As excited as I was to get Gears of War E-Day when it came out, it looks like my PC won’t run it. It requires a CPU that’s AVX compatible, which mine is not.
Funnily enough, my PC can run Gears 5 at 60+ fps steadily at 1080p and medium-high detail.
I will either pass on the game entirely or just get it to play on my Xbox only.

@nprofile…nvwk I solved the problem! I picked the PC up and it noticed it was BURNING HOT on the bottom. I unplugged it and opened the case. There I noticed two completely loose screws and a ton of dust. I took out the screws entirely since they weren’t really needed and took some compressed air to the inside. A good amount of dust flew out as a result. Turns out the computer was throttling itself because of the temperature.

My Beelink SER5 mini PC has been a fantastic little computer for 2 years. For some reason the computer is now awfully slow. Opening up the browser involves 40 seconds of waiting and games that used to run at 60 fps now run at 10.
I’ve reformatted the computer and reinstalled the OS. I then manually installed all updates and the latest AMD drivers. Issue persists. I’m currently running a memory diagnostics. We’ll see what happens.
Apparently these computers have a 3 year warranty, which is good

Mastodon version 4.6 by default shows new/ logged out users the theme of the site that matches your system: light or dark.
This is perfectly fine for most Mastodon servers, but light mode made the Retro Gaiden site virtually unreadable with dark text against a dark background.
I’ve adjusted the custom CSS of the site so that light and dark modes look identical.
This change explains why a couple of RG users couldn’t see the text after the 4.6 update. :mastodon: :rg5:

I’ve kept a list of all the TVs I’ve had over the last several years as my main gaming display and all their issues:
Samsung HP-S4253 - flickering blue pixels
Sharp LC-40E67UN - heavy distortion
Hitachi 42HDS69 - input lag
Sony Wega KDF-E50A10 - projection bulbs have inconsistent lifespan
Panasonic TC-P42C2 - vertical line (currently in use)
Sylvania LC370SS8 - input lag
In all my years of gaming on various displays, my experience is that Samsung ALWAYS sucks. Panasonic always rules.

@nprofile…j6ac the TV has a 60Hz refresh rate, which is honestly fine. It’s the way the TV processes the image that causes the lag. It’s not even the worst input lag I’ve experienced, and most casual players would likely not even notice.

The Sylvania LCD TV I picked up a couple of days ago may not be as great as I thought. The image quality is fine but it has ~100ms response time and it makes playing certain games just feel… off. Check out this slow motion video I recorded.

After over two years, I’ve added a couple of relays to Retro Gaiden. This should help with discovery of content but also use a bit more server storage. I’ll be keeping a close eye on things and see if it’s worth the tradeoff! :ds_isaac:

I always thought the Jaguar console itself looked cool but the controller was one of the worst designs in gaming history. :atari:

I know a lot of people are complaining about #Plex because they increased the price of their lifetime pass.
I’ve been using Plex for the past 14+ years and will continue to do so since every feature I use it for is free anyway :guilded_shrug:
The premium features mean nothing to me. Plex is still great as-is.

@nprofile…lssg the “unlisted” option would be the equivalent to the “quiet public” status on the web interface. This makes your post visible to your followers, on your profile page and to anyone who sees it reposted. It just doesn’t show up in the local timeline.
