Hello and good morning! **Mehdi** here. Thank goodness it’s Friday, *amirite*? Although, having said that, ending *this* week means we’re starting *next* week, and next week… is *MIDTERMS* week. American democracy, no exaggeration, is on the line. Yes, again. (**FYI: **I’ll be live in Michigan with **Zeteo’s** **Prem Thakker** on Tuesday night, so do join our livestream on Substack and [YouTube][4] then.)
In today’s **‘First Draft,’** it’s time to thank the Clintons (yes, the *Clintons*!) for doing what many centrist Democrats refuse to do ahead of these midterms. And it’s also sadly time to mourn the loss of one of the great actors of our time, the one and only **Sir Patrick Stewart** aka Captain Jean-Luc Picard aka Professor Charles Xavier.
Let’s get into it – oh, and no paywall on today’s ‘First Draft,’ so do share with your friends and colleagues and get them to sign up too.

## **Even the Clintons Get It – So Why Can’t the Rest of the Centrists?**
*Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton attend a ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11, in New York City. Photo: Barry Williams/Pool/Getty Images.*
I’ve never been a fan of the Clintons.
Bill’s triangulating presidency dragged the Democratic Party to the right on everything from welfare to crime to foreign policy. Hillary backed the disastrous Iraq and Libya wars and then lost to Donald Trump.
In recent years, they’ve both been ardent advocates for Israel, too.
Remember Bill going to Michigan – Michigan, of all places, home to one of the largest Arab-American populations – in the final days of the 2024 presidential campaign, to [tell][6] voters that Israelis **“were there first”** in Palestine and that the Israeli military had been **“forced”** to kill Palestinian civilians?
[Subscribe now][7]
Remember Hillary [repeatedly][8] [lecturing][9] pro-Palestinian protesters about their supposed ignorance of Middle Eastern history and accusing them of being brainwashed by TikTok?
Yes, those Clintons.
But credit where credit is due.
Because in recent days, as Republicans have escalated their vile, racist, and Islamophobic attacks on Abdul El-Sayed, the Muslim and Arab-American Democratic Senate candidate in the crucial swing state of Michigan, and as a depressing number of centrist Democrats have either looked the other way or actively joined the pile-on, two unlikely voices have spoken up.
Bill Clinton. And Hillary Clinton.
Yes, really.
In South Florida the other day, the former president delivered an impassioned defense of Islam and Muslims, condemning the Republicans’ relentless attempts to divide Americans along religious lines:
> **“I’m tired of people denigrating Muslims for being Muslims.**
>
> **“The Koran says, and I first heard this from my daughter, who read the Koran from start to finish when she was 15 years old, and she said, ‘Dad, read this.’**
>
> **“‘Allah put the different people on the earth not that they might despise one another, but that they might come to know one another and learn from one another.’**
>
> **“There are bad actors in every faith because we’re all flawed human beings.**
>
> **“But the religious wars, the culture wars, I’m just tired.”**
On this week’s episode of ‘High Stakes,’ Hillary Clinton’s new podcast with journalist Kara Swisher, the former secretary of state and Democratic presidential nominee took aim at the GOP’s anti-Muslim fearmongering against El-Sayed. Republicans, she argued, are trying to get Americans to **“not vote their interests, but vote their fears”:**
> **“[Mike Rogers’] surrogates and a lot of the independent expenditure media is really fearmongering against El-Sayed as a Muslim, trying to link him to the Muslim Brotherhood, and all of that… I’m just tired of that, and I hope people are tired of that. Judge somebody on who they are, what they stand for, what they produce… This is not about woke, this is about broke. If you can’t win on affordability, if you are bankrupting the country and enriching yourself personally, try to divert attention.”**
Now, I never thought I would find myself saying this, but Bill and Hillary Clinton are right.
They’re right to call out the bigotry. They’re right to condemn the fearmongering. They’re right to stand up to the Republicans’ cynical attempt to weaponize a Muslim candidate’s faith.
The Clintons say they are **“tired” **of the GOP’s relentless and cynical anti-Muslim bigotry.
But my question is: Why aren’t the rest of the centrist Democrats? Where is their outrage?
Why did Rep. Haley Stevens, who was defeated by El-Sayed in the Michigan primary in August, go on CNN on Wednesday night and [lambast][10] her fellow Democrat over an ad he had nothing to do with while saying not one word about the racist attacks he has had to endure from the right? Why is her fiancé [proudly voting][11] for Republican Mike Rogers, who has [agreed][12] with people who call El-Sayed a **“terrorist” **and whose own [faith adviser][13] has [called][14] Islam a **“death cult”**?
Why is Rep. Josh Gottheimer, one of Israel’s most strident defenders in Congress, indulging GOP smears against El-Sayed and [telling][15] interviewers, **“There’s no way I am ever coming out for El-Sayed right now”**?
Why did Senator John Fetterman falsely [accuse][16] El-Sayed of being **“pro-Hamas”**?
Why can’t Nancy Pelosi bring herself to even say El-Sayed’s name, [referring][17] to him only as **“this new person in Michigan”**?
Meanwhile, there is deafening silence from the top of the Democratic Party. Where on earth is Senator Chuck Schumer? Has anyone heard from him recently? Has the man who wants to be Senate majority leader again issued any statements or given any interviews denouncing the bigoted attacks on the Muslim Democratic Senate candidate in must-win Michigan? How about Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee? Then again, Gillibrand has been no stranger to Islamophobic fearmongering herself, infamously [referring][18] to Zohran Mamdani, the Muslim Democratic mayor of New York, as a supporter of **“global jihad.”** As for Schumer, he [handpicked][19] Haley Stevens as his candidate in the Michigan Senate Democratic primary.
The bigotry from right-wing Republicans is off the charts. It’s disgusting, but it isn’t surprising.
What’s surprising, *shocking* even, is how many supposedly liberal, supposedly tolerant, supposedly anti-racist centrist Democrats seem utterly unbothered by that bigotry when its target happens to be a Muslim. Some remain silent. Others join in.
I would go so far as to argue that Republicans get away with their vicious racism and bigotry because so many centrist Democrats – with the thankful and notable exception of the Clintons this week! – go along with it. The same centrist Democrats who proudly profess to be *against* racism and bigotry when the targets of it *aren’t* Muslims.
As John Stuart Mill famously [observed][20]: **“Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.”**
But in this case, many centrist Democrats aren’t merely looking on and doing nothing. They’re actively making the bad men’s jobs easier.

## **🇮🇷 **Iran War Updates
* **Mixed message:** Iranian state TV [confirmed][22] Maj. Gen. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, received a message from Vice President JD Vance. Iran did not say what it was about. Donald Trump [said][23] it was about medical supplies. U.S. media outlets said it was about trying to restart peace talks. Trump is reportedly [planning to strike][24] Iran again after next week’s midterms.
* **Worse than the crime: **Discussing a visit to the Gulf, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy [charged][25] the Trump administration with pursuing “a cover-up… a dizzying and coordinated attempt to try to hide from the American people and from Congress the costs and the consequences of this war.” Dems, he said, would work to end the war if they retake the House and Senate.
* **General knowledge: **Asked about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s firing of Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, the Pentagon’s top planner, Trump [appeared][26] to think the general, [accused][27] of leaking and [referred][28] for criminal investigation, was a woman. “She’s got problems,” Trump said. “She’s gonna have big problems. We’re very much looking for leakers.”
* **Dire Strait: **U.S. Central Command [denied][29] Iran’s claim to have captured a drone near the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran [said][30] three tankers hit mines while attempting to exit the contested waterway, all catching fire and being abandoned.
* **Beat the blockade:** Reuters [said][31] Iran has “created a secret network of military agencies with global reach to import at least $2 billion in hardware, explosives and heavy-duty trucks since January 2025, evading both the US naval blockade and Western sanctions.”
* **Wider war: **Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen [said][32] a Saudi airstrike killed 13 in western Taiz province, whose governor [said][33] the city of Taiz, besieged by the Houthis, was now “in famine.” The Houthis denied it. Saudi air defenses intercepted two ballistic missiles aimed at Riyadh.
* **Lebanon latest: **Lebanese President Joseph Aoun [said][34] progress was elusive on talks for the withdrawal of Israeli forces in the south of the country. Lebanese officials say continued strikes impede efforts to disarm Hezbollah, which Israel wants to defeat. Israel says Lebanon cannot be trusted to deal with the Iran-backed group.

## Rest in Power, Captain Picard 😢
I’m not sure I’ve ever shared this publicly, but I’m a bit of a Trekkie, so [Patrick Stewart’s][36] death at the age of 86 on Wednesday hit me pretty hard.
Growing up, I loved watching ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ which aired in the late 1980s and early 1990s and starred Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, the second-most famous, but undeniably the best, captain of the USS Enterprise.
Watching Stewart, a Shakespearean stage actor with a [“commanding baritone voice,”][37] deliver rousing monologues as Picard gave me chills. The clip above, from the 1996 movie ‘Star Trek: First Contact,’ is one of my favorite scenes involving Stewart.
Stewart passed away from Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia just 51 days before the U.S. release of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ in which the award-winning British actor reprised his *other* famous Hollywood sci-fi role as Professor Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men. Stewart played Xavier, aka Professor X, in six ‘X-Men’ movies between 2000 and 2014.
I admired him not just for his acting, but for his politics too: He was a [loud critic][38] of Donald Trump, an [opponent][39] of Brexit, a [supporter][40] of the Palestinians, and a [lifelong socialist][41].
In 2003, in an [interview][42] with *The Independent*, Stewart said some of his fellow British actors thought he was “slumming it” for agreeing to play characters in Hollywood sci-fi shows and movies.
“What crap! What snobbery!” he said. “For huge numbers of people, I will always be Jean-Luc Picard, and that’s fine.”
Indeed. Rest in power, Jean-Luc, *rest in power.*

## **🗞️ **What You Need to Know
* **Golf war: **Donald Trump [claimed][44] a staffer was “hit violently in the chest” by a golf ball at the East Potomac course he wants to renovate, due to holes in driving-range netting. The president is looking for ways to circumvent legal scrutiny.
* **Contractual matter: **Trump erupted over news that while at the DOJ, his former lawyer Alina Habba Mildon signed a $50 million deal with a Venezuelan family in search of a pardon. Furious, Trump said she should give some of the money to his presidential library and relinquish the deal, the *New York Times* [reported][45].
* **Faked Alaska:** The DOJ [reportedly][46] issued new subpoenas in the matter of how a man with the same name as Senator Dan Sullivan landed on the ballot in Alaska. Trump continued to fume over the reported role of Democrat Mary Peltola’s campaign. GOP Gov. Mike Dunleavy [said][47] he would not commit to certifying a Peltola win “if we conclude that there were things that should not have happened, that are illegal.” The *NYT* [showed][48] how spoiler candidates are used by both parties.
* **Midterms madness: **Trump made the death of South Carolina Senator Darline Graham’s brother, Senator Lindsey Graham, [all about himself][49]. Looking to California, Trump repeated his [voter fraud lie][50]. In Kansas, he [scrapped][51] a rally for [struggling][52] Senator Roger Marshall. CNN polls [found][53] Kansas and Maine too close to call but Dems leading Senate races in Michigan and Texas. Trump [said][54] Black and Jewish voters in Michigan would be “crazy” to vote for Abdul El-Sayed. Democrats [will][55] send Rep. James Clyburn [and Rep. Haley Stevens][56] to campaign with El-Sayed. CNN [said][57] Texas Dem James Talarico was targeted by AI robocalls from a super PAC funded by Elon Musk.
* **Election attacks:** A law firm linked to Musk started an “election integrity” operation, *Wired* [said][58]. The DOJ [ordered][59] U.S. attorneys in California to subpoena local and state officials over supposed illegal voting, Bloomberg [scooped][60]. Colorado’s secretary of state [said][61] federal monitors in a county in a swing district would be stopped from talking to voters or accessing voting equipment. Washington state [said][62] a DOJ list of supposed noncitizen ballots was “deeply flawed.” A federal appeals court [looked][63] set to block a DOJ bid to resume ICE crackdowns on alleged illegal voting. Attorney General Todd Blanche [personally charged][64] four misdemeanor voting and voter registration crimes.
* **Immigration insanity:** A federal judge [barred][65] ICE from making racially discriminatory stops in Southern California.
* **It’s on, Elon: **Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen and Rep. Robert Garcia will seek to close a loophole that allows billionaires to make campaign contributions while profiting from government contracts, the Washington Sun [said][66], detecting a sign of things to come if Congress changes hands.

* 🇺🇦🇷🇺 **Dirty diesel: **Trump aides are leaning on U.S. firms to accept Russian diesel under Trump’s sanctions-waiving deal with Vladimir Putin, the Washington Sun [said][73]. But most firms do not want it, citing legal and reputational risks while Ukraine warns against “blood money.” The *Wall Street Journal* [said][74] Ukraine paused strikes on Russian refineries, under pressure from Trump. In Ukraine, a local truce [held][75] as aid neared Russian-held Oleshky. Elsewhere, strikes continued.

Laura Loomer Gets a Pass For Her Racism as the Media Continues to Bash Hasan Piker Instead
*On this day in 2015, President Barack Obama renamed America’s tallest peak in Alaska as Denali, its Native American name. In 2025, Donald Trump ordered the name changed back to Mt. McKinley, after the assassinated 25th president – another lover of tariffs.*
Good morning, and [Happy Monday][1] as ever. **Martin** here, delighted to kick off your week. Please note that this week’s Madchester musical link is to the video for “Stinkin Thinkin,” a quality which might be said to apply to many of our subjects today.
First in **‘First Draft,’** we’ll take a look at the wholly absurd situation in which far-right provocateur and close Trump adviser **Laura Loomer** can abuse five prominent Black Democratic women in viciously racist terms, to absolute crickets from the media and Democratic establishment, leaving the strongest condemnation to no less than **Marjorie Taylor Greene**. Of course, our press and pols are busy, what with so many attacks to be mounted on **Hasan Piker** instead. Then we’ll turn to **Donald Trump** himself, and his hissy fit about **Kristen Welker** of NBC correctly saying he has had “some mixed results” with endorsements of late. There are also worrying developments to consider in Trump’s forever war with Iran, with missiles flying over the Strait of Hormuz once again.
We’re also happy to say that this week, **‘First Draft’** will be published without a paywall, so new readers can see what **Zeteo** brings to your table each weekday morning: reporting and opinion on all the news you need, on the political subjects that matter. Let’s get to it.

# ‘Who You Calling a Bitch?’
*Far-right activist Laura Loomer. Photo by Jacob M. Langston/The Washington Post via Getty Images*
On Friday, the far-right activist and close Trump ally and adviser Laura Loomer treated the world to some foul racist invective, calling prominent Democrats Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, former Rep. Cori Bush, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon **“ghetto Black bitches.”**
Loomer said she didn’t care about being called racist, but she did seem to care when one target answered back.
**“Girl,” **Nixon [posted][3], before reaching, effectively, for the campaign vernacular of our times. (See Abdul El-Sayed’s [baiting of “beta” opponent Mike Rogers][4].)
**“You ate dog food on camera**,” Nixon wrote, about something Loomer definitely [did][5]**. “In the words of Queen Latifah, ‘Who you calling a bitch?’**
[Subscribe now][6]
Loomer [responded][7] with more gutter racism: **‘I called you a ghetto bitch, because you are, Angie, and your record proves it. But, you speak Ebonics though, so maybe I need to bark at you and tug your leash and then you’ll finally understand.”**
On Sunday, Nixon hit back, [writing][8]: **“When referring to me, it’s [State] Representative Angie Nixon. However after November 3rd, YOU CAN CALL ME SENATOR!”**
Loomer [wrote][9]: **“Ok[ay] Shaniqua.”**
Enter an unlikely defender. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the QAnon-spouting former MAGA congresswoman from Georgia with [plenty of racism in her own record][10], took Loomer to task.
**“I’m not a Democrat and I’m not supporting Angie Nixon, but the Republican Party and President Trump owns Laura Loomer and her nonstop vitriol,” **Greene [wrote][11]. **“This hateful, racists [sic], and demeaning rhetoric should not be tolerated. Ever. But they allow it and keep her in the inner circle.”**
The Piss Artist Commonly Known as MTG went on to say Loomer’s racism would hurt Senator Ashley Moody, the Republican who will face Nixon in November, just as Loomer’s influence over Donald Trump has damaged the party already. Sticking to her current, politically convenient line of Trump apostasy, Greene said Republicans could win on **“actual accomplishments for your voters and policy plans that will help Americans.”** Good luck with that. But then she went back to safer ground, pointing to Loomer’s own [failed][12] congressional runs: **“Voters proved twice that they reject her completely. When will the President and the Republican Party reject her and her hateful racists [sic] behavior? They refuse to[,] which tells you everything you need to know.”**
Loomer went into overdrive, repeating her slur and using others, [whining][13]: **“Why is anti-white racism ok[ay] but I’m not allowed to call a spade a spade.”**
You had to say, MTG had a point. And so, turning to the press, [did ][14]**[Mehdi][15]**:
> ***“Serious question to every mainstream news network and newspaper in this country: how can you justify crazy obsessive coverage of Hasan Piker and just totally ignore much worse stuff like this from an actual presidential adviser?”***
Loomer may not have an official title, and may have denied working for Trump in her exchange with Greene, but she very definitely is a close Trump adviser, having last year [played a central role][16] in his firing of six members of the National Security Council. Responding to the *New York Times* about that story, Trump denied it but also called Loomer a **“great patriot**.” This June, *Times* reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan provided a five-page account of the meeting that led to the firings. Their [bestselling book, ][17]*[Regime Change][18]*, also includes another description of Loomer’s White House access, lunching and plotting with then-Attorney General Pam Bondi in the West Wing.
Loomer has more on her CV. She recently went after a transgender CIA officer in the White House intelligence directorate, who was soon [removed][19]. She has taken credit for the swift deportation last week of Milo Yiannopoulos, the British far-right provocateur with whom she fell out and for whose removal [she long called][20].
Compared to all that, what is Hasan Piker? A leftist streamer who has made controversial statements, for example about 9/11, [which he walked back][21], and who has seen those and other statements, for example about American Jews and Israel, and [not much different][22] than remarks by Hannah Arendt, willfully and widely misrepresented. Piker [has appeared][23] with Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, who is now being forced by his own party to distance himself from Piker and his views.
[Subscribe now][24]
If it’s near-impossible to find a senior national journalist or indeed a senior national Democrat saying anything about Loomer’s abject racism about a candidate for Senate, two congresswomen, a former congresswoman and the first Black woman on the U.S. Supreme Court, it’s also near impossible to find a senior national journalist or a senior national Democrat not [rushing to attack Piker, on social media or on TV][25]:
But here we are. The president has a close ally and adviser who has called herself **“[a proud Islamophobe][26],”** and who has described Islam as a **“cancer on society”** and Muslims as **“savages.”** We get why no one wants to talk about that, and would rather attack a prominent Muslim commentator and a prominent Muslim candidate, both of them stringent critics of Israel.
But, to repeat, Loomer has now called five prominent Black women **“ghetto Black bitches,” **and repeated and varied the slur. Isn’t that enough to stir up some sort of comment or action? Anything?
[Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?][27]… Loomer?

* **Strait strikes: **On Saturday, a tanker was [struck][29] in the Strait of Hormuz. On Sunday, U.S. forces hit Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the first military action in a month, with AP [citing][30] an official who said Iranians were preparing to launch “rockets with sea mines.” Iran [said][31] fighters and civilians were killed and wounded, and promised to respond. U.S. forces in Jordan were [attacked][32].
* **Slop press:** Late Sunday, Trump [posted][33] to Truth Social AI videos and the message “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!! President DJT.” Echoing George W. Bush, who attacked Iraq, he also posted video of his golf drive.
* **Bombshell report: **The *Washington Post* [reported][34] “several U.S. military leaders have advised Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that prolonging large-scale operations against Iran is unsustainable and risks weakening their ability to confront threats elsewhere.” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell [called][35] the report a “crime.”
* **Ayatollah speaks:** Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei [said][36] Muslim nations should “know your real enemy, understand its plans and confront it.”
* **Family affair: **Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was “evacuated” from his home in Miami due to a “significant threat” to his life, Israel’s Shin Bet security agency [said][37]. ## ‘Rebuke or Punishment’
*Debate moderator Kristen Welker listens during the second 2020 presidential campaign debate in Nashville, Tennessee, on Oct. 22, 2020. Photo by Jim Bourg/Pool/Reuters.*
In Wisconsin in June, NBC ‘Meet the Press’ host Kristen Welker [struggled][41] through a disastrous interview with Donald Trump, then pleaded with him not to stand up and walk out. Later, she said he’d agreed to sit down again.
So much for groveling. Sunday brought an outburst Welker’s way that brought to mind that [tweet][42] that gets [trotted out][43] once a week: “’I never thought leopards would eat MY face,’ sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party.”
On Truth Social, Trump [said][44] Welker would be “reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment,” for the heinous sin of… saying Trump has of late achieved “some mixed results” in endorsing Republicans for Congress.
Welker was clearly correct. For the U.S. House, Trump picks Rep. Andy Ogles (Tennessee), Rep. Cory Mills and Catalina Lauf (Florida), and Amir Hassan (Michigan) were beaten. [So were][45] gubernatorial picks Mike Lindell (Minnesota), Burt Jones (Georgia), Rep. Randy Feenstra (Iowa), Pamela Evette (South Carolina), and Megan Degenfelder (Wisconsin).
Yes, Trump’s [general record is strong][46]. But even the high-profile wins he touted were not particularly comfortable. Last week, Trump dragged Lindsey Graham’s know-nothing sister, Darline, over the line in the South Carolina Senate primary and saw Mike Mazzei squeak the nomination for governor in Oklahoma.
Meaningful FCC “rebuke or punishment” for Welker is unlikely, however much Trump squeals about his pet FCC Chair, Brendan Carr, taking “this threat to our country very seriously.”
But Trump’s outburst did point to his very real threat to the press. As he bleated [about][47] “fake polls used by a crooked media,” reporters from the *New York Times*, the *Wall Street Journal*, and Bloomberg were being barred from the G20 meeting in North Carolina, while the Pentagon [claimed][48] a *Washington Post *report of military warnings about extending the Iran war was a criminal matter.
On Sunday, NBC said: “Kristen is one of the best in the business, and we stand by her.” It would have done better to call Trump out as the threat to free speech that he is.

## **🗞️ **What You Need to Know
* **Bizarre interview:** Speaking to GOP congressman turned Fox host Trey Gowdy, Trump talked Iran, the economy, and [dream (golf) foursomes][50]. He also confirmed he wants Republican voters to pretend he is on the ballot in November. Polling suggests that may be unwise.
* **ICE horror:** Ten people [described][51] to the *New York Times* brutal deportations to Liberia, where they have no ties. Five said they were beaten for protesting. “They didn’t treat us like people, like human beings,” said Carlos Téllez-Sanchez, from Venezuela. “They can say or do anything to you and there’s nothing you can do.” CBS further [reported][52] the increase in such “third country” deportations.
* **Deport in a storm: **Trump Border Czar Tom Homan [all but admitted][53] far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos was swiftly deported and publicly shamed because even-further-right activist Laura Loomer told authorities the Briton overstayed his visa. Homan denied Yiannopoulos was deliberately spared detention in tough conditions.
* **Dem defers:** Veteran Rep. James Clyburn [told NBC][54] Democrats should not prioritize impeaching Trump if they take back the House. “Our priority ought to be making housing, education, energy, healthcare affordable and accessible for all of our citizens,” he said. “Impeaching the president will not do that.”
* **Lying eyes: **Mike Rogers, the GOP Senate candidate in Michigan, [claimed][55] in a fundraising email to have seen “the dead body of Osama bin Laden with my own eyes.” But in 2011, at the time of the raid that killed the al-Qaeda leader, Rogers, then chair of the House Intelligence Committee, told reporters he was informed of events the next day.
* **Epstein news: **A Brazilian doctor whose wife [publicly linked][56] Donald and Melania Trump to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein [fled Florida][57] days before he was due to go on trial for allegedly conducting cosmetic procedures without a license. Joao Araujo said he was “a fugitive now. With honor.”

José Andres, head of World Central Kitchen, [addressed][61] the Israeli officer who [said][62] he wasn’t sorry for directing the strike that killed seven of the aid group’s workers in April 2024. “There will never be any excuse for killing them,” Andres said.
* **🇵🇸 West Bank latest:** Israeli settlers [forcibly detained][63] a British activist trying to protect a Palestinian village. Finn Joughlin’s lawyer [said][64] he would be deported.
* 🇺🇦🇷🇺 **Deadly cost:** The toll from the worst Russian attack this year rose to 38 with four missing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky [said][65]. The Friday strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv that stored ammunition, sparking explosions and fires.
* 🇨🇦 **Off the charts: **Google Maps kowtowed to Trump’s [ridiculous trade war bullshit][66] and childish executive order and [changed][67] Lake Ontario to Lake America.
* 🇻🇪 **Oil grab: **The *Wall Street Journal* [described][68] how U.S. companies refusing to play ball over Venezuelan oil after the removal of President Nicolás Maduro led Donald Trump to have the U.S. government take a direct stake instead.
* **🇨🇳🇳🇵New warning:** Nepalese authorities [warned][69] of possible new flooding, days after flash floods caused by a fracturing glacier [killed at least 900 people][70] and left thousands more missing in Nepal and China.

***Donald Trump says he’s renamed Lake Ontario as Lake America. How much of Lake Ontario is in Canada?***
Keep your eyes out for the answer below!
## 🙄 WTF?!
Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is campaigning with AI slop celebrating the starvation of Palestinians. Disgusting irony of the portly Ben-Gvir being shown looking trim and healthy? *Noted*.
#### 🧠 Trivia answer: [54% is in Canada][72], and 46% in the U.S.
## 📺 Sunday Show Roundup
* Confronted with **Democratic Senator Chris Murphy’s** claim that ICE is “arresting parents at school bus stops” in Connecticut, leaving children “alone [and] scared to death,” **Trump Border Czar Tom Homan** failed to issue any sort of denial. “Now, did they arrest somebody at a bus stop? I’m not aware of that,” [he told CNN’s ‘State of the Union.’][73] “But ICE is out there to enforce law against those that have been ordered removed by a federal judge… there’s no safe harbor.” Homan also [defended][74] deportations of previously legal Haitian immigrants that a UN monitor called “insane.”
* **Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina**, 86 and in Congress 33 years, [told NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’][75] he regretted advocating for **Clarence Thomas** during his 1991 Supreme Court confirmation process. “I have made mistakes in my life, and that’s one that I made, and I will own up to that mistake,” Clyburn said, considering Thomas’s far-right opinions and [alleged rampant corruption][76]. “I had no idea that Clarence Thomas would rebel the way he has against his own background and experiences,” Clyburn said, adding that he supports expanding the court.
* Wearing a blazing red Canada soccer jersey, **Ontario Premier Doug Ford** [told ABC’s ‘This Week’][77] that **Donald Trump’s** trade war will be “devastating on both countries but… definitely devastating on the U.S… A tariff on Canada is nothing more than a tax on American people, and it’s probably the worst move he could ever do.” For good measure, Ford added that Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America was “like something out of ‘Saturday Night Live.’”
