uh so the registration numbers for #FOSSY are way higher than the room bookings... the university housing is waaaay more convenient and cheaper than downtown Vancouver and the block expires in a few days. It's nice accommodations and there are cheaper and fancier options. I'm a last minute person, but I'm telling you to book your room now!

I managed to take my kid to the elementary chess nationals for the weekend, without installing or using proprietary software apps! I managed without apps for car rides, hotel, train, food delivery or the chess tournament itself (and no GPS)! Of course I used proprietary javascript for some bookings. It took extra leg work (mostly while my kid was playing) but I didn't even have to ask anyone else to help me with any of these things. Whew!! This shouldn't be such an accomplishment, but it is!

The high profile #GPL lawsuits @nprofile…6lcl brings are last resort - they are only the most visible part of our enforcement efforts.
We work hard to respond the violation reports we receive, and work with companies to get them into compliance.
We launched Use the Source to do more of our work in a way that people can see, and participate too, working towards using the source code we receive to do cool things with our own devices :)

@nprofile…ynd9 I know! we opened all of the windows we were able to open, and it was way too loud to keep the doors open. I recommend moving to sit near the open windows, which are closer to the back.

@nprofile…tq3v happy holidays! One floss.social post won't have space to discuss all the inaccuracies in your post.
This lawsuit isn't primarily about Linux, which is just 1 of 26 copyleft projects on the TVs; there's both GPLv2 & LGPLv2.1 binaries; Vizio's sources remain non-compliant on various issues. I think maybe you didn't read what we've actually said?
Lots of Linux developers care about this and have different views, so maybe take some time to talk to them or me about it? Could be fun!

Really enjoyed @nprofile…tnhu 's presentation today here in Japan. I agree with much of the assessment of the problems facing software freedom on the mobile space. I'm excited for #postmarketOS to move beyond being ready just for an average hacker and towards the average user.

The summary adjudication hearing in the Vizio case is in about 10 minutes, and the judge has issued her tentative decision in favor of @nprofile…xn8p saying that Vizio has a duty to provide SFC with complete corresponding source code to its TV! (And rejecting 2 other arguments on procedural grounds). Arguments will happen today to see if the judge makes her tentative ruling final!

In one hour, there will be a hearing in the VIzio law suit!
It's about a motion VIzio made, asking the court to rule (without any discussion at trial) that there is no installation right in #gplv2. The "tentative" ruling published this morning denies VIzio's request! The parties will discuss further at the hearing to see if the tentative becomes final.

Zoom now wants you to focus on Section 10 of their ToS which they've changed today to say they won't use your calls and other data to train their AI models. Instead, focus on Section 15. Zoom (like most Big Tech ToSs) can change those terms at any time.
They laughably say you should "regularly check" their legal pages for those notices and if you don't but keep using the services you've agreed to the changes. These services are unethically deployed technology at their most fundamental level.
