Spam is such a big problem on the internet that most of us webmasters have had to shut down forums and close comments on our blogs.
It's why I've been so excited for lightning used as a spam filter, even though I haven't seen an implementation yet outside of stacker news.
Spam is wasting hundreds of manhours with moderators and resources.
If I choose to filter ordinals and other spam transactions from my mining template, I have every right to do it. You can just go to another miner and send your transaction, they'll be happy to accept the sats.
Permissionless does not mean anarchy. You have every right to spam the protocol, I have every right to filter it because you're wasting my time and resources.
I won't run the ord disrespector only because the guys promoting it are deranged spooks and because it's untested code.
But if the next bitcoin core version filters out a huge chunk of spam, I'll run it.

I believe at some point even unspendable utxos will be able to be offered as collateral.
It's the same with gold.
Let's say you have a small golden nugget. Getting it verified might cost half of its price. But if you show it to someone, thus proving that you own it, they might consider the risk acceptable and lend you the money.
Bitcoin can be verified with a simple wallet signature and even if it can't move on-chain due to high fees, it's still there.
I think microlending services will happily take them. Perhaps even with accepting the seed words themselves in case of liquidation.
That doesn't mean that you shouldn't consolidate your utxos when the fees are low. I'm just saying it will become so valuable that people will find a way to use even the smallest bit.

Blue wallet has a very neat feature.
When you give someone an address so they can pay you, you can just copy the address itself, go to new wallet, give it a name, import, paste the address.
That will create a watch-only "wallet" on which you can see all the transactions and check to see if the people paid you at a glance.
And all that makes it so much easier to check if the payments came through and despair.

Controversial opinion:
Prepare to lose your bitcoin.
I believe that almost everybody will eventually lose their entire stack.
Hodlers will get rekt. FIRE and early retirement, travel the world guys will get rekt. Some bug in a popular wallet, some seed generation algorithm will be reverse engineered like milk sad, or any other random way that will compromise your seed words and make you lose your sats.
Prepare for that.
Have alternative storing options, preferably on metal plate with no multisig nonsense or anything else. Just drop 1 million sats on a wallet that you've generated with randomness and leave them there.
Have cashflow to recover. Ideally from online businesses.
Have a network of bitcoiners that will be willing to help you get hired again, to trade with you, to support you.
I think we'll only start seeing more and more of this as price goes up and incentives to trick people are increasing.
The point is to put yourself in a position to get some of it back immediately, not to hoard sats.

Running a node is the only way to have a vote in the bitcoin system. For example, my node will never run drivechains, even if they manage to do get through.
The right to vote in the bitcoin protocol is analogous to being a citizen in Ancient Athens. Not all were citizens, and (unfairly) all were male, contributing members of the Athenian society. There were slaves and people born elsewhere that didn't have citizen rights. And anyone going against the city-state was ostracized, but that's not possible in bitcoin.
The analogy still stands, because the Athenian citizen had to stay informed on current events, matters of the state and had to vote on various issues. That's why democracy worked, not because everyone voted, but because the voters were mainly valuable citizens.
Back to bitcoin, it seems we're creating the same sort of governance. Informed noderunners get a vote, people who leave the thinking to others do not get one.
It's a sort of democracy of 17.000 noderunners and it's messy but it works so far. And it's the only way to sustain one.

I was just teaching this yesterday to my students. Your wallet is not tied to the software or the device. You can just load bluewallet on your phone, import the seeds and gain access to your funds. Just know that they're now exposed to a hot wallet so it's best to send the coins to another cold storage wallet.
While I don't recommend ledger, the issue this guy had can happen to any device and it will keep happening as years go by.

Don't run a lightning node. It's too much trouble, honestly. The only way to earn routing fees is with large channels and some expertise. And you're risking a lot without a proper backup solution which we should have had years ago.
Instead just run @ZeusLN or @PhoenixWallet on your phone.

I figured out a way to walk 10.000+ steps per day.
At first it sounds like a lot but it's really not. If you make it a habit then you can do it quite easily.
Persistence is the key, there are days when I'm not in the mood but I still force myself to go out for a quick 5k walk even late at night, which is more than most people do. And I average it out by doing 15k the next day. A habit takes about 2 weeks to form. And then it's a lot easier to maintain.
I listen to audiobooks or podcasts, or music sometimes. It depends. Sometimes I alternate an audiobook and some music to pump up my heart rate, other times I'm not in the mood and just listen to music while I think.
I make a few calls and also send some audio messages to my business partners. That helps pass the time.
The time investment can be significant, and that's one of the main reasons someone might quit. Of course some other high-intensity workout takes a shorter amount of time.
I found a park where I can walk around it without crossing the street. That's important so I can zone out without minding cars and just listen to a good audiobook. I feel that it helps a lot with getting lost in the story, time passes and steps happen a lot more easily.
I listen to books I like. Nonfiction audiobooks can get boring, but good fiction books with cliffhangers and so on can keep me there for hours.
A very important trick is to fool yourself into only listening to that audiobook during your walk. So you reinforce the dopamine rush of the walk with the dopamine rush you get from a good story. And I don't listen any more unless I go for a walk, so that makes me want to go on one. It's the little tricks that work on our lizard brain.
I managed to get some consistent 20k walks, which is a lot. But I was making the mistake of trying to get them all at once, and I was getting tired so I quit sometimes at around 12k. Now I take a short break and just sit on a bench every 7k steps. That way I can get to 21k when I push myself.
It's not just about the specific walking time. Adding in more steps throughout your day helps. Walk instead of taking the car if it's 10 minutes away. Walk around the block instead of a shortcut. Get up some stairs instead of taking the elevator.
I don't have any special wristband or Fitbit, I just use the Google fit app on my phone. I don't know if it's accurate or not, but setting a goal there in the settings and seeing the numbers helps. Sometimes I end up with 9.5k steps and just push myself to just walk two more blocks away just to complete the goal. Having measurable goals is the key.
I get really hungry afterwards, so I eat meat and salad or plenty of fruit. Or both. I hope to get a bit more specific in my meals in the future, but let's fix one habit at a time.
After a few months of doing this, I find myself walking somewhere that's 45 minutes away quite easily.

I saw a slide at Baltic Honeybadger that bitcoin miners spend about 18 billion dollars per year in securing bitcoin.
We mine 900 coins per day until the next halving.

He's Making a List, he's Checking it Twice
You’re Santa Claus. Gift bitcoin at every opportunity. Weddings, birthdays, namedays, anniversaries.
People in Greece and Russia like to commemorate a big event like an engagement or a wedding with something gold. Turn this custom into an opportunity for orange-pilling. Gift them bitcoin, it’s digital gold after all.
Keep it simple. Just load up a wallet with some sats, write the seed words down on a piece of paper with simple instructions on how to recover the funds and give it to them in a nice envelope along with your best wishes.
When people ask about bitcoin, demonstrate how easy it is to transact with lightning. Get them to download a simple wallet like Wallet of Satoshi, tell them to tap “Receive,” scan their QR code and send them 1000 sats. The number looks impressive but it’s a negligible amount, at least at the time of writing this in 2023.
The whole thing looks like a magic trick from their perspective. Downloading an app, hitting a button, scanning a QR code and instantly receiving sats looks like magic.
Purists and cypherpunks cry out about this, that we’re orange-pilling people the wrong way, we’re not teaching them about self-custody, that Wallet of Satoshi is custodial and that’s not real bitcoin and so on.
Who cares?
Nobody has time to educate everyone.
We’re talking about a 2-minute interaction here. If you’re sitting down with an interested party who’s into learning how to bitcoin the right way, by all means.
Go with a non-custodial hybrid solution like Phoenix Wallet, Breez or Zeus, show them how to write down their seed words, explain how important they are, demonstrate how to recover their wallet.
But it’s in a case-by-case situation. Sometimes you’re in a taxi, talking to the driver. Sometimes you’re talking to a waitress in Prague at the end of her shift and you tell her, “I want to tip you with bitcoin, would you like that?”
And every bitcoiner at the table chips in.
That last bit happened for real after a round of beers with Evan Kaloudis during BTCPrague. It helps having other friends to keep it going, like the passionate KenobiNakamoto taking the opportunity to explain to the waitress where she could spend the satoshis we all tipped her.
My point is, that since you’ve taken up the role of orange-piller, that you’re now the Orange Santa Claus. Set aside a few thousand sats on a user-friendly lightning wallet and when the opportunity arises, gift them to people. If you can’t afford to gift out sats to everyone, show your work on social media like twitter (X) or nostr, tell other bitcoiners that you’ve been talking to this person and that person, post a photo, either with their face or concealed, ask for permission, and get people to zap them some sats over the internet. If you have a good enough following and the timing is right that might be even more effective than just sending it yourself. The recipient might get zaps from around the world. Joe Nakamoto does this quite well.
No matter how you do it, keep it simple, fast and easy. Remember, after bitcoin itself, our time is scarce and limited. You want to tease people to look into bitcoin but you can’t do that work for them. It might trigger a search, they might forget it for years and then come back later as hardcore maxis, they might go into shitcoins, they might ignore it and forget about it the next day.
Keep your time and sats invested into this to a minimum because you’re going to be doing this for a long time.

I tried to read some of this guy's @MaxiDerangement arguments. It's good to listen to some opposing opinions every now and then. And all the arguments are lightning doesn't work, nostr doesn't work, I'm anonymous look at me, KYC is bad, monero monero monero, the entire time thinking he's really anonymous on twitter. Which is a joke.
Now I'll go back to using bitcoin lightning 50 times per day, thank you.

My freelance services are not cheap. They're not too expensive, but they're not cheap.
That's because I value my time and I know I will invest way more time into your project than what the paper says for billable hours.
Also, I have so many personal projects of my own. You basically have to bribe me away from them.

Self-custody your own bitcoin keys but make sure you add in a real-world hassle to accessing them. Like splitting multisig in two different houses. Op vault codes where there's a time delay might help as well, allowing you to sleep on it.
I know I am prone to impulsive decisions, I can imagine a scenario where I can be psyoped to do some transaction in haste.
Honestly that's the only thing that scares me with self-custody.

It's the other way around, and if you're not seeing it you're delusional. Monero's use case is supposed to be anonymity, and yet bitcoin, a completely open blockchain that is traceable by anyone is still being used in half the black market transactions where there are real-world concequences to being tracked. That proves bitcoin's anonymity tools do work and that the rest of the transactions are just being carried on because of the monero delusion.

Yes, one could. Also, the security issue. Those badge sites required an nsec, the login with plugin didn't work. That's a perfect way to honeypot everyone. There are many issues.

I know, those are the badges I was referring to. From what I understand, instead of going to a site and issuing one, taproot assets will be transferrable over lightning. Meaning I can actually "send" you a badge. Plus all the programming options that opens up, for example OG nostrica badge owners might get a discount on buying the next ticket.

I want it. Can't wait to see what taproot assets gonna be used for, and since they're digital badges essentially, it makes sense to be on a social layer. You and me are going to the Riga Nostr Party, right? Why not issue a badge on taproot assets and we can display it on our profiles? Isn't that what it's all about, digital bragging rights?

We got paid for marketing work, 2 separate payments. First in bitcoin onchain, the second through a bank. First one went through, got the sats, sent them to someone else already.
2nd payment through the bank doesn't go through and has been lost.

That's a myth, the darknet markets are using basically 48% bitcoin and 48% monero. It doesn't even dominate there, that should tell you something about bitcoin's coinjoin anonymity.
