Speech input is one of the missing features in #Phosh's stevia. I had looked at several possible solutions but didn't want to pull in a ton more dependencies into stevia itself.
While looking for something completely different I stumbled onto #vosk-server which runs fully locally but can be talked to via websocket and so I could punch that into the prototype I had already alying around (video has audio):

Finally got to add support for getting emergency numbers from mobile-broadband-provider-info into #gnome #calls. I guess once that landed we can turn emergency calling on by default in #phosh .

Catching a real world and *unexpected* #Cellbroadcast message revealed some minor bugs in #phosh and its mobile settings but those were easy to spotted and fixes will land for 0.49. Overall #ModemManager, #cbd, and #phosh picked the message up as expected (and the channel setting worked as well):

- picked my way via #puremap's offline map feature
- Send #SMS via #Chatty
- Replied a toot via #tuba
- Listened to 🎵 via #gapless
- Looked up the appointment time on #phosh's lockscreen 📆 plugin backed by #eds
- Checked 💗 pulse via a simple pacer up using #phosh's lancher plugin for the short 🚶
No console needed.

#Debian's experimental distribution now has #ModemManager / #libqmi snapshots to test this more easily. These versions also include support for qmi based modems as found in the #OP6, #Pixel3a and similar devices

Another #Cellbroadcast bit coming to #phosh / #LinuxMobile. The results of the users choice are set in the modem via a small daemon based on information we're getting from mobile-broadband-provider-info. That way only the tiny UI bit is DE specific, the other bits can be reused on other platforms as is. @npub13a8…am5l is working on adding persistent storage to keep a message history.

That won't help the PP though as that is GLES2 only. It'll fall back to software rendering for GTK4 apps but there's some CSS tweaks for GTK4 that make that smoother by dropping some shadows. Maybe that could go into the PP tweaks package?

- it's not just a stub
- typing should hopefully be "sweet"

Hopefully a small (optional) popup indicating the just typed character in #phosh-osk-stub will help me reduce typos even more.
Wanted to add this since ages but I deemed my GTK foo not good enough to have the popover ignore any input and be always properly placed but seems it worked out.

Glad it works for you too. You can avoid the `setcap` by using `AmbientCapabilities=CAP_WAKE_ALARM` in the systemd unit (will be part of phosh-nightly with #phosh's 0.47 release)

With the alarm clock waking the phone from suspend we still need to make sure the alarm sound is audible. We thus need it to have a volume level separate from e.g. media, notifications, calls, etc. This is possible with #wireplumber's "role based policy". There's a lot of lose ends to fix before this all can land but here's a quick demo in #phosh (the alarm sound your is played via #feedbackd which adds the necessary role):

#phosh-osk-stub has an #emoji layout since some time but that takes some tapping and scrolling to find an emoji.
So I added emojis to the completion bar which makes them easier to select (and the MR also adds some infra to add more "supplementary" results to completions in the future):

In case that helps:
I can confirm mesa as of c844409b895d9fe033bbe6e834096bac91941442
is able to use GTK4's GL renderer with:
MESA_GLES_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.0 gtk4-demo
on the #Librem5 and
MESA_GLES_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.0 livi ~/Big_Buck_Bunny_360_10s_5MB.mp4
is also able to play videos (which wouldn't work with the cairo renderer either) (and is at nice ~10% CPU)
EDIT: I havent' checked what exactly is needed for that that could be backported to Trixie)

Either get NXP's kernel to boot (by supplying a matching device tree (and potentially bringing over missing drivers) or copy NXP's kernel's graphics stack over to Purism's tree (also adjusting device tree) and bring over the binary blobs from their reference image.
Both ways are not actually fun, I'd rather spend time on improving the mesa driver.

#wlroots is putting out release candidates for 0.19.0 and I'm running my #phoc branch targeting that on my laptop since today and it didn't crash yet (https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/Phosh/phoc/-/merge_requests/599). That's a pleasant surprise. 🎉
I've also uploaded the wlroots RCs to #debian #experimental just in case.

Works on mainline Debian/Mobian so maybe this needs something from DRI the 4.9 kernel on the FLX1 doesn't support yet? Might be worth reporting to Furilabs.

Not much news on other mobile platforms but I needed a reliable clock that wakes me up even when the 📱 is suspended so I added some boottime clock support to #gnomeClocks.
This together with #feedbackd support can be found in https://gitlab.gnome.org/guidog/gnome-clocks and #phosh's nightly packages.

The arguments brought forward by people saying #LinuxMobile can't be a thing sound about the same as why Linux on servers couldn't become a success back then.
"Only for enthusiasts/hobbyists", "Look at the security/usability/[whatever]", "Google is the thing" (formerly Microsoft or proprietary Unix).
This (as back then) fails to see already present upsides of the project and the enthusiasm of people willing to make it a success (independent from corporate money and product life cycles).

I'd like to understand how Android handles some QMI bits and found tooling by @npub18zj…3hz5 for that on the @npub1vnu…8mqn wiki (https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Qualcomm_Modem_Debugging). @npub16xn…g7f8 are you in touch with the EU regarding the digital wallet (https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20240223IPR18095/meps-back-plans-for-an-eu-wide-digital-wallet) already? This will/can e.g. be used for the driver license in the future?
I skimmed through the documents and didn't read anything on OpenSource/ #FreeSoftware there. Would be great if we could ensure first class support for #LinuxMobile. Is that on your list? Otherwise I could at least write the contact address there.

A limitation of using #phosh in docked mode (having an external 🖥️ , 🖱️ ⌨️ attached to your 📱 ) was that #phoc wouldn't support multiple workspaces. There's an MR that adds initial workspace support now (which might even land for 0.46) 🧵 :

@npub1y00…hx98 reported some issues with #xwaylandvideobridge and #phosh and it turned out it uses _NET_WM_WINDOW_OPACITY which was proposed > 2️⃣ 0️⃣ years ago to be added to the wm-spec (https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2003-December/001413.html) but never landed although Qt, GTK and others use (or used) it.
That just changed (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xdg/xdg-specs/-/merge_requests/97) and we also already have #wlroots support now too so phosh can happily use it too.
But maybe I'm the only person that finds this kind of archeology exciting 🙃 .

Ever since adding the `Haptic` API to #feedbackd for games I wanted to make the `VibraPattern` available to feedback themes as well as this allows for more nuanced feedback.
This allows us to e.g. use more subtle feedback for OSK button presses than for 📢 of incoming SMS.
Opened MRs to make that possible and
while at that I made the maximum strength for all events confiurable too. It's a bit hard to 👂 in the 📽️ but it's there. Hopefully this makes it into #phosh 0.46:

Is there a fosstodon like #peertube instance?
While all videos #phosh has on youtube were posted on the fediverse or phosh.mobi before it would be better to have at least the same kind of collection than on youtube (where we mostly publish to reach people stuck on proprietary OSes).
Can someone recommend a fitting peertube instance?

While #phosh handles centered notches and rounded corners out of the box (as long as there's device info in gmobile) we didn't handle notches on the right or left display corners at all yet..
A merge request from Eugene Lepshy to add support for the #nothingphone 1 made that very obvious so I cooked some inital MR to fix this (screen shot is from a nested phosh session as I don't have such a device):

I always wanted a simple way to put the phone to silent mode when e.g. placing it on the table next to the 🛏️ . Since Biemster got NFC to work on the Oneplus 6/6T (https://github.com/biemster/pmos-openbox-conky/blob/main/nxp_nci_i2c.py) we can leverage that and have feedbackd's profile adjusted when certain RFIDs are seen (https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/feedbackd/-/merge_requests/154). For this to land we want to move the NFC support from a python script to s.th. like nfcd (https://github.com/biemster/pmos-openbox-conky/pull/18#issuecomment-2653920089). Help on this would be appreciated.

I've tagged version 0.3.1 of #livi (a little video player targeting #LinuMobile): https://gitlab.gnome.org/guidog/livi/-/tags/v0.3.1
It mostly happened because I forgot to update the metainfo for 0.3.0 (which makes us look outdated on #flathub) 🤦‍♂️ . But there's one change still: livi now supports surface suspend so saves CPU cycles when the window is occluded (if the Wayland compositor supports it (#phosh will support that from 0.45. onwards).

A while back Adam (@npub1f9r…d662) built a #phosh plugin that adds a quick setting allowing to switch output resolutions (https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/Phosh/phosh/-/merge_requests/1601). I cleaned that up a little to avoid shelling out (so phosh can have an idea what's going on) and added a status page and we were just be able to land that on main:

We have a >2y old merge request sitting in git that wasn't moving and your post prompted the idea that we can simplify this a lot and just use a notification when we detect a portal and then open the browser when the user clicks on it. Thanks for that!
(Ignore the fact that it opens phosh's home page in the video, that's just because I faked the Wi-Fi captive portal for testing in a nested session (that's also why FF won't fit 😃 ).
Hopefully we can land this for 0.45.

as I said: you can bring up shell chrome and unfullscreen via OSK for the case where the app remembers the fullscreen state (still not ideal but making this an option on the apps thumbnail would be rather simple)
At least with the apps I use in fullscreen (e.g. epiphany) this works as expected (although epiphany now has a button nowadays)

On #phosh you should be able to swipe from top to bring up shell chrome and then either close the app or unfullscreen via OSK. (Seems the Phosh you're running is very old but it should already work in those versions).

@npub1u36…w5c4 regarding adaptive file selector portal for #phosh: below is a quick demo.
The selector itself (https://gitlab.gnome.org/guidog/pfs) is using #gtkrs and I hooked it into the xdg-desktop-portal by using #rust's cdylib to instantiate the GObject from C (which is bit hacky on the meson side to e.g. set the soname, so hints to simplify that are welcome).
There's still some things missing to support the full DBus protocol but I think we're halfway there.
