The police and army eventually left. The relatives of the driver arrived and took the car. The young Palestinians who had stopped to help also left, and we left.
Nobody will investigate. There will be 0 consequence for the settlers who were behind the attack. If a Palestinian teenager had done the same, the entire area would have been on lockdown, nearby villages would have been searched, and many people would have been detained.

The young guys were waiting for a relative of the driver to come pick up the car. Though we couldn't do anything and all they were doing was waiting on the side of road, they asked us to stay.
Less than 5 minutes later, the Israeli police showed up in a militarized vehicle.
We filmed them, just to be safe, as they inspected the vehicle and asked the Palestinians some questions. They told us to stop, that we were not allowed to film them. This isn't true but we complied because we didn't want to escalate the situation for no reason. They checked our IDs.

We went and met a few young Palestinians who had stopped to help the driver. The driver had already been taken away by an ambulance. They told us settlers threw stones at the car, beat up the driver, and then poured sand into his engine.

The first thing I noticed when I got into the West Bank, compared to last year, is thousands of Israeli flags lining up the sides of every major road. Before, you'd only ("only" of course) see Israeli flags at checkpoints, around military basis, or in settlements.
After a bit of research I learnt that it started as an initiative of a 19 year old from the settlement of Ariel, who wanted to show that the entire West Bank ("Judea and Samaria") belongs to the Jews.

I'm still in Harabat al Naibi.
Around 6am, like every morning around that time, a few settlers walked their flock of sheeps just down the hill. They come 3-4 times a day. Most of the time, there are no incident, but at times they get closer, even walking their sheeps into the hamlet. They are looking for "friction": to provoke a reaction from residents so they can attack them or call the army. Luckily, nothing of the sort today.

I'm staying in the tiny hamlet of Harabat al Naibi in Masafer Yata.
Two families live here. Last month, settlers stole all their sheeps in the middle of the night. In the past year or two, there's been settler attacks too. So the families have requested that a few activists stay here every night.

This protest was important because the murderer is actually facing indictment, which is pretty rare: 94% of cases of settler violence against Palestinians are not prosecuted. So this was about showing Israel that people are still paying attention.
This is a small group and still I knew 6-7 people in that crowd--which is pretty telling about how small the community of Israeli activists is.

I'm in Palestine Israel.
Before going into the West Bank, I stopped in Jerusalem to attend a protest in front of the prosecutor's office to demand accountability for Awdah Hathaleen.
Awdah was a community leader in the village of Umm al Khair. He was murdered (on camera) last year by a settler from the settlement of Carmel. I met him once in 2024, he was the sweetest, most non-violent person you can imagine.
Settlers from Carmel have long harassed residents from Umm Al Khair to push them to leave their land so the settlement can expand. The murderer is still free and last year, when I was in Umm Al Khair just weeks after the murder, he was already roaming around just meters from where he killed Awdah.

Disagreeing with the logic or strategy of BDS is fine, but it's always too obvious these critics have no understanding of the boycott: we don't claim that all Israelis as monsters, we simply know that Israeli academia is actively complicit in apartheid, and therefore should not be engaged with.

The massacre at Bondi Beach cannot cover all the massacres in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinians can only watch with tearful eyes from their collapsing tents that do not protect their occupants from the whipping winds, as the world is shocked by Bondi, and forgets them at alarming haste.

There were two murderers at Bondi Beach. In Gaza, an entire country and army are behind the massacres. At least 36 people, 18 of them children, died in May's strike on a school in Beit Hanoun. There were many other massacres like that one, including during the "cease-fire" in which hundreds of innocent Gazans have already been killed.

Even the usual blaming of Iran encountered a regrettable factual difficulty: ISIS and Iran are enemies. What a shame the terrorists weren't Palestinians. That would facilitate the propaganda and increase the profit line.
Nonetheless, terrorist attacks of this kind serve Israeli propaganda: They put the Jews and Israelis on the same cart of disasters: How good it is to come together when the whole world is against us.

Netanyahu even tried to talk about the "Jewish heroism," until the embarrassing information came in about the identity of Ahmed al-Ahmed, and for a moment, all the claims that all Muslims and Arabs in the world are guilty of innate murder were silenced.

A minister went to the funerals in Sydney, crossing the Jerusalem-Sydney distance far faster than any minister crossed the distance from Jerusalem to Nir Oz, the representative of a government that attended no funeral of its citizens from the Gaza war. "How come the Australian government didn't send representatives to the funerals of the Jews?" they grumbled in Israel. The chutzpah crossed every boundary.

In the days that followed, the world expressed shock at the heinous crime of murdering 15 Jews. Everyone was horrified by what had happened. The Bondi massacre deserved this global shock.
But the shock was accompanied by hypocrisy, cynical use and double standards. First and foremost was, of course, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was quick to blame the massacre on Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Our demonstrations are in protest of injustice. We work hand in hand with Israeli and international activists who believe, like us, that had it not been for the Occupation, we could all live in peace on this land.
I do not know which laws are upheld by generals who are inhibited by fear and insecurity, nor do I know their thoughts on the civil resistance of women, children and old men who carry hope and olive branches.

Another day in Umm Al Khair, another settler intimidation.
Hardcore settler youths show up at the gate, we come out to film, military police & army immediately show up to question us & check IDs. I've rarely seen so much hate in someone's eyes as these youths.
Still no electricity in the village.

Norway's $2 trillion wealth fund (largest in the world) has divested from 11 of the 61 Israeli companies it invested in, and is reviewing the others. Italy is considering state sanctions against Israel.
This is far more significant than all the diplomatic and political condemnations that make the news every day: occupation, apartheid, and genocide will only end when the costs to the average Israeli outweigh the benefits. It's as simple as that.
