Maybe it’s because of the generation I come from but 9/11 isn’t especially fascinating to me in general outside of the memes. I feel like the conspiracies surrounding it are like classic movies: it’s been done so many times since that when you go to the original it feels stale.

But maybe I misunderstood you and you’re saying that german shepherds are similarly intimidating, which would be fair enough.

Depends, I don’t think most people are doing things they wouldn’t want associated with their name very often. However, when you look at instances where they are it gets way more common. Oh yeah, and cash is very private in comparison to either Bitcoin or cards/checks. Your payments in the current system aren’t necessarily required to be through banks but everyone can see every transaction you’ve made on the blockchain. Bitcoiners should be more aggressive about solving this problem.

2023-03-08 14:01:34 GMT

One thing I think nostr does better than Fedi is financial incentives. Although, I do wonder about how relays will fair if server hosts and ISPs start cracking down on the content that passes through. It feels like it’s only slightly less vulnerable to that sort of thing than Fedi, and that’s only because accounts aren’t linked to the relays themselves. I also wonder how those financial incentives will affect the moderation of the relays, like maybe they’ll become even more hardcore echo chambers since the owner stands to lose money if they don’t purge unpopular views. Someone could easily just select a couple relays they know only have posts from people who affirm. Maybe I’m overthinking it, though.

2023-03-08 13:23:41 GMT

So far, the fediverse has better variety in the userbase. Maybe that will change with time, but I feel like there’s more of a burden on users to make the experience good here, so I feel that it might never grow enough to get to a better spot.
