#Meta #Facebook and #Yandex are always looking for new ways to spy on you and track you. #LocalMess is the latest in a long line of abusive methods to gather your private data. Having their mobile app installed gives them super powers. Uninstall it. If you must use these services, do not use their app, keep it in the browser, or even better, use a wrapper app, like

Here is a nice technical write up:

#Xiaomi is shipping a built-in blocklist to block the installation of apps by Application ID, no matter how they are installed, e.g. also blocks when using Unknown Sources. That list includes a number of #VPN providers #Lantern #FreeBrowser

Inspecting com.miui.packageinstaller.apk shows: no_block, white, on_shelf, off_shelf, risk, illegal_distribution, high_risk, competitive_product, forbidden, risk_anti_spoofing, risk_vpn, virus_engine

As a supporter of #Signal, it is important to point out a key detail: Signal's own code is #OpenSource, but Signal uses multiple #proprietary libraries from #Google. Those cannot be scrutinized since the source code is not open. We believe Signal should offer an actual open source version, and are ready to help. This exists already in the fork https://fosstodon.org/@MollyIM Also, apps like #Element #Threema #Wire are #FOSS, and have #ReproducibleBuilds on @npub1mtr…trt0 #FDroid

We have just added #Firefox Klar to our #FDroid repository of apps. Firefox Klar is a browser with a unique approach to privacy: it is designed around the idea that the user does not want to keep any personal info around. It makes it really easy to just wipe everything and start from zero. In the past, Firefox Klar was included in @npub1mtr…trt0 but it has become too hard to maintain the free fork that strips out the Google proprietary bits. Hopefully #Mozilla will make a #free build possible again.
