I am in daily contact with two different friends going through horrific things who need support.

I almost approved an image in a project for work today: three girls, diverse ethnicities / skin tone / hair types, eye contact, smiling, subtext serves the project. They're even wearing masks.
Then I realized they are all wearing surgical masks. Ill fitting. Loose.
Running the image would mean tacitly endorsing bad mask practices.
But I was in "work mode", not "pandemic mode," and I almost didn't catch it.
Taking public health seriously means taking public communications seriously.

I have the incredible privilege of living in isolation where my covid exposure risk is zero. I'm currently on track to avoid covid-related cognitive damage.
I assume that the demand for people who can perform cognitively complex tasks is going to rapidly outstrip the supply at the rate we're going.

Season Four of Blown Away (from Canada, on Netflix) is the best season yet. Great challenges, great talent, and I love the new host. It hits the sweet spot for me of being engaging and interesting without being hard on my adrenal glands. Strong recommend.

On International Women's Day, it occurs to me that I am working on an all-women team with a female boss, and I am not penalized for excellence, I receive constant appreciation and validation, no one talks over me or takes credit for my work, I don't need to make myself smaller to protect someone's feelings, and if I notice a problem and I call it out, I am heard and not punished for it.
It is truly glorious and I want this for ALL OF US.*
*All genders, all identities, not just women.

Because particularly when I mention I live in solo isolation in the pandemic, people are quick to demand my full medical history, pandemic survival strategy and accompanying citations, to satisfy their curiosity and/or to reply by telling me I am wrong, all with increasing frequency, and in aggregate it is unfathomably gaslighting and exhausting.
