BitKey’s social recovery feature offers a nice solution for backing up your private keys in a Multisig wallet.
If you’re not a Bitkey customer, you could recreate a similar setup using something like PGP. Simply encrypt the private keys locally using a friend’s public key, and upload it to your preferred cloud storage. That way, if you ever lose access to your private keys locally (Think natural disaster) you could decrypt the version you stored in the cloud using their private keys.
I’d also recommend not having all your private keys encrypted by the same trusted contact. Has anyone tried this?

Thank you for your time and dedication to maintaining our community. It’s in all of our best interests to ensure that our neighborhood remains financially healthy, allowing us to manage necessary maintenance while keeping HOA fees manageable for all homeowners.
Our current financial situation, with depleted reserve funds due to historical spending, deferred maintenance, and rising operating costs, is concerning. To ensure we build a stronger financial foundation and avoid depleting reserves so quickly in the future, I would like to present an alternative solution: allocating a portion of our reserve funds to Bitcoin. While this may sound unconventional, I ask that you approach the idea with an open mind.
The Problem
Like many communities, businesses, and individuals, we face a common financial challenge: how do we preserve our purchasing power in a world where inflation and rising costs erode the value of our reserves? Traditional currencies, such as the US dollar, lose purchasing power over time due to inflation and government policies that increase the money supply at a rate of at least 7% per year. By the time we need to access these reserve funds for large expenses in 5 years, the reserve fund would have lost over 30% of its purchasing power when held in fiat currency.
Since 1971, when the US went off the gold standard, the dollar has been backed by the government’s promise rather than a tangible asset. As a result, the dollar’s supply has expanded significantly, leading to inflation, which affects our community’s ability to cover costs effectively.
The Case for Bitcoin
Bitcoin offers an alternative that has proven to be a valuable store of value for individuals, companies, and even governments. Unlike the US dollar or other fiat currencies, Bitcoin has a fixed supply of 21 million Bitcoin, meaning its value cannot be inflated by central banks or governments. This makes it an attractive option for preserving long-term purchasing power.
While Bitcoin can be volatile in the short term, its long-term appreciation and decentralized nature have made it a trusted asset for many. Its resilience is demonstrated by the growing number of institutions and corporate treasuries adopting Bitcoin as part of their reserve strategy including Tesla ($TSLA), Microstrategy ($MSTR), Mass Mutual Insurance, Semler Scientific ($SMLR), and Square ($SQ) as well as countries like El Salvador to name a few.
My Proposal
I propose that the board consider allocating at least 10% of our reserve funds to Bitcoin. Additionally, we should contribute 10% of annual HOA dues to gradually increase our Bitcoin reserves, helping to secure the financial future of our community.
To further demonstrate my commitment to this initiative, I am willing to pay five years of my HOA dues upfront, with the understanding that the entire amount will be used to purchase Bitcoin for our reserve.

Question @npub1v5k…8rd9 - When you hypothetically lend say $100k to a business / developer and require 10% be allocated to Bitcoin for default protection, who gets the Bitcoin (at the appreciated value) at the end of the term loan assuming there’s no default? The lender, or the borrower? I could see a situation where the Bitcoin is almost 30-50% of the value of the loan in a few years. Appreciate your insights here.

People say Bitcoin is too confusing for people to understand so they won’t invest in it.
Well… Here is a packet a wealth management firm sent me to read on investments they are recommending such as private equity, private credit, real estate fund, and hedge funds all with huge fees. The stack is over 6” tall in small 9 point font or less.
How many people blindly put millions into these funds having no idea what they are investing in? Just wait until they find out how easy it is to understand Bitcoin.

It’s still seen as “magic internet money” that you can’t see or touch with massive volatility to the majority of people unfortunately. Real Estate is still the best way to store wealth in their opinions because it’s tangible and has utility value while also throwing off cash. Some are starting think deeply about what it is they are after when buying these rental properties, and realize that Bitcoin is a better option. Explaining the dematerialization of things like Blockbuster, music CDs, Gold, Books, and now property seems to resonate with a few. Slow process, but we’re getting there.

While that may be true, I bet if we asked the average person to solve a complex math problem without a calculator, most would have a hard time solving that by hand. They end up depending on the calculator and assume that it gives them the right answer. I’m wondering if we eventually do the same when we ask AGI questions?

What are people using to keep your data and communications private. Here are some suggestions.
1.) Cloud storage: encrypt any data stored on the cloud with PGP. Anyone using NextCloud with E2EE?
2.) Email: Move away from public services like GMail to something like Proton. Encrypt using PGP when possible.
3.) Mobile phones: Enable Apple Advanced Data Protection for E2EE at a minimum. This is not enabled by default. https://support.apple.com/en-us/102651
4.) Money: Encrypt your money using Bitcoin
5.) Messaging: If using Apple Advanced Data Protection, iMessage could be ok. Otherwise, using SimpleX or Signal for messaging.
6.) Web Browsing: Route all traffic over a VPN tunnel. Nord or Proton could be useful here. Combine this with using TOR when possible.
7.) Laptop: Encrypt your entire hard drive using something like FireVault on MacBooks.
None of these are perfect, but they should help keep ISPs, Cloud Providers or Cell Providers from watching your data.

Does anyone use proton mail? Is it worth a switch from GMail? I like how all emails are encrypted as soon as they are received with your public key; however, they are still accessible before they hit your inbox by Proton so there is still some level of trust there unless you use end-to-end encryption which doesn’t seem feasible for every single message you send. Your money in the bank isn’t your money. I always knew this, but today I really experienced this. I went to the local branch for my bank in person to make 3 wire payments for a large amount. I provided my ID, and authenticated into the account with a text to my phone. After asking me where the money came from, what it was for and where it was going, the bank refused to send my wires, even though one of the transfers was to an account in my name at another bank! The reason was simply “Because I don’t know you and it’s a large wire transfer”.
Do I need to take the branch manager out to dinner to get to know them before I’m allowed to move my own money? If you verify my ID, see me in person, and authenticate to my device, what else do you need!!
It’s always all in the name of safety and security though.

My Umbrel node stopped syncing 5 days ago. I notice that “connections” shows 0 peers. I also notice some weird things like not being able to login to Tailscale from the Umbrel node. Clicking on the links doesn’t do anything.

My total caloric intake consists of about 40-50% from protein which is about 180-190grams. I also only have a 6-8 hour feeding window. Only 30 of those grams come from a protein shake. Lunch has about 60 grams of protein and dinner has about 85.
If I’m crunched for time and can’t make a good meal, I’ll have 2 x 30 gram shakes. I feel it’s always best to get protein from natural, nutrient dense foods as often as I can.

The food we are told to eat as Americans is poison for our bodies. The numbers of changing that tell the full story.
After #[1] inspired me to get my shit together and get healthier on April 7th 2023, I started the following:
1.) Adopted a paleo/carnivore-style diet (50% Protein, 45% fat, 5% carbs as a % of total calories) Mainly red meat, chicken, pork, and fish.
2.) Total body weight lifting routine every single day (Upper/lower split every other day) for 30-60 min tops. 2 x 20 min walks a day. Averaging about 7k steps a day, trying to get this to 10k).
3.) Started intermittent fasting. Last meal of the day 5pm. First meal of the day 11am-12pm. Always started my workout after fasting 16 hours min. Trying to remain in Ketosis and resting periodically with PerfectKeto strips.
Results:
1.) Weight down 15+lbs from 187 to 171 in less than 2 months.
2.) Dropped over 5% body fat.
3.) Resting heart rate consistently below 60. (mid 50s now from high 60s)
4.) ALT levels dropped by over 15%.
Take the time to care for yourself. It can be easy to get caught up with work and think you have no time.

BlueWallet and ColdCard seem to go together like Peanut butter and jelly, Kool-Aid and water, or even Ham and Cheese. It’s super simple to manage Multisig from your mobile device while having the security of cold storage. Has anyone else put together a better setup than these two tools, especially for a Multisig for a family-office or small business? Let me know!

I’ve hired professional videographers in the past to create client testimonials for my last business. The cost varied between $2,500-$5k/interview. It could prob be done with a lot less from someone who is just getting started. I would think a short documentary could get the message across with 10-15 interviews (a few who are homeless, a few real estate investors, 1 macro pro, an organization that helps homeless people (I’m thinking someone like CodeOfVets.com) and obviously some Bitcoin names.
Ideally someone who is charismatic, well-spoken and educated in the space like #[3] or #[4] would be the main interviewer.
I’d pony up a good amount of sats for this project to raise awareness if there is community interest.

Wow. What a great take and I completely agree. I was literally just driving my wife to her doctor appointment in downtown Boston and there are homeless people all around the surrounding area. I was thinking to myself how we got here, and how broken the money system is. I was even thinking of paying a team to create a documentary on this exact issue to raise awareness.

When someone says “I’m too busy” it just means that what they are asked to do is not a priority to them. There are 168 hours in a week.
- 8 hours a day sleeping = 112 hours / week.
- 8 hours a day working = 56 hours per week.
- 1 hour a day doing housework (cooking, cleaning etc) = 49 hours per week
- 2 hours per day for sports (if you have kids) 35 hours per week.
Make it a priority. When you track where you are spending your time on useless activities, you can make time for things that are important.
One exercise I do with my kids is enable the screen time feature on their iPhone and console gaming systems. I show them objectively how much time they are spending on these activities, and ask them if they spent event 15 min of that time practicing their sport (hockey / baseball / training) how much they think they would improve at their favorite activity.
