That’s a valid concern. Yes, there would be an algorithm that could take into account different user-defined weights that are used to compute scores, which can then be used to determine what content to show or how to show them.

My PR doesn’t hide any content by default, it only makes replies from outside your trusted network less prominent in threads and that can be turned off. Web of trust scoring can be reliable when combining signals of follows, mute lists, reports, events and tags. Once we get web of trust scoring in Damus, lower signal content won’t be as bothersome or noticeable anymore.
I think there is a future where local models could be applied to filter out nonsense but the we’re not quite there yet. It’s also a risk in itself as there could be false positives.

I didn’t answer your first question, so here it is, in case you’re still confused.
NIP-01 defines 10000 <= n < 20000 as replaceable (i.e. referenced by nevent) and 30000 <= n < 40000 as addressable (referenced by naddr).
Both are technically “replaceable” as an action.
When “replacing an event”, you are just publishing a new event with the same “d” tag (if it’s kind 30000 <= n < 40000) and kind number, and clients/relays are expected to recognize that the one with the latest timestamp is the “new version”.

Use naddr for calendar stuff.
nevent should be used when you want only the latest event of a given kind signed by a key. For example, you can have only one mute list or bookmark list. Those are represented by nevent.
naddr should be used when you can have multiple events of a given kind signed by a key, and it uses the “d” tag to uniquely differentiate between them. For example, you can have multiple time-based calendar events for a given key, multiple RSVPs, multiple long-form articles, etc. Those are represented by naddr.

Whereas @npub1ye5…knpr’s blossom-server implementation does. It serves a pretty nice Blossom web client for when I just want to upload and manage media from my web browser to paste somewhere. I wonder if it’s possible to easily graft it onto an arbitrary Blossom server like Haven. Or if there’s some other dedicated Blossom client that I don’t know about.

Just opened a Damus iOS PR that mitigates reply spam with web of trust. After using this feature on my developer build for a few days, I can definitively say that my experience exploring Nostr is way better, and all reply guy spam gets sent down to the bottom of the thread and can be optionally hidden.

Damus still uses a legacy unspecified format (as do/did many clients like Amethyst) where the list of relays is set on the content field of kind 3 follow lists. You cannot specify which ones are used for reads and which ones are used for writes. It’s on my list of things to do to fix for Damus on iOS, as part of my plan to support the outbox model.

I just released Nostash 2.1.0 to the App Store. I guess I lied when I said I wasn’t going to make improvements to the Safari signer extension.
- Added NIP-44 encryption and decryption. This means you can now use web-based Nostr apps that use new style DMs, private data, etc.
- Updated list of known event kinds so that users are better informed about what authorization requests they are approving or rejecting
- Updated list of recommended relays
- Inject extension earlier in the page load lifecycle
- Raised minimum system requirements for macOS + Safari (doesn’t affect iOS or iPadOS) because the extension was broken on the older versions and I don’t have time to fix them

Thoughts: Haven (via @npub196y…m0v9) is great. I feel like my Nostr setup received an upgrade because of it. My images and video get uploaded to my dedicated Blossom server. Nostr events are published to and read from my dedicated Nostr relays. Both of them are publicly accessible through my personal domain.
Eggstr is a hosted service so it’s not truly self-sovereign, but I’m too lazy to run a public web server from home or manage my own VPS on the cloud. Its one-click solution is fantastic. In theory, they could censor you if they choose but it seems less likely to happen than on centralized shared Nostr services. It’s also a step up from using my home StartOS server that can be connected to only by me via Tor when I’m not home, which is pretty annoying.
I do wish that the relay management tools were better (currently almost non-existent). And I do wish that the Blossom admin login used standard Nostr login instead of username and password (that is provided to me in plaintext) — but that might be a Blossom server implementation thing rather than Eggstr.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with all of this so far.

Not everyone likes or wants to use Bitcoin. It’s an instant turnoff for many people. I’m not one of those people, but also, Nostr doesn’t need Bitcoin to succeed.

NIP-05 validation is performed on your trusted network pubkeys that have the NIP-05 domain. It’s not all pubkeys under that domain. And it’s done asynchronously in the background and cached. It can still be a lot, so I hope we don’t get rate limited.

I believe this can happen in one of few ways:
1. Transaction was not a Nostr zap. Only a plain Lightning transaction.
2. Zap was sent to somebody that does not have a name or display name set up on their kind 0 profile.
3. Zap was sent anonymously (i.e. to a random pubkey), which is just a derivative of (2).
We should change (2) and (3) to show the abbreviated pubkey as the display name instead of “Unknown”. I’ll fix it.

Now that I’ve announced this feature to #NosVegas attendees, I’m excited to announce it more publicly on Nostr!
I’ve recently opened a PR to add NIP-05 domain feeds to Damus iOS. You’ll be able to tap on anyone’s Nostr NIP-05 address on their profile to bring up a feed of all profiles within your trusted network (your follows and their follows) that have an address associated with that domain. The purpose is to help you build trust and discover communities by domain.
What does that really mean?
For organizations that provide Nostr NIP-05 addresses on their domain (such as damus.io and block.xyz) to only employees and self-owned accounts, you’ll be able to see a refined feed of profiles and content from your trusted network that belong to those organizations.
For organizations that provide Nostr NIP-05 addresses to customers on their domain (such as nostrplebs.com and primal.net), you’ll be able to see a refined feed of profiles and content from your trusted network for customers of those organizations.

Nostash, the Safari Nostr NIP-07 signer extension, is now available on the App Store for iOS 18+! The Mac release is held up by Apple’s reviewers for various reasons which I’m attempting to resolve now. Kudos to @npub1tvq…krq4 @npub172y…g6ef and @npub162z…tdhy for helping me take screenshots for the release! I didn’t use all of them but it was very helpful to have a selection of images to choose from. Lastly, kudos to @npub19pw…jtwk for building the original (now unavailable) Nostore extension which Nostash is forked from. Please let me know if you have any feedback. I’m not adding any features to it but I am maintaining it, so if you have any bug fixes to report or code contributions to add, please let me know. ✌🏼

For what it’s worth, I went through the airport in San Diego recently. It does have a sign mentioning that facial recognition was present and the photo would be deleted immediately after verification but you could opt out. It’s up to you to believe if that’s true or not. I’ve already accepted the fact that there’s cameras everywhere in airports and the government has my biometric information anyway so it’s futile, but there’s nothing wrong with opting out of biometric checks if you have the option.

It doesn’t seem to work properly on iOS 17 for some reason so I set the minimum to be iOS 18. I’d rather focus my efforts on Yeti than to fix the issues on the older OS versions. Luckily, all iPhones that support iOS 17 also support iOS 18, but the same can’t be said for iPads unfortunately. My own old iPad can’t upgrade from iPadOS 17 for example.

Nostash is a Safari browser extension I created that stores your Nostr private key and signs Nostr events with it per the NIP-07 specification. It’s a fork of Nostore, which is no longer supported by the original developer, @npub19pw…jtwk , and no longer on the Apple App Store. Nostash is currently in beta on Apple TestFlight and I’ll release it to the Apple App Store soon. Please try it with your favorite Nostr web apps and let me know if you have any feedback. I’m only maintaining Nostash as the sole NIP-07 solution on Apple platforms and do not plan to add new features. I will be putting most of my energy into Yeti, a better native iOS signer app, which will hopefully supersede Nostash once it’s ready.
