That's lovely!

Before you write in, I understand that this is two different inks and not a fair test, but this is such a perfect example of LAMY’s overlapping nib size tolerance that I have to post it anyway. #FountainPens

I took the website issues as a sign to sit this year out.

My Phantom also is okay. It was among the last sent out, so maybe they made some tweaks, or maybe I got lucky.

My smallest pen is probably the Meister by Point Slim Line. The largest is my Ranga Splendour.

When I was in a role with more business travel, I used to take my Platinum PTL-5000A with me on planes empty, pop one of the free (usually blue-black) cartridges that come with their pens in it on location, dispose of it and rinse before I flew home.

This is a minor one but I miss Italix -- I liked their black enamel pens and being able to get a wider range of grinds on a $60 pen was nice.

Yamamoto Paper and I disagree on what it means for a paper to be “:)” for #FountainPens, it turns out.

I never quite manage to align my inks to the season. Reds and olives and browns right now. #FountainPens

It really shits me that Daiso stopped carrying these little clips for making custom elastic bands because they are so perfect for bundling letters.

Shows how much I was paying attention, I didn't even notice there were two different blues -- but I never buy doubles and I got the one I would have preferred so no big deal.

Looks like I got the one color you passed on.

Interestingly enough, these special editions are $0.50 cheaper than the soft yellow model I bought on JetPens in march of 2015 -- you can't say that about many pen models in 2024.

I usually post. Only a handful of fairly large pens feel better unposted to me, most notable the TWSBI Vac700. My hands are just large enough that some pens really need the extra length and weight at the back.
But of course some pens don't post or don't post well, and I don't generally consider it a dealbreaker unless they're very short or very slim.

for people with my brain who automatically try to read backwards text, sorry about my terrible handwriting, that letter signs off by recommending the album “Expert in a Dying Field” by the Beths.

I have considered that pen on many occasions, but at the end of the day there’s just nothing wrong with the Balance that a gold nib would fix and I don’t generally collect duplicates.

The pen I have inked the most is my Platinum Balance with a fine nib -- but I rotate my pens a lot so "the most" turns out to be 10 times in 7 years.

It's worth noting also that this isn't just the church down the street that they happen to go to on Sunday mornings -- they described themselves as part of the "startup team" for a new church, and the anti-LGBTQ+ statements come from the official podcast of the parent church. It makes it much harder to believe that this is an aberrant view of one member of the church that they don't also hold, especially since they refuse to comment on it.

Letters are the main driver of my #fountainpen usage -- they determine how many pens I keep inked, which inks I use, what paper I buy, even to some extent what kinds of nibs I favor.
I love almost everything about letter writing: the time to think, to organize those thoughts, to express them thoughtfully; The freedom to express complex and serious ideas without having to worry about an immediate response. The surprise of finding a letter in the mail. It's the best of my hobbies.

The post has since been deleted, so excuse a paraphrase, but overnight the FPR Insta posted a screenshot from Fox news of Joe Biden's Supreme Court reform proposals, with the caption "The 1st branch of the government wants to cancel the 3rd. Who's the dictator now, America?" (Wording as close as I can remember it.)
Currently deleted with no follow up. Was trending big on the subreddit for an hour before moderators removed it.

2024-07-30 19:46:33 GMT

Looks like the reddit fountainpen mods are having a hard time deciding whether or not to allow the FPR instagram debacle post to stay up.
I have 17 of their pens. I won't be buying any future models.
Everyone is allowed their political opinions, but it's very hard to read "who's the dictator, America?" as anything *other* than a call to engage with the owner's politics, and my engagement is going to be severing the customer relationship.

All of my explorations into flex, italic, stub pens have led me back to regular round tips. I also resort to the ultrasonic cleaner a lot less often.

For letters: Tomoe River 52gsm OR JetPens very similar View Corona
Note taking and letter outlines: Maruman Mnemosyne dot or graph, OR, currently, Fabriano EcoQua A5 pads (gluebound)
Also plenty of little no-name Daiso notepads for small memos.
