Starting next week ERPU co-founder and board member @npub10ra…24jw is going for a new world record: the fastest time on the longest uninterrupted rail journey in Europe! 6281.6km of train travel from Kemijärvi, Finland to Lagos, Portugal.

A request from our tech team: We are working on expanding our IT infrastructure to allow our volunteers to collaborate more effectively. Hardware prices have gone up by about 50% over the last few months, so we are wondering if anyone has a dedicated Hetzner server in the fifty euro range they don’t need any more and would be willing to transfer to us - we could then benefit from whatever price they are currently paying. Thank you!

It's summer, which means a lot of you are probably taking a train somewhere for vacation. Where did you go? Was it a short trip to the seaside? A cross-border journey to see the eclipse? (Or, did you end up driving or flying because the train didn't work out?)

We just submitted our official feedback to the EU on the proposed Passenger Package:

Our three key points are:
1. We support the “sharing obligation”
2. We oppose the “single platform” and “single transaction” requirement. Rights should be based on respecting minimum connection times.
3. We need clarity on how rights will be realised at the point of disruption. The guiding principle should be the passenger’s experience.

Big news: We’re official!
This past weekend we completed the paperwork to officially become a non-profit organisation. The European Rail Passengers Union is now established as an ASBL in Belgium. This is a big step forward for our legitimacy, sustainability, and transparency as an organisation.

It's a step in the right direction, but unfortunately this doesn't deliver for passengers. Rights should not be contingent on how and where tickets are purchased. Under your proposal:
☛ Not all journeys will be available with rights.
☛ Journeys that can be made with rights will come with extra hassle and a price premium.
☛ Passengers will lose flexibility and options.

This week a new Copenhagen–Berlin–Prague service began running. We love seeing new cross-border trains! There’s so much unmet demand. The EU was right to designate this one of their 10 pilot routes in 2022, but Europe needs more. Now more than ever is the time to go from good intentions to action.
