A partition where baseband firmware is stored, sometimes it's not one, but a set of partitions, which don't have filesystem in them — just a binary blob, sometimes there is an A/B thing, in case update goes wrong, sometimes there isn't — it's wise to have every partition backed up, at least of phone's original state.
Yes,when it gets corrupt, it might brick the phone entirely — or not, sometimes it's just weird shit like your case, sometimes Bluetooth stops working or something like that. Some manage to restore their phones by taking images from other phone of same model and flash their IMEI and other IDs back — but it all depends on the chipsety heavily, it's alchemy at this point — I hope yours is just a higher level software problem and you can manage without all this.

Or you might have corrupted the modem partition — in this case you're pretty much fscked, unless you have a backup of it somewhere — it doesn't have to be current even the earliest backup will do, but it has to be from your particular phone, not a different one of the exact same model — that might not work.

True, but somehow Lineage stands out with this "retro Android" feel. Last time I tried installing it on my phone, I couldn't even find a way to switch to gesture navigation instead of those fugly on-screen buttons in GUI.
I'd probably use Sailfish if I had a Sony phone — not sure if it works well with those pesky banking apps, but in Sailfish you can always run Android stuff in a container. Funny thing is that in Waydroid container I was using LineageOS, but Sony phones are officially supported by Jolla, so they probably have even better integrated emulation — AlienDalvik or whatever they call it now.

Try embedding ASS subtitles in an MP4 container and it will refuse.
Maybe some other tool can do it, but I doubt that the resulting file would be compatible with most players.
Also, not only your choice of subtitle formats is limited, but you can't have multiple subtitle tracks as you can with Matroska, but I might be wrong about that.

AFAIK it can only contain the most basic subtitles — no positioning, no styling, no fonts, just plain text. That is the problem.

Some seem to believe that tolerating being treated like shit is a valuable skill of its own. I mean sure — not beating yourself up over some stranger on the Internet being a dick is good for your mental health, what is the point in normalising this in your community. Okay, you CAN be treated like shit by the people you interact with and pretend you're okay with it — but why would you? To prove… to whom and what exactly? This IS toxic atmosphere and there is nothing good or fun about it.
I don't think it has anything to do with being American, they are just more widely represented on this side of Fedi. It's probably some childhood trauma — being in abusive relationship once you subconsciously re-create it with other people and spread it further :marseyshrug:
