People will be needed to perform investigative, creative, mental skill oriented tasks like troubleshooting the machines, like creating one-of-a-kind goods like hand-made items where human error and variation is a feature and increases an item's value. One observation I heard recently is that art, music, actors, and the like are values not for their perfection, but for its human authenticity. This is not something that can be emulated by an AI until it actually becomes the same as a human, including our limited and closely guarded ability to reproduce.

The fees are not being passed through from the LSP as I originally thought. I'm seeing examples of 1.75%. I'm moving the fee back up to cover the coat. If you feel youre being overcharged, contact me and I can double check for you and reimburse you if it turns out to be off base. The STPI cashu mint is once again functional! The fees are raised until I get a notion of the new LSP's fees. It turns out the problem is someone was doing high volume transactions and exceeded my prior LSP's account volume limits. This new LSP also has limits, but charges fees when its gone over. The lightning bond scheme based on the htlc smart contract is very effective to preserve trust in the network. Is there a mechanism by which a digital contract could be used to back cashu tokens with a posted "honesty bond" by the mint? Then any token holder can provide their token as "proof of promise to pay" and if the mint fails proof of reserves, the bond can be used to pay the token onchain or over lightning? Maybe even the bond could be in the form of ecash stored at a "more trusted" mint?

My LSP is malfunctioning and I am presently working with them to resolve a problem. My server is not able to generate lightning invoices. This may take hours or days. I do not know of wallet of satoshi supports Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) but others do. Alby, strike, mutiny and breez are a few. You can recieve zaps into your Wallet Of Satoshi (WOS) by placing the lnaddress assigned to you when you installed the app ([email protected]) into your nostr profile, but zapping without NWC means you need to copy the lightning invoice from amethyst into WOS. NWC connects amethyst directly to a lightning wallet and allows zapping to be a single-click operation. If you have trouble zapping, it could be due to two problems: Either the person youre attempting to zap doesen't have their lnaddress configured properly in their nostr profile or your WOS isn't completing the lightning payment into the recipient's wallet. This could be due to legal restrictions, or it may be a simple case of insufficient liquidity on the lightning network between the WOS servers and the recipient's wallet (this problem may be temporary).

Here are some details to expect out of the STPI cashu mint:
* LN mint deposits have no fees
* Cashu ecash transfers within the mint cost nothing
* Total LN deposits are limited to around 500,000 sats per week (globally)
* LN withdraws have a 1% fee, this is due to my LSP
* You may encounter an additional 2 sat LN withdraw fee. This is not from my mint and is probably because you're using a nostr client to convert it to your LN address.

At this time I must charge a 1% fee for outgoing lightning transactions to cover the fees from the LSP. The LSP also imposes a maximum deposit amount, which means I'm only able to hold 500,000 sats of cashu tokens at any instant.
I will be replacing it eventually with my own node, but for now this gets me restored basic functionality. Thanks for understanding.

I think 3.2 and 3.3 is trying to implement a system similar to an auditable election ballot. Anyone that holds a token can verify the mint is recording his token and then add up the total balance of published tokens, and anyonr that holds an unaccounted-for token can provide proof of lack of reserve. This could work if channel balances on the lightning node are pubically verifiable, which they are not.

What you can functionally do with a lightning wallet and lnbits lnurlp and lnurlw extensions can also be done with cashu.
The difference is that a cashu token transfer doesen't happen over a lightning channel, doesen't require any server-side "account" for the end-user, yet allows a cashu token holder to send and recieve sats on the mint's LN node over the lightning network, and the server has no knowledge of who holds a claim on any token. The more users of a mint, the more anonymonity of the users, so it somewhat also provides a "mixing" function.
When you create a token to send to someone, its very similar to sending them single-use yet fungible paper money. When you send it to them, you are giving them essentially a password to redeem tokens, though the password contains the tokens themselves. The recioient redeems the tokens from the mint, and the mint gives them new tokens in return but the mint doesent know who gave the tokens to you, it only knows you have some tokens of the amount you redeemed, and it doesen't know that they were your's when they are redeemed by whoever you give it to.
Another feature of an ecash token is it should never expire (unlike an LN invoice), so you can keep it in your cashu wallet, or on a piece of paper, as long as you like.
The mechanics of ecash is quite different than lightning, and you will come to understand this the more you use it.

I want to explain this to reduce confusion, not increase it, so here it goes.
The cashu tokens you have can still be moved, traded, divided & combined on the STPI mint as long as the tokens stay on the mint. Because I'm closing down the lightning node, you won't be able to redeem them for sats via lightning... for now. However, I can reimburse you for them.
Here's another aspect; If you leave your sats on the mint, and I set up a new lightning node, open new channels, and connect it to the cashu mint, then you WILL be able to redeem your cashu tokens as if nothing happened. Just so you understand, I'm only shutting down the LND node, not lnbits. When I finally disconnect LND, i'll change over to the 'null node' in lnbits. When I connect a new lightning node, i'll connect lnbits to that new node, and you can redeem your tokens at that time.
I wanted to give everyone a chance to redeem their tokens before I disconnect the lightning node. At this time, it appears the node is essentially unroutable. As a mitigation, if you send the tokens to me (via PM) I can be assured that you no longer control them. This way I can reimburse you with a different wallet like on getalby, strike, zeus or cashapp.
If there are people you sent sats to and they don't know who I am or even how cashu works, there will be a time where they can send them to other people but can't cash them in for sats over lightning. Eventually they will be able to redeem them.
Be assured, this isn't a rugpull. And in case you're wondering, at this time there is only about 30ksats remaining on it.

Notice to any users of the STPI cashu mint: I'm shutting it down for now.
There are too many remote-close and force-close on my lightning node, there is also erratic behavior like strange cashu/ln transactions and pending payments that I can't explain. Lightning is too unpredictable and impossible to debug, its not ready for prime-time in my opinion. I've been running this node for two years and the technology is not improving. This high fee environment is making it too costly to run a routing node, and the ln-tx fees don't even put a dent in the channel open and close fees.
Please remove your sats from the mint.
I will try to keep it open long enough for people to remove their sats (there isn't much).
