Last Notes npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I tried listing it there. Can you see it? https://xmrbazaar.com/listing/db7d npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I'd also accept #Bitcoin or #Monaro if anyone wants to buy direct instead of going through the store. Same discount applies. Just DM me and we can sort out the details. #nevent1q…qt8p npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Independence day is almost here in the USA, which seems like a great excuse to have a 10% off sale. Coupon code: HestiaPi4thOfJuly https://www.tindie.com/products/eternalsunshine/hestiapi-one-silent/ Declare your independence from big tech companies. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Holy crap. I just remembered that I set up this coinos thing a while back and I just logged in and there's like $7 in the account! What alternate dimension of social media have I stepped into where I just post about the project I love and people appreciate what I'm doing so much that tip me real money? I have entered the #TwilightZone If it gets higher, I'm going to send it all to the original creator of the #HestiaPi as a thank you gift. I maintain the project now, and put together the kits and thermostats, but I didn't invent it. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker You have the cybertruck, now get the only #OpenSource #thermostat to match! https://image.nostr.build/d07da84eff31f7509d4c3c77a3a481ad62d7026cdcdaa947d834d8a5ded06b11.jpg No, seriously though, I only have one gray case and I don't plan on making any more. I'm not even sure why I have this one to be honest. And just in case anyone actually wants this, I put an option for a silver case in the store. The case you see is what you get. https://www.tindie.com/products/29630/ #HestiaPi npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker From an academic paper on #privacy in #IoT #tech: "Despite all the efforts, many technical privacy challenges have remained unaddressed in IoT." https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0167404820301978 This is why we do what we do. #HestiaPi keeps everything you do 100% private. #freedom from creepy #corporations collecting as much info as they can about you and then "sharing it with their partners". #GrowNostr npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I didn't get to build any hardware today. Life interrupted. 😅 npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker My order of components arrived! It's like Xmas in... (checks calendar) May! I'll probably solder together a few more units soon so I can have them on standby. Heck maybe I'll even run a sale! I'm feeling on top of the world today. 🎉🎇✨ npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I've managed to get some Pi Zero 2 W boards in stock, but if you want to use the one you already have, I can ship you one without a pi. There's a bit of a gotcha with using your own pi zero though: if it's going to be replaceable, the headers need to be on the back of the board for the silent version of the HestiaPi, and the front with the clicky version. Removing the headers and putting them on the other side is possible, but it's tedious, so it's best to just make sure to get the one that matches. https://www.tindie.com/products/eternalsunshine/hestiapi-one-silent/ https://www.tindie.com/products/eternalsunshine/hestiapi-one-clicky/ And if you want to pay in #bitcoin or monero, I'll give you a discount since I won't have Tindie taking their cut or the payment processing fees. Just DM me what you want and we'll make a deal! npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker This is why I would never knowingly buy an appliance that required me to connect it to the internet. There is every expectation that it is horribly insecure, and time and time again this turns out to be the case. #nevent1q…9ch7 The only reason people find out about these problems are when they are exploited, or when someone like me reverses the protocol in order to reveal what is going on behind the scenes. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Placed another order for components. Looking forward to getting #unstoppable smart thermostats into people's homes. No internet? No problem! No chance at it being "sunset" because everything is open source. And it will never #snitch on you or let the some company adjust your heating/cooling set points! Ads? Never. Planned obscelence? Nope. #nevent1q…m0e7 npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I'm going to be restocking on parts soon. I batch up orders to save on shipping and I do it by vendor to try to spread out my costs. I've managed to build up a decent inventory of the inexpensive stuff, but screens, power converters and Pi Zeros are all low. https://image.nostr.build/20a204df015bdfc10cf905e329884143274f1b2d0379ec08d03cd8c17bd89d3b.jpg I'm sure evels will rise over time, but considering I only sell one unit every couple months, it's going to be a while. I don't have the time to run a whole advertising campaign or anything like that. I just want people to be able to have an #OpenSource #thermostat without having to source parts, order custom PCBs, solder them together, hope that they work. It should be easy to choose #FOSS #Hardware, and the software should be easy to use and reliable while respecting your #privacy! I'll die on this hill. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Happy #EarthDay If you are interested in reducing e-waste and are ever considering a new #thermostat, please keep the #HestiaPi in mind. We've been supporting these open source, wifi enabled #thermostats for 5 years and counting. We will not #sunset this device and leave you hanging! We'll keep making the #hardware as long as we can get the parts. The #software will continue to be updated and features added. It's up to you to use them to save #energy. https://www.tindie.com/products/eternalsunshine/hestiapi-one-silent/ npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I think I may have found the pogo pin I have been looking for. This is super exciting because it will allow me to build #HestiaPi #thermostats with a #RaspberryPi Zero 2 W AND still have a functional reset button on the side. Currently, I can build units with the Zero 2, but there's no way to reset it. Instead, you have to flip the breaker to the furnace/air conditioning to power cycle it (assuming you can't access the web interface for some reason). While this isn't the end of the world, it's nice to be able to reboot easily when necessary. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I'm doing my taxes and I found that I'm only about $115 in the hole over the past 3 years for my efforts to make #HestiaPi #thermostats available to people! This is good news because I've spent thousands of dollars on this project, so it feels really good to be almost there. Of course if I got to $1 in the black, it'd mean I was paid a dollar for literally thousands of hours of work, but I'm just going to not think about that 🫣 #FOSS #OpenSource #OpenHardware #IoT #GrowNostr npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Haven't had any #HestiaPi orders for a while. If anyone is ready to ditch their #Google #Nest and go completely open source, I'd be happy go help! No dependence on any cloud services, or even the internet for that matter. But you still get wifi contols. Pretty cool, eh? https://www.tindie.com/products/eternalsunshine/hestiapi-one-silent/ npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Sure, I'd be willing to give it a try! npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Another Monday, another day of surfing the bug tracker for the #Terraform provider for #Proxmox. I'm short on time today, so I can't test one thing that I'd like to test, but still trying to make it clear which issues will be fixed in the upcoming version 3.0 release and what workarounds exist to get people by until the new release drops. If you think #OpenSource development is thankless, try managing the issue tracker (linking issues, reproducing issues, finding workarounds, detemining what conditions cause the failure, etc.) on a #FOSS project! It's still worth the effort though. ❤️ This is why we can have nice things. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker For anyone who is just now discovering me, hello 👋. I build, maintain and sell #OpenSource #thermostats. They can be #WiFi controlled & respect your #privacy. Unlike the #Google #Nest, or the #Honeywell or #Amazon ones, they don't phone home with data about you to be sold to the highest bidder. https://www.tindie.com/products/29630/ 10% off for anyone who wants to pay in #bitcoin! npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Yes, the hardware does, but the software image we produce is based on OpenHAB. If someone made an image based on HomeAssistant that had feature parity, it would be a great alternative and might even end up being the main image at some point. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker #OpenSource is the solution to companies disrespecting you (their customers). https://www.airgradient.com/blog/terms-of-use-uncovered-data-ownership/ npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker OMG, Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W's are available in quantities of more than just one! Quick, someone buy a HestiaPi or two so I can afford to put in a parts order before they sell out! https://www.tindie.com/products/eternalsunshine/hestiapi-one-silent/ npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Thanks, but I'm sticking to open source apps. I do not trust the others. Even if they aren't malicious, and never get hacked by anyone who is malicious, they could just go under and then the app will stop installing on new phones. With open source projects, the community can keep projects going no matter who decides to call it quits. They don't require anyone's permission to keep it alive. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker 🤔 I can't say I've ever tried that... npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker #Selfhosting people who use #Proxmox, I'm a contributor to the terraform provider for proxmox and I need your help. Please boost. I'd like to get access to several Proxmox servers for testing purposes. This will let me determine which issues are specific to particular versions of Proxmox and allow us to do regression testing. Why? As you may know, there's no way to downgrade Proxmox. So if I upgraded to 8.1, I could no longer test compatibility with 7.4 or 8.0. I can't afford to buy, let alone operate 3 test servers, which is why I'm asking for your help. Lets divide up the burdon by letting me focus on software development and testing, while others in the community provide servers to test against. I'd strongly prefer that these be dedicated test servers because I'm going to be throwing i untested code against them (by definition). But if you trust Proxmox permissions to keep me in my little area and not mess up your production VMs, that's up to you. It should work, but I err on the side of safety. #privacy #selfreliance #opensource #foss #selfhost #selfhoster npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker How can I connect with people who would be interested in a privacy respecting smart thermostat? Where should I go? What do you think? #nevent1q…urad npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Hey, I'm late to the party, but I wanted to let you know that I am also stepping to the plate and offering help with an #Proxmox or #sysadmin stuff that you have questions about. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I also want to talk to the hardcore #SelfHosting people out there. The ones who have a VM server and like 20 different VMs all running various services. I want to encourage you to automate your setup. This will let you quickly recover from major errors, more easily test your backups and make it easy for others to reproduce your work. Since I'm an #OpenSource #maxi, here's what I propose: - Proxmox VE for the VM server - Terraform to spin up VMs - Ansible to install/configure software - Packer to make the base images - Borgmatic for backups This stack is #FOSS, runs on pretty much whatever x86 hardware you have lying around, and can scale up to a cluster that allows you to provide services for a medium to large sized community. Importantly, it also scales down to run on some old gaming rig that you have since retired and it now needs a new purpose. I've been getting involved in maintaining and extending the Proxmox provider for Terraform and I'd love to have people here on #nostr that would be willing to help test out the code in different environments, configurations, and so forth. If this is you, hit me up so I can follow you. #nevent1q…lgf0 npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I'm trying to change this "self-hosting is hard" claim (and often reality). I believe part of it is that people only use the term "self-hosted" when something is also conplex and difficult to set up. For example, people don't call is a #SelfHosted hard drive, or synology. It's just a hard drive (or several). The #HestiaPi is an open source wifi enabled thermostat. I don't call it "self hosted" although it absolutely is. My choice of words isn't some clever marketing ploy, it's just what I think of naturally. I guess where I am headed with this is that I'd encourage anyone who is promoting the idea that people run their own servers think about how much knowledge and how many skills are involved. Can it be made simpler and still be useful? I've seen some people do this with full bitcoin nodes that are plug and play, and I think that's great! I want to see more things like that. Simple, turnkey solutions are what we should be producing. Even the people that have the skills to troubleshoot some server software probably don't *want* to spend their time doing do. So design things that are #resilliant and #simple. So fellow #builders, give me a "heck yeah" if you're with me! npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I'd be happy to get you a smart thermostat that doesn't snitch on you, is open source (hardware + software), and isn't going to be sunset like those turds over there at #Google. You can find all the details at https://www.tindie.com/products/eternalsunshine/hestiapi-one-silent/ If you pay in #BTC, I'll give you 21% off. 😁 #IoT #SmartThings #SmartThermostat #thermostat #bitcoin #shopping #sale npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Both the new clicky models worked fine in the case. One of them only worked after I replaced the switch which had a longer-than-normal button. The button was close to the edge and the case was holding down the reset button. It took me a little while to figure out what was going on with that one. 🤣 #electronics #hardware #debugging and #testing npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker https://image.nostr.build/0657010c8d714bde77ba4958f281e3176e588e9130efec491797f5825c210801.jpg#m=image%2Fjpeg&dim=1312x984&alt=Four+surface+mount+LEDs+sit+on+a+PCB+with+unmelted+solder+paste+holding+them+in+place.&blurhash=%23MG8%3Djf5M%7CbHD*a%24xYt7Rj%7EURka%7Dayf7WBt7WBj%5BMdRjt6jZxtoeM%7Cj%5BWB%3D%7Bt7Rjofj%3FjtWCWBj%5BROWBt7axxtayWDWCj%5B%250WCa%7Dj%5Bt7ayWAWBof%3FFayM%7CofM%7CWCxsfPj%5B&x=fd062b2e45fb02d23de3e4f001a8058209f99c2fc4374c2ab24efcb8f0d3006a The front also has some surface mount parts, but I do those with a soldering iron. The hot plate or a heat gun would heat up too much and the other parts would fall off the back. Should open source project developers get paid? If do, what fo you propose to change the fact that 99% of people who get value from the project but fo not contribute value back to the project? With the #HestiaPi project in particular, where people are unlikely to ever buy more than one or two units, how can maintaining the software be paid for? I'm genuienly looking for solutions here. Our commitment to #OpenSource #Hardware, long term support, desire for sustainability, supporting upstream projects, and tolerating imperfect openness in some components for now until more options are available later. However, I very much disagree with this: https://zerophone.github.io/newsletter/ZeroPhone-Weekly-No.-1419/ I hope it was an April fools day joke. It was written in 2019 and was the last newsletter ever written, so joke or not, it may have killed the project. The reason I disagree with the "put it in the cloud" approach is that it violates the goal of self-sufficiency, and robustness in terms of if the project leader leaves the project (for any reason). I also value local-first computation. Technology should work without the internet. Period. It can work better with the internet, and have extra features, but it should be a requirement for basic functionality. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker No ASICS, just a raspberry pi for making the decisions, providing the web interface, etc. https://cdn.tindiemedia.com/images/resize/KWzNM5kQ9erZvyLTGeOdYNWjXYA=/p/full-fit-in/1378x1034/i/697204/products/2023-06-26T05%3A41%3A26.334Z-board%20top%20-%20annotated%20-%203-2.jpg?1687732987 The annotated picture shows the following: 1. I only make open source hardware and software, but it's cool to see people who make videos getting a platform of their own. I'll keep an eye out for shows that talk about open source hardware, planned obsolescence or screwing over huge multinational corporations buy not buying their junk, or having the audacity to repair things you own. Maybe they'd like to talk about the #HestiaPi project. This will cause the PCB to be straight and a specific distance from backplate. Currently, the distance is dictated by the length of the tails on the header pins, which also makes the board sit at an angle. This change will enable 4 identical screws to hold things in place (as opposed to being a combination of whatever fits). If successful, it will make the parts list much better and allow me to stock fewer parts. #IoT #Manufacturing #3DPrinting #Production #Thermostat #OpenHardware #OpenSource #harfware #FOSS #FLOSS https://image.nostr.build/321529edd770becdffa87366ccfb1b8ce6d469c41dbbab237123110edb2219cd.jpg#m=image%2Fjpeg&dim=1920x1440&alt=Base+of+a+HestiaPi+case+which+now+has+spacers+to+hold+the+PCB+exactly+3mm+off+of+the+base.&blurhash=%23FMQhc_200WB9ZIVE1M%7BIUD%25t7WBRjofxtt7ofj%5B009Gxu%25Ls%3Aof%3FHM%7B%25MM%7Bxut7Iot6a%7BIVt7M%7C00WB%7EpIU%3FbRjWB%25LIo-%3BayoL-%3AM%7Bofj%5BM%7Bt7juay-%3BxuD*xuIUj%5Bj%5B&x=63adbf57251fdcdd1fc730a2ecb172b91869c512b9b6b9e3cd311060722719a8 npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Zeus does not appear in FDroid, but I can check out the APK from their website https://image.nostr.build/24c756d509244f15af4bef8603c23077344f0c8d8fdf79043924a818efc061da.jpg npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Does anyone know where I can get a lightning wallet provider that doesn't require a closed source app? I think my brain must have just glazed over it as if it were security settings. Thank you! You have made my Nostr experience so much better. 🥲 npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Does Amethyst have this somewhere? Because it'd be great to filter out some things! npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Now I'm unable to reproduce the issue. 😠 Same hardware, down to the exact SD card. Same software, bit for bit. Same process of turning it on, rebooting, hard powering down... These issues are The Worst. #tech #RaspberryPi #IoT #debugging #troubleshooting npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker OK, I've rebooted this thing at least 4 times in a row and it is working perfectly. For these recent tests, I've been connecting to the #HestiaPi's WiFi acess point and gracefully rebooting the device. So next, I'm going to completely shut down the machine (gracefully), and once it has soft powered down, unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it back in. I expect it will work fine after I do this. My hypothesis is that something might be getting corrupted when I abruptly yank the power and when it is powered back on, the process that reads this corrupted cache doesn't recover properly and is just chewing up memory and CPU power. This prevents the system from "settling down", which is what is causing the eternal loading screen. My next test will be to cut power repeatedly until I can reproduce the issue. If I can't repro the problem, it casts doubt on my hypothesis. If I can, then maybe it'll lead me closer to the answer. And for the record, I feel people should absolutely be able to cut the power abruptly on their thermostat and not have any problems. So that is what I plan on making be the case, if at all possible. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Oh, the plot thickens! My fast SD card booted fine the first time (and through the normal series of reboots), but then ran into this "external loading" problem again. So maybe it's something that is happening after the first complete boot? Or is something that happens when I yanked the power instead of shutting it down gracefully? Or some combination of factors? npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Yesterday I was able to reproduce and resolve an issue someone was having with their home built #HestiaPi. It got stuck on the loading screen because their SD card was too slow. Using a fast, name brand SD card fixed it. Same Pi Zero, same imsge file being flashed, different results. Amazing. This also explains the random reports of slow touchscreens that I've seen over the past few months. Again, caused by a slow SD card. I'm going to update the owner's manual with this info soon. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I am on a quest to find the perfect sized bolts for the #HestiaPi. I just ordered $45 worth of hardware from McMasterCarr. The diameter, thread pitch, and drive are the easy parts. The exact length and ideal head type are what I still need to dial in. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker There is HomeButtons, which is only MQTT, but if you are cool with just one transport, it seems perfect. https://github.com/nplan/HomeButtons npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Hi. 👋 I make open hardware. Where is everyone else at? npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Cool. It looks pretty modular, so I'm guessing getting is running smoothly on a stock #HestiaPi should just be a matter of changing the UI to fit on a rectangular screen instead of a round one, yeah? Anything I should know before I try to set this up that isn't already in the README? npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I am going to experiment with some pads on the case to lift the PCB up by a specific amount. Right now the length of the tails from the headers is what determines the PCB height. This means the height of the PCB varies, even if slightly, on each build. This, in turn, causes the ideal height of the case to vary, as the screen is attached to the shell of the case. Standardizing this offset, the pin header size (top), and the height of the case means a better fit for every #thermostat that I make. Adding these will also require changing the orientation in which the backplate is printed in order to continue avoiding the need for any supports. This is the amount of time, #passion and #engineering that I put into this project. ❤️ If you want to support my efforts in making #OpenSource #thermostats, check my profile on how to donate #bitcoin or buy a thermostat. The thermostats are basically sold at cost +$15/hr for my labor to assemble & test them, but importantly, it also allows me to do experiments that require ordering parts. I can't afford to just order parts to experiment, especially when it's like $10 a pop in shipping charges. That adds up real fast for people like me who don't have a high paying tech job. Thanks for listening. #IoT #HestiaPi #FOSS #FLOSS https://image.nostr.build/50215ff4bd3143338dd3fe3dc4ee9410d282ed9e32966037934131e7ddf6af61.jpg npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker @npub1lh2…a9nk If you still have a #HestiaPi and are still working on a faster, more efficient image for it, I'd be interested in learning more about where you are in the project and probably helping with coding. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Should I print this #bitcoin sign next? https://image.nostr.build/c4ace4e8719c285d5511ce8b04a674f7169de169870c6cc023e5fae300138a75.jpg There is also a base to hold it upright. Would any people here on #nostr be interested in this kind of thing? #3Dprinting #manufacturing npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I am so excited! I finally saved up enough money to buy a #3Dprinter. I just printed the backplate for a #HestiaPi case. https://image.nostr.build/919b016b88ec2bc1c3ee6b63e70ddedd9ef93477ae688f7d35f3c1bd37b80182.jpg It's nothing especially special. I've had many of these printed many of these on friends' printers, at the #library, and at the #makerspace. The difference is that I printed this one by myself. And the print quality is great, despite it being a cheap printer. #SelfSufficiency #SelfReliance #Manufacturing #IoT #OpenSource #FOSS #FLOSS npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker It lets me list the items I am selling, post pictures, descriptions, track orders, chat with buyers who have questions, allow buyers to see my other products, take credit cards, etc. https://www.tindie.com/stores/eternalsunshine/ I know I could say "Send money to bc1q3suv38s3f8l7szhuh3julvqx020mva8jx0lvgj and tell me what you want and where I should ship it" but I was hoping there was something easier to use for both me and buyers. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker You #nostr people seem to be into #bitcoin, does anyone know if there is something like #Tindie that allows me to accept bitcoin? npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I like what you say about #sovereignty. So you have now been followed by a person who makes smart thermostats that are entirely under your control. No corporations, no cloud, heck no internet! npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I suspect this is not going to be a popular reply, but... Why use nostr for IoT? I don't see how it is better than existing standards like MQTT or Matter. It also basically means having to run a nostr relay, because the idea of broadcasting every IoT event to a remote server seems terible for privacy, reliability, performance... basically everything. What would help this NIP out a lot is to clearly explain what problem it is trying to solve and lay out a example setup that makes it seem like it is not burdonsome on either users or developers. If I were to take a stab at it, it might go something like this: The IoT ecosystem has been plagued by a lack of interoperability. Some apps use bluetooth, others ise wifi, and still others use Z-Wave, Zigbee or LoRa. Furthermore, the component sometimes go over HTTP, and other times MQTT. In both cases traffic is unauthenticated, unencrypted and doesn't have integrity in the cryptographic sense. This NIP intends to chip away at these problems by providing cryptographic authenticity and confidentiality without having to mess around with getting TLS certs from a publicly trusted CA, nor setting up a private CA. A nostr relay would run on the hub of the IoT infrastructure, such as OpenHAB or Home Assistant. This is similar to the HTTP or MQTT servers run on existing solutions. Other processes could listen on other transports (BT, zigbee, LoRa, etc.) and send the nostr events to the relay. From there, events could be picked up and acted upon by any devices or clients. There are four main advantages of this over MQTT: 1. Standardized events, instead of every implementation using different topics 2. Standardized data formats, instead of some implementations choosing JSON while others have more topics and plain text 3. Nostr events are signed, ensuring they ate authentic 4. Nostr events are encrypted with the public key of the intended destination. (And then go on to describe the different kinds of events) Note: I don't know if what I said about nostr or the NIP is technically accurate. I'm new here. But hopefully my idea of how to explain what it is solving and how is now clear. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Oh, that wow would be an interesting setup! I'd be happy to help. In fact... I think those solid state relays are rated for 240V (I'll double check in a bit) so you could just run the power through the HestiaPi. The HesitaPi can also be set up to run off of 240V. The EU versions run on this. npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I very much appreciate you raising awareness on this. I donate hundreds of hours a year to open source projects and sometimes question whether it is worth the effort. Just seeing people talk about this is encouraging. It is something I haven't seen much of online anywhere else and within like a day of being on #Nostr, I saw your post. Maybe the timing is just a coincidence, but either way it warms my heart. ❤️ npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker I feel like I must be doing something wrong on here. I am not seeing a single post in my timeline in Amethyst except my own toot. When I click on that, I can see replies. And I can see replies on the bell screen. I am connected to 13 relays... Does #nostr only show me things from people I follow? If so, how am I supposed to find people I want to follow if I can't just see everything and surf for the interesting toots? This is very confusing npub1ydhmq6k7zshd5chdfrmpqpy44jyn02z7amw98knaqascw2flnpzq5serpq Hestia Hacker Hey, I'm new to #nostr and looking to connect with people who are into #OpenSource, #decentralization, and maybe #IoT fans! I make open source smart thermostats that don't snitch on you. So of you know anyone that would like a project like this, tell me about them so I can follow them. ❤️
