If you had end-of-high school exams (e.g. A levels or baccalauréat), do you still occasionally dream that you have to take them?

And I said "get good", not just do it, because yes, that matters. This is one of the most important things you can do. Treat it like work, and like purpose. Learn. Research. If you're lost, there's thousands of books and different methods. Get good at it. So we can trust you to do it. So that you NOTICE what needs to be done, and you NOTICE when it is done by others, and you do it independently and don't just assist. 💓

My main point is. This is work that is pushed on women, whether or not we are good at it. Think of all the time and mental energy that you could return to daughters, sisters, mothers, wives, girlfriends, etc, by taking on that work over the course of a lifetime. Think of how much that adds up.

Hot take: if you consider yourself a male feminist, the very first thing you should do, before advocacy, before anything, is get good at cooking and cleaning.

Simple quick rant not inviting comments (except if you're also a woman in tech)
Honestly the latent disrespect of being a black woman in tech sometimes grates.
The only reasons I'm still around are:
- good money
- the energy I get from other black people/women specifically
- too hardheaded to let people less talented than me push me out
But yeah if you're wondering why there's so few black women senior+ engs, it's not a matter of interest or talent. Look inward

Hey you know how sometimes you get signs from life that are so on-the-nose that they feel like a joke?
A few years ago I was engaged and having doubts, and then the engagement ring (great quality ring) literally split down the middle.

We found Pixie this cute little hat at a shop and when she put it on, the employees asked to take a picture to put it in their company newsletter

Omg Zohran won?? I remember when he was coming up in his v first election, I was in his district, heard about him because an acquaintance was his friend and convinced me to vote for him. I'm so happy

Introvert hack: at conferences, make a goal to talk to X number of people. Whenever I do that, I very easily surpass it lol, and always meet at least 1 person I really connect with. It's wild

I know I mentioned this before: sometimes I have very realistic / boring dreams, and it really messes me up bc sometimes I'll go up to weeks without realizing they were a dream
Like I'll dream that my accountant emailed me requesting a document, or that Sephora is opening a branch in the center, or - the most common and fucked up one - that I bought groceries and got that one item I was missing

PSA: The demonym for Burkina Faso is Burkinabè
Burkina Faso is a name made up in 1984 by our socialist, anti-imperialist, anti-colonial president Thomas Sankara. It joins the 2 biggest languages, Mòoré and Dioula, to mean Land of Honest/Upright People.
There is only 1 demonym, and that is burkinabè. Bè means child in Fulani, another major language. Child of the Land of Honest people.
Burkinese, burkinabese, or any other demonym is a colonial attempt to dilute our political history.

now saying that politicians shouldn't pardon their own children so they don't face the consequences of the justice system is "whining"? I know you like Biden but please stand up for your principles just a little bit

Man 2: "Man 1 made a good point"

when I hear "a fraction of", e.g. "you can do this in a fraction of the time", the overly literal part of me often thinks "9/10 is a fraction"

a bathtub yes, but a handcrafted copper soaking tub is an indulgence.. New York is expensive, but 9 million dollars is a little above average 😅 (found the figure here) and I don't think it's a reasonable part of the job. Saying this having grown up in an international school, and seeing a lot of diplomat kids live in absurdly lavish homes. This is a public service job

yeah, and I thought that was his point, to illustrate it's absurd for the government to pay for a luxury apartment with a lavish bathtub as it's irrelevant to the job

also I basically share no political opinions with these people, so I have no incentive to defend this guy, except that I also think governments shouldn't spend public funds on personal luxuries. But maybe I'm missing cultural context or something

from the previous 2 paragraphs?
...during a debate over the government's controversial purchase of a luxury apartment for its consul general in New York. Trudeau didn't name Genuis.
While listing off features of the condo, including "a handcrafted copper soaking tub," Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre asked Trudeau if he visited Consul General Tom Clark at the new residence on his recent trip to the U.S.
Maybe I'm dumb but I honestly think it could have been about the money

NGL I think I see his side, if he was arguing against the government purchase of a luxury apartment with a copper bathtub, he could have said this to show the bathtub is totally unnecessary

After Ghana and Sierra Leone, Benin is adopting a law that can grant Beninese citizenship to all afrodescendants!! ✊🏽 https://ortb.bj/infos-une/le-benin-va-adopter-une-loi-pour-accorder-sa-nationalite-aux-afro-descendants/

Also: this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but my sister is looking for a job in Dubai or remote!
In October she adopted our 14-year-old niece, who lost both her parents (my cousin and her ex) 💔. My sister has owned a small food supply business for the last 5 years now, but now being a single mom, she's looking for a more stable and secure income.
She has a background in business and has worked in corporate and back-office for Chanel, LVMH and Cartier to name a few.
Plz do share any leads! 🙏🏽

Hi I just realized I never made an #introduction post on this server!
About me: I’m basically a woman, Burkinabè and French, and live in Amsterdam with my dog Pixie. I have lots of interests and hobbies, esp hobbies where I get to make, learn and tinker, like drawing and home improvements. I often pick things up and drop them (figuratively and literally), but writing is pretty consistent for me — you can check my longer-form blog!
Excited to get to know you more and get to know more of you!
