Correct me if I'm wrong but this seems to add overhead for no reason versus just sending the event IDs of what you have. Why add the overhead of the tree unless you want proper inclusion proofs (which would require merkelizing all events you have as a relay).

A bit filter would be much better. The only issue is there are false positives. So occasionally you would send a filter to a relay and it would think you already have some event that you dont. You can tune the false positive rate though.

Would be interesting tosewe relay operators discussing/brainstorming ideas on how to solve the index scalability issues that are going to crop up as userbase increases. Particularly how more and less efficient index schemes will affect clients fetching data across different relays.
