I’d like to open a coffee shop next to the Ticketmaster offices, and if any of the bosses come in to buy a drink I’d charge them for the coffee, plus insurance in case they drop it, plus a transaction fee, plus a handling fee for me to hand their coffee to them over the counter. The coffee that should cost £3.75 will set them back £17.89. Seems reasonable, no?

Ah, I had a soft Geordie accent when I moved down south and people constantly thought I was Irish. I’m probably 80% RP now. My home accent might come back if I’m angry/in wine. I do have to out it back on more when I talk to my mam, cos she’s hard of hearing so I sort of have to put on a Geordie accent so she can understand me better.

0900 – start ParkRun
09 something – realise I’ve just broken my 5k PB.
I got stuck at the start fiddling about with my watch – no, I’m not doing a weightlifting session! – so got stuck behind the pack, which meant I couldn’t go off fast, which meant I was able to go faster later. Really pleased with that today.

I’m so glad you said that. I’m kinda suspicious by nature, and seeing lots of mutual aid posts, and giving them the skunk eye often makes me feel a bit bad. But unless I ‘know’ someone quite well I can’t put my hand in my pocket. FWIW Substack (I know, I know but I follow a couple of accounts there) is FULL of grifters. It’s sickening.

Ha ha. I didn’t want to wade in, but… there were the usual questions about Chabrol , Godard, “I love you” etc etc. Then I asked “What were you doing in Arnaud Fleurent-Didier’s music video?!” which had come out a couple of weeks earlier.
She was really surprised and laughed: “Wow, I didn’t expect that question!”

With the major caveat that I’m not a woman you could check out Vulpine. They came up in the UK cycling wave, went under, got taken over a couple of times, but did prioritise womenswear, and sponsored a pro women’s team. You can often tell if it’s a Bangalore call centre cos of the delay, and the sound quality. I try to string them out as long as I can so they can’t phone defenceless people. An elderly relative got scammed this year. There’s a great YouTube channel called Scammer Payback in which a US guy helps to get people’s money back, and infiltrates the call centres.

I have discovered a new way of dealing with phone scammers. Concerned that they may be recording my voice to try to scam automated services, I have taken to wailing/moaning, unintelligibly, in the style of Pingu’s dad having a stroke.
For example:
Scammer: Hello sir, I am calling from [your mobile phone provider]
Me, faintly: Wojdh ghboeghbhhh!
Scammer: Uh, can you speak up a bit please?
Me, louder: WOJDH GHBOEHBHHH!
I recommend it.

Yeah. I find listening to In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg sends me off when I can't sleep. But BBC Sounds runs episodes into each other so I start leaning about Martin Luther, then wake up and they're talking about whales, or Emily Bronte, or the history of papryus or something. So I wake up befuddled and confused.
