Other than core planes and ropes, mercury delay lines, fluidics, crt memory, drums, tape loops, and relay latches, what are other weird early data storage techniques?

Do you maintain an open source project and need some server hardware for your self-hosted CI or build system? I have two Dell R630 1U dual socket 8-SFF machines and four dual socket Supermicro nodes that fit together in a 24 SFF 2U enclosure. Free to a good home or datacenter, but local pickup in Amsterdam only.

Mary Ann Brown Patten was the wife of Joshua Adams Patten, captain of the merchant clipper ship Neptune's Car. In 1856 the ship was bound for San Francisco around Cape Horn from New York when her husband collapsed from fatigue. She took command for 56 days, faced down a mutiny, and successfully learned celestial navigation in order to reach San Francisco. At the time of docking, she was 19 years old and eight months pregnant with her only child. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Ann_Brown_Patten

@nprofile…syqt from personal experience, there's nothing special about UEFI for x86; it can be ignored if you want to but you will need to link in the Intel FSP for memory and SoC init. SMM can be reduced, but not done away with since some functions like SPI flash writes require all cores to be in SMM. The ME can be turned off via the official HAP bit or with tools that corrupt its flash image like me_cleaner, but it does implement the root of trust for BootGuard. And BMCs, well.. ugh.

Some #WHY2025 presenters used AI generated images on their slides, which disrespects the audience, devalues the rest of the talk, and might not be compatible with the CC-BY licensing of the video recording. When are hacker camps and congresses going to have an explicit ban on slop?

@nprofile…f3e5 is there a way for announcement-only groups to hide the member list? this would prevent one compromised device from revealing the entire social graph (and would also avoid spamming the recipients with group membership updates).
it seems that only admins should need to know all the identities and public keys.
