It's just hard to compete with the network effects of established players like Twitter.
The product needs to be easily 5 or 10x better in the eyes of a normie and I dunno how this could ever be that. Maybe if this whole thing can also just import X posts into it or something that might bootstrap things.
Or perhaps just the various other services and products that use nostr also gaining traction might help...
But yeah I dunno, atm it is just too niche and it will remain niche imo due to the barriers and challenge of network effects.

Unfortunately, the inertia required to get people in any meaningful sense, onto a new platform, is insurmountable.
Need to either have a completely new, significant, and easily seen and observed point of difference that's appealing, or it needs to somehow vampire attack and sneakily absorb or integrate with an existing network somehow. Just my 2c.
Its an improvement on Twitter, but it just won't ever replace it due to network effects unless it can somehow auto pull and absorb all of its content or something.

My opinion that for a new platform or protocol to really take off, it needs to either:

It doesn't matter who is in power, or how competent they are. Humans need an enemy, and if the people couldn't galvanize against an external party, they will turn inward within their own population and find the enemy there.

Well said, but imo to scale this thing it needs to either:
A) offer something new, unique and cool in eyes of a normie
B) or 10x improvement in things that aren't new for a social network.
I'm not sure censorship resistant and leveraging btc is enough on its own.
Maybe if many other integrations and applications can be facilitated through nostr, and they find traction, then network effects could really take off.
