How The People shifted California left(er) for much of the last century by trying to elect Upton Sinclair governor in 1934:
https://depts.washington.edu/epic34/
"Sinclair had lost but the story was not over. His [socialist] EPIC organization with its network of grassroots clubs had captured the Democratic party and would now control the party's statewide machinery and many of the local party committees."
Its always bottom up led, not top down, & nearly always by inspiring creative thinking re: solutions to our problems.
A good movement in other words synthesizes art & moral conviction to do whats tangibly right (just, fair, visualizably better).

Unrelated to the above, cops are at a crime scene and are tracking for evidence or whatever (after roughing up a non english speaker who was just passing through. Not the funny part obv, 🤦‍♂️ Oklahoma ) and they come to a fenced yard and started climbing over.
Someone from the patio turned on the light and says "hey [coppers], if yall need access just come to the gate instead of fucking up my fence."
I chortled

Churchill was a proper piece of shit tbh - toward women, India among others- but we rightly remember his focus on German Fascism and its threat, particularly in juxtaposition to Neville Chamberlain declaring "peace in our time" returning from a trip to give the Sudetenland to Hitler.
Durbin, Garland, Chris Wray (who could be replaced at any moment by Biden) are as of 5/23/2024 the Chamberlains of our time.

The Saskatoon freezing deaths involved Indigenous Canadians in and immediately outside Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in the 1990s and early 2000s, and are suspected of being linked to actions by the members of the Saskatoon Police Service. The police officers would arrest Indigenous people, who were usually male, for alleged drunkenness and/or disorderly behaviour, sometimes without cause.[2] The officers would then drive them to the outskirts of the city at night in the winter, and abandon them, leaving them stranded in sub-zero temperatures.[3]
The practice is known as taking Indigenous people for "starlight tours"[4] and dates back to at least 1976.[5] As of 2021, despite convictions for related offences, no police officer has been convicted specifically for having caused freezing deaths.

We've reached a critical junction as a failing species where it's apparent to me that I would've had more utility becoming, in purely fantastical, sci-fi terms, a living bomb that targeted the oligarchy, than I will ever come close to having in my role as a psychiatrist.
And while that's a fucked up thought, it's also an indictment on the failures of government to do what it's supposed to do, and a clear repudiation of capitalism altogether.
If one person could erase the 32 most powerful living people who perpetuate this ecocidal system we're enchained by, even then we wouldn't stand a chance because of the violence inherent in the system & structures of society and our economies that we, every day, validate when we should instead be resisting and seeking liberation from. Sabotaging, even.
This is a suicide train and Earth is running out of tracks.

This post is less than 4 days old yet Biden is doubling down on his LIES about the protests.

https://zeroes.ca/@hannu_ikonen/112373764669277711
A new report found that 99% of pro-Palestine protests at US colleges have been peaceful, despite remarks from Biden characterizing such demonstrations as violent.
A brief from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a NGO specializing in crisis mapping, said that the vast majority of protests have remained “vastly peaceful”.
From the report:
Student protests on university campuses around the US are the latest sign of public discontent with the Israel-Gaza conflict.
While some notable violent clashes have recently taken place, such as on the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) campus, where demonstrators and counter-demonstrators fought at a student encampment overnight on 30 April, the overwhelming majority — 99% — have remained peaceful.3

Hey I don't mean to raise any alarms but the normalization of fascism in every day america seems to be hitting breakneck speed.
I don't have time to share today's anecdotes as to why, but these students must succeed and we must support them and collectively push back on this hateful, genocidal bullshit.

"They’re pretty much the same as we were. The basic impetus of the students, I think it’s not that complicated. It’s that they see a moral tragedy and moral crime going on, and they want to try to do something to stop it,” Rudd told the Daily Beast.
