Jb55, Define a follower by amount of money ( zap) will weed out the bot accounts. To prevent fake and manipulation by zapping around and passing around zaps: I propose we do this: 1) only count followers on highly respected and trusted Nostr clients( by Nostr community) ,
2) each zap amount to from account A to B to establish a following must be higher than 5000 sats ( example amount) and the Nostr client charges a zap fee ( to be a follower ) each time to prevent fake zapping chain and circle ( say 5% or fixed amount) and 3) optional ( maybe not necessary), the followed person should have a verified website linked to npub. This will help establish true trust. Nostr can do this to compete with X, YouTube, etc.

We can define a follower by money ( zaps) . Money shows true interest. If a follower follows a person and zaps that person ( for example zap amount bigger than equal 5000 sats) . We can expand this concept of levels of “followness” with different amount of zaps ( say 10000 sats level 1, etc.) , and can also do this with respect to time too.

Sounds good. Is there a way to guarantee of payment after seeding is completed ( say after 1 minute)? How can the contract be respected( payment must be issue after seeding is delivered)? Who is the judge here if one side breaks the contact

But for how long? For example, How long will 100 people seed your large video files for , say, 5 months if you asked them for help? Would YouTube grow to be a giant as it is now if uploaders were not paid by YouTube ( by displaying ads). The world exists based on work. Everything costs money. You are the person paying the seeds ( people will do the work of storing and seeding the files). If your computer or your internet access are blocked or some ( but not all) seeds are blocked by ( censorship actors - you already know who) , hopefully, the rest of the seeds still are able to seed , so other can leech to view/ watch the file/ video on nostr clients. You pay the seeds the amount to pitch to them, if they agree to do the work.

Sounds intriguing! Imagine this as a new way for millions of nostr users to get paid ( seeding video, doc files). Millions of computers storing and seeding files and be paid, this sounds a bit like bitcoin network. Exciting! But don’t know how this will turn out to be.

But how can you verify someone’s honest work ( seeding)? For example, “seed this video file for 48 hours to get 10000 sats”, but after 40 hours, you find out you can’t view/ watch/ leech the video anymore. How can you get the sats back? Do We need a built-in method to pay proportional work ( 40 / 48 hours)? This should be automatic, can’t be manual. Or pay byte seed by Mega bytes? And how to pay multiple seeders?

Files or video files must be stored on computers, it costs a lot for storage. Nostr clients cannot store millions of videos files because they don’t have tens of billions of dollars like X , YouTube or Facebook. So, hundreds of nostr users ( hopefully) each can store several videos on their computer at home or phones can choose to seed and get paid (zaps ) by viewers ( nostr users watch videos - leeches), this incentivize them to keep videos online for a long time. BitTorrent live might be needed here. This is decentralized video hosting, storing and broadcasting, therefore resists censorship. Nostr community now can be independent from X, YouTube, etc.

Yay! 👏 i image notes with embed video ( live leeched stream from seeds), and payment options: preview ( free? ), continue to watch ( pay by zap some amount), a mechanism to distribute zaps from seeds, just some ideas. I am a amateur IT guy, this is beyond me to implement.

I think, video is critical for a platform, with nostr being a protocol, without video censorship resistant, it is only text censorship resistant, plus No nostr clients can host terabytes of videos like X, Facebook, YouTube, nostr clients and users must have a way to make money and being truly censorship resistant. Jb55, can you create a way to incentivize BitTorrent video seeders , like zaps of some forms? So they can keep videos available for a long time. Or a mechanism to broadcast and get paid by the zappers. I don’t know, is it technically possible.
