If you see Turning Point UK setting up one of their shitty "prove me wrong" stalls in your city, don't debate them. Don't engage. Don't give them oxygen.
At best they'll post about the high turnout as a way of "proving" people agree with them or at worse they’ll post you debating them with some hot takedown so you can then be posted across their channels and doxxed.
Just don't. No-one wins except them in either scenario.

@nprofile…hgrn I think druidry for me often felt too much about the inner self and how you as an individual interacted with the world as opposed to being a tiny part of a vast interconnected web of nature. That might have been driven by the groups I mixed with but yeah, the rigidity you speak of I felt elsewhere. I also became very disenfranchised by The Big Group in my country not being very inclusive in their teaching materials despite claiming to be so and too much focus on Jungian psychology and some frankly dangerous reflection exercises.
For me, and I'm very much an animist in this regard, all of nature is sacred. I might have some regular trees that I greet but I do that as they are friends and so no different to greeting someone on the street. I talk to plants, rocks and creatures in the same way as I would talk to you.

#FediCoven 2026 Q4: How do you identify? (Witch, druid, pagan, shaman, medium, 'all of the above'?)
This has shifted massively over the years but if pushed, I'd say I'm a nature-based witch. I tend to focus on traditional witchcraft (whatever that means, I know what it means but you may interpret it differently) that orientates around land-based work and aligning with the nature and seasons of the environment around me. While I do read pagan books, I find much of what is discussed is mostly disconnected from my own practice, so I enjoy reading books about nature, bird watching, rock identification and other practically useful stuff.
Don't mix your rocks with water unless you absolutely know what's going to happen people! Things will go boom!
Historically, I've been a druid and I still hold onto some of the core tenets that I enjoyed about that path, and as mentioned in a different post, I use pagan as a term when specificity isn't required.

#FediCoven 2026 Q3 - Are you out of the broom closet?
As a queer person, seeing the concept of a “closet” being adopted by other groups sometimes makes me twitchy but as I have engaged with different communities, I realise that while the concept of being closetted can be an appropriation of the very real fear and danger that queer folks have to face, a lot of pagan (and other faith groups that aren't the mainstream) folks do face different and interconnecting prejudice in their communities.
It still makes me raise an eyebrow when used by some, something I have seen a lot of recently in certain privileged spaces (this isn't a subtoot!)
I tend not to talk about my practice that much because it's quite a personal thing. I think the only times I do lean into it is if I need to ask for time off work at times that might not align with the dominant calendar cycle (e.g. asking for Yule off versus caring very much about Christmas, which I still am forced to take off even though I don't celebrate it).
I wear a pentagram and if asked, I'll disclose as much or as little as I wish to depending on the situation. “Queer” is an umbrella term for me much like “pagan” is so I'll use them as needed because some people don't get to have the detail or I'm just not in the mood (or feel safe) to share. If I'm talking in a safer space or with a likeminded individual then I might share some of the flavour of who I am or what I practice.

#FediCoven 2026 Q2: What role does self-care play in your practice? Any tips?
I mean in theory it should but it doesn't as much as it could if that makes sense. I suppose it depends on what we mean by self-care. Do we mean it as in doing small things like having a regular footbath session (perfectly valid) or are we talking about something deeper such as the specific framing of self-care that Audre Lorde talks about. This is the context of self-care in a society that does not care for us being a radical act. For me and my practice, I tend to lean more towards the radical act side of self-care and much of that is driven by the various intersectionalities that I inhabit in addition to following a path that is already “other” in a society dominated by Christian norms.
I use my practice to not only take those moments to stop, check on my burnout, spend time with challenging issues, and also to try and put more light into a world that so desperately needs it. This is self-care for me and self-care towards my various communities.
So yep, do a face mask. Have some nice scented magical items. But also, if you're not already, think more deeply about self-care in the context of your practice as well as how you engage with the wider world.

#FediCoven 2026 Q1 - For those who have a form of divination in their practice, does this indicate to you that the universe is predestined/deterministic?

So I've always been of the view that most forms of divination (at least the most common ones such as tarot etc.) say more about you as the diviner as opposed to channelling any Big Universe Energy stuff.
Cards, runes, bones...whatever you use, you are also using your brain to interpret and extrapolate what you're seeing happen in front of you so you're always going to be putting your own brain filter onto everything. But that's ok and it's using your own inner magic to make sense of the world and its patterns.
Using divination tools to meditate on something you're seeking answers to or guidance on is a healthy thing. I start to get a bit concerned when someone implies that the cards are telling them something as if they are sentient or being controlled by some other force. While I'll never say that can't happen, I would also caution against putting intention onto an unseen force when you could perhaps dig a bit more into why your mind went in that direction and if indeed it is a misdirect or avoidance tactic.
It might not be but it often is and catching yourself is a good way to remain in balance with everything around and within you.
Thems my thoughts anyway.

Just reflecting on the absolute car crash that is my profession's response to Generative AI.
I'm a librarian. It is literally our jobs to safeguard information and to help others access it through a critical and engaged lens.
The fact that so much of what I see in my professional circles seems to be fixated on "how do we help our users adopt AI effectively?" instead of "how do we help our users maintain their critical faculties in this world of slop and misinformation?"

Really pleased to see the @nprofile…gxk9 just aren't selling any seed or peanuts until November which is heartening.
If you need a quick version: no feeding until November. Water still useful but has to be changed daily and cleaned weekly. Tables and flat surfaces are an absolute hard no.

So my very estranged mother ambushed me recently with a letter in a birthday card, wanting to "get to know me" again after years of not talking.
I was tempted to tell her to gtfo but @nprofile…hhyj gave me good advice around coming out fully to her so that she doesn't hold any power over me anymore. So I did.
Cue me writing a very heartfelt letter back and then waiting. I sent flowers at one point because she passed a significant age milestone which still freaks me out. I have an elderly estranged parent now.
She thanked me for the flowers but didn't mention the letter. I asked. She hadn't checked her mail for 2 weeks. More silence. I push again. She said she got the letter but for didn't tell me. Another message to say she's reflecting.
Another two weeks pass and I've had enough so I essentially tell her to either do me the respect of a reply or to tell me if she can't.
She accuses me of turning our conversation into a negotiation. How could it be anything but? She then misgenders me and tells me to discuss this calmly. I am very calm. I stop the conversation.
I then hop onto a random social media platform where the algorithm serves me up someone's videos about emptying their loved ones home and that feels like the universe absolutely mocking me.
Life with a problematic parent really does suck energy and time.
