s going to be major cleanup required in the yard again. #floods #Ferndale npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I get so many weeds every year due to the constant flooding from the creek in the backyard. Doesn't matter if we put bark down over landscape cloth, they still come right back. I have a feeling that's how I'll be spending my retirement. It could be a full time job just keeping the horsetails under control. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Elon Musk thinks he's worth a $56B pay package. Tesla has 140,000 employees in the U.S. That's $400K per employee he's stealing. It also works out to $35K per Tesla automobile made in the U.S. this year. So if you buy Tesla's cheapest model, 75% of your monthly payment is going directly to Elon, while the other 25% goes towards paying the factory workers, buying parts and supplies, and keeping the factory running. #EatTheRich npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Read an article that mentioned there are around 750 billionaires in the U.S. That got me thinking and I did some math. Using a list from Forbes, if we passed a law that that made it illegal to be a multi-billionaire, 600 people would have to forfeit their vulgar excess to a collective total of 5.8 trillion dollars. And still, each and everyone of them would have more money than they could spend. A billionaire can spend $100K a day just from interest at 4%. With $5.8B we could distribute $8.9M to every homeless person in America. So yeah, taxing the rich could solve our homeless problem. #EatTheRich npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 When I renovated one of our bathrooms I did a total gut and found a couple of dead animals in the walls. If you have an old house with balloon framing they can get into the walls. Sometimes you just have to wait it out and hope it was something small. Occasionally one of our cats lose an outdoor toy in the house and a couple of times the rodents found very clever places to hide before finally succumbing to their injuries. One time I found a dead mouse in one of my fire boots as I was rushing to a call. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Watching the willows outside my window and wondering how they can be that flexible. I would be less worried if they had dropped their leaves already. I hope Summer can be as contented inside as our cats are today. Even my wife’s cat who normally ignores me is sleeping on my chest. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Thanks. Didn't even know Stihl had battery powered models. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Such a good helper and so multitalented. Box squisher, debri hauler, lap warmer, etc. I've been thinking about a battery powered chainsaw to cut fallen trees in our creek.
