If I was to be honest, I think the Australian Government only wants us focused on the story of the Iranian football players.
It is a nice story, it makes it seem like we are compassionate, and we are not talking about Israel, the US, the question of if the war is illegal or not, and the question of if we are involved or not.

hahaha, I don't think I've ever had that kind of experience.
However, when I go interstate, when someone finds out I am from Canberra, they immediately assume I am on $200K and sit on my ass all day. I remember having someone tell me this to my face and at the time I was still working in retail.

Note, at the moment we have shifted to weekly meetings. This may change again in the future, but at this stage we are trying to organise and become sustainable as a community organisation so we can best have an impact on Canberra's future.
I am eager to have more people involved, especially from diverse backgrounds, and younger people too.
I am also eager to get any feedback regarding LSC. So, if you think there is something I should know, please drop me a line.

Was planning on updating this yesterday, but just coming back to this now. I went twice yesterday, and I wasn't disappointed. I had tried both the sakura matcha and the matcha float. Matcha is prepared after you order, so when they are busy, there can be a bit of a wait, however it also means that the matcha here is probably one of the best in Canberra.

I mean, same as the ACT, but our officers are on loan basically from the AFP under the branding of ACT Policing.
And I strongly say the ACT isn't fantastic either. We had a recent incident of racial profiling on a bus during a major operation in Canberra's south (Woden). As you can imagine, our local indigenous community were not happy about it. There was a big gathering regarding it outside the legislative assembly over it.
I would note change in government wasn't helpful for NT.

honesty, and I know there is a whole debate about police investigating police, but the NT should really always get another state to investigate their deaths in custody and allegations of mistreatment. I don't think it can be disputed that the NT Police are way past showing they can't be trusted. It would have to be one of the least trusted and respected police organisations in Australia. And it is not like there is another good state, but none of them are as bad as the NT.

Mark Parton has posted on Facebook asking people to join the party. He says, rather than complaining, be part of the solution. While it is a CTA specifically for the Canberra Liberals, what Mark says has some truth. If you want something different, if you want something better for your community, you have to take action and get involved. It may be joining a party, it could be joining a community group, but it has to be something that's more than having an opinion online.

This sounds incredibly naive. If we just ejected millions of Australian kids from Instagram, they will all just go to an alternative. They are already looking at this. This is when whack-a-mole comes into play. Those alternatives will grow, and they will have to react.

It is probably clear, I have been to many protests, and it is not because I have nothing better to do. It is because I believed in the cause.
Sometimes it was SSM (obviosly very important to me), sometimes it was for indigenious Australians, somtimes it was for Gaza. But I went because of the cause.
I am time poor, and tbh, I would rather no attend protests. It takes up a lot of my time I would rather spend on other things.

2025-10-10 23:53:09 GMT

- reply

I would say the cartoonist is greatly misguided, if this is how he truely views protestors, and I would invite him to actually attend a protest.

2025-10-10 23:50:13 GMT

- reply

I also take issue with how this cartoon discounts protestors as nothing more than someone who needs something to do.
The people who turn up to protests, such as those depicted in the cartoon via the posters, are doing so for the cause. Palestine is heavily represented in the cartoon, and I think protestors are turning up because of the people being killed by the IDF, and the destruction of Gaza. Not because they had nothing better to do.

2025-10-10 23:46:42 GMT

- reply

Personally, this comes across to me as the cartoonist feeling superior, and viewing protestors as less than, dirty, stupid and so on.
I personally find this cartoon quite controversial. I would have concern that this is the kind of cartoon that subscribers are finding in their copy of The Australian.
If gives the impression that this is what protestors are really like.
I know they are not, and I know even Australian journalist have attended protests.

2025-10-10 23:43:20 GMT

- reply

For me, it seems like the cartoonist views protestors as less than. That protestors are living in difty conditions, and that the only focus in life is being a protestor, and that they are living poor life styles. Reflected by the dirt/grime reflefcted in the room, quality of furniture, the bong with the beer bottle sitting on what appears to be a milk crate.
The cartoonist gives the impression, that protestors are "dirty poor people".

2025-10-10 23:40:08 GMT

I wanted to share this cartoon by a Newscorp cartoonist. Not because I agree with what it is portraying, but because I think it is a real example of how some people view protestors in Australia (and obviously how this cartoonist views them).
There are a couple of things that really stand out to me. I am interested to hear what others think of it.
There are some clear boomer-esque themes, such as the coloured hair and nose ring, along with the old bong.

agreed. A lot of the time I was hearing parents talk about safety as a reason. So, I guess every opportunity we get at increasing that sense of safety could be increasing the likelihood of kids walking to school.

2025-06-15 23:29:45 GMT

The fact is, we can improve the safety for our kids just by simply moving the limit by 10 on streets. Our kids deserve to feel safe around our schools, and they deserve the opportunity to walk to school.

Had a great chat with Laura and the team at Richardson Shops today about the possibilities for the area. So good to see such a turn out today. Also, great that the property owner come out to speak to locals about the issue.
Looking forward to seeing Laura bringing this issue up in the assembly in the next few weeks.

I am heading to Richardson Shops today to chat with MLA Laura Nuttall about the situation there and what we might be able to do to breath in new life to my childhood local shops.

Just so I have this right, the ABC has cancelled Q+A, and have nothing planned to replace it??

Andrew Wallace, member for Fisher, suggests on #abcafternoonbriefing that the LAPD officer didn't target the Nine News reporter.
Did he see the same video everyone else saw?

I hate that. The sitting on bags thing is also something I do. I will just plunk my ass down. Have gotten close to sitting on people's feet here in Canberra. Some people have very poor transit etiquette.

The NCCC said to the ABC in relation to the missing middle housing plan that "we are still a car-based society whether we like it or not."
This is only the case because of the lack of drive and investment in alternative modes. If we really want to change how we move, we have to give Canberrans a reason why. So far, only S1 of LR has done that.

First day out. It was a little stressful for me, I felt a bit scared. But I did want to get out of the apartment. Bought slip on shoes, had some lunch and some bubble tea.

Yea, daily fasting from midnight. But they came in pretty early today, so I got some breakfast this morning.
Really hoping for tomorrow.

Today I am an example of why it is important that attention is brought to our walking environments. I'm at TCH tonight, waiting for xray of my left arm. Happened at work. Two paths not quite meeting level.

Did you end up contacting him? I only got automated responses from Alicia's and Katy's office so far. Pocock's office had replied to me asking for my details.

I am writing to senators, members and ministers regarding this, and I ask you to join with me.
It is clear that Australians want more action on this issue.

yep, totally agree with this. Fun fact, the Transit app asks riders if they can see out clearly. So I assume people are collecting data on this.
