Boomers own all the businesses, but did you know the SBA will give you a 90% business loan including purchase price, inventory and operating capital to buy one of those businesses?

I run a small business. Wells Fargo called me this week to try to entice me to bring more money into savings. They’re offering 4.5% interest on savings balances over $100k.
I said to the banker “so Wells Fargo is getting its ass kicked on tits bond portfolio and is now begging for deposits to help maintain liquidity?” His answer was “pretty much”.
Watch your back out there. Pay attention to where you have counterparty risk. A deposit at the bank is not your money. It’s the banks money.

People report this as if it is a bad thing. I would take a US$ backed by gold over what we have today. It’d still be fractional reserve dollars held in a bank but it would be grounded to reality. An unbacked currency is the problem we need to solve for. Bitcoin ties value to the real world: Time and electricity. If future generations want more sovereignty, let them fight for ground. The tools get better all the time, but the tools demand a stable foundation. Bitcoin is that foundation. Do not fuck with it.

Frankly, I am not convinced that I trust anyone fucking around with the thing I use as the denominator in of value in my life. I don’t have the ability to audit proposed changes so my nodes answer is hell no unless and until I see broad consensus, compelling arguments and even then I think changes should only be made in dire situations where the existing network is under threat. Bitcoin is a sound money virus infecting aging and sick Fiat to make way for something better and new. That is SO much more important than “features”. Use Lightning, ECash, Fedimint, or make something new, but don’t fuck with the base layer.
When the dollar was founded, there was no Venmo, no SWIFT, no FedWire or MasterCard. As the value of Bitcoin expands (which happens because it’s is the one predictable thing in a world of bullshit) new users will emerge and demand new features and entrepreneurs will rise to the task.
I guess what I’m saying is I don’t know who you are but I don’t trust that you’re smart enough and benevolent enough to trust with the job that you’re asking for. So no thank you, from my node to yours.

If the soundness of the network is compromised then the value prop of Bitcoin is destroyed. It is impossible to fully wargame the attack surface area of any change. Therefore changes should be made only in cases wheee there is a threat to the network. Everything else can be built on layers.

Please share. I’m not techy and haven’t figured out to to have a big reach on Nostr yet:
When I was 17, I signed up for the US Marine Corps. By the grace of God I failed their medical exam and never completed enlistment. One of my best friends from high school did.
Two years later, he called me in the middle of the night from Germany. He had been shot in Iraq and was being flown home for emergency treatment. The next morning I picked up his mom and drove the distraught woman who spoke very little English 23 hours straight, only stopping for gas, to be there when he got home.
In the hospital I watched as the nurse turned off the light in the room to shine a flashlight on his wound to check for infection. The bullet entered his back between his spine and his shoulder blade and mercifully made a turn to exit through his upper arm, missing any organs but shattering his arm completely. In that dark room I could see the light of the flashlight passing fully 9” through his body. I could also smell the rotting flesh from the infection she was checking for. The smell got worse for weeks before they got it under control. He was unbearable to be around and I will never forget that sweet acrid smell.
He took most of a year to recover and eventually tried to start a civilian life. Broken by war, he couldn’t hack it and eventually reenlisted serving at least two more tours of duty with the army. Last I heard he was a drill instructor teaching other young boys to do what broke him.
We’ve lived very different lives and have grown apart but still talk a couple times a year. The conversations are challenging for me but I try to remember his life has been vastly different from mine. He will often say things like “I need to get back to war, I miss killing people”. I have nothing to say to those comments. I just feel tremendous sadness for him, his family and for the lives he has destroyed under orders from the government I fund (under duress) through taxes and inflation.
That is what drives me to save in Bitcoin. It is the only way for me to shield some of the value of my labor capital from the military industrial congressional complex that has destroyed millions of lives around the world including in our own military.
Number-Go-Up is an incredible feature and one that I enjoy very much, but if I all I accomplish in being a Bitcoiner is forcing the government to be a little bit smaller and more accountable to the people it is intended to represent, that is enough for me. If one less mother has to bury a son, that is a worthy outcome.

A customer just publicly complained about our business online. Here’s my process for dealing with it:
1 - apologize profusely even though we’re not at fault
2 - issue a full refund even though it results in the business loosing money
3 - buy more sats and move them to multi-sig cold storage so that there are less sats available for the customer who complained when they finally realize that fiat is failing them
4 - smile, knowing that I have already won

Granted, sovereignty is the end goal, but if we take the savings route, we solve problems that bring powerful players to our side. If we fight AML/KYC head on we become a target. Love them or hate them, Bitcoin is stronger with BlackRock and Fidelity onboard (as opposed to outside slinging rocks at us). Bitcoin is an infinite life raft. It grows to accommodate everyone who agrees to the rules and climbs in. The more people in the life raft, the less people are outside dragging us down. As sound money takes over the world, the burocracia that threatens us with KYC/AML looses the ability to dilute us with printing and will eventually need Bitcoin themselves. Their only option will be direct taxation and citizens will once again have influence over the rules we will accept from them. That is how we beat KYC/AML. Not by sneaking around the rules and making the life raft a target but by outlasting the sinking ship and becoming the only viable option. Once they’re on the raft, we all follow the same rules.

Current tech (at least in the west) gives me all the functionality I could ever ask for on payments. Not an issue for me ever. Current technology (excluding Bitcoin) gives me zero effective options for long term savings. Outside of Bitcoin, my best option for savings is real estate which requires a good credit score, a deposit, taxes, maintenance, insurance and a monthly payment in order to maybe maintain or grow my savings and liquidation costs ~10% in fees. Bitcoin solved my savings problem. I still don’t have a payments problem. If I ever do, I have no doubt Bitcoin can solve that too when there is market demand for a solution.

The book Atomic Habits made a big difference in my life. It’s all about stacking small habits in ways that add up to a big difference. Examples: I make my bed before I turn on my computer and put a book on my pillow. When I enter my room for bed, my phone goes on the charger across the room from my bed and I read until I’m tired. Makes a big difference in sleep quality. Another small habit is that while I brush my teeth I do 50 heel lifts. It gets me started working out for the day and I try to integrate other small workouts throughout my day since I don’t have time to go to the gym. I own a small business and one of the new habits I plan to try is every time I get a purchase order, I have to make a cold call before I can confirm the order. This is to prevent being complacent when business feels good.

I run a cash hungry small business. We keep a small treasury of Bitcoin. It’s not Bitcoin volatility that scares me. I never put money into Bitcoin that I expect to need in the next 5 years. The goal is to never sell it. What scares me is economic volatility from stupid fed games. I have to buy inventory 3 months before it is sellable and sometimes it takes longer than that. Margins are only in the 5-15% range depending on the product. A big economic swing could put me very upside down on inventory. As a result, I have to keep more money in cash than I am comfortable with and accept the debasement. Fiat games keep me up at night.

I play a game with my kids where we take turns hiding gnome dolls. They are very mischievous. My youngest hid one in her closet. I went in to find it and as a joke pulled the door shut and started gently banging on the walls and giggling/gasping. I came out and told her the gnome was nibbling my toes in there. Cute and funny, right?
The poor kid now has an extreme phobia of gnomes (and closets) and may never sleep through the night again. I was up four times last night to check her closet.

We need a decentralized Amazon.
Amazon has increasingly moved to abusing sellers with advertising costs. I spent a year and a half trying to cater to the algorithm and build a brand. I kept my costs down by importing raw materials direct, building packaging and labeling the product myself. I have trademarks and have done everything right. Reviewing my year it’s costing me $1 in ad spend to generate $1.20 in gross sales. In addition they charge 15% commission, storage fees, FBA fees based on item weight size and category and the seller is responsible for returns and damaged/lost products.
My material costs are 25% of the sales price. Add it all up and I’m selling at a significant loss. I would have stopped earlier but I built significant inventory to support the additional volume and there was no other sales channel for me to move the volume. It would have been cheaper to throw it all away, but I reasoned that with time and reviews it might start to improve. I have over 50 5 ⭐️ reviews and haven’t seen any boost. I answer every customer question and follow best practices on the platform.
Amazon is designed to extract money from entrepreneurs. If we build a decentralized version we can pass the savings to customers and improve the customer experience. Vendors would flock to it but it would be difficult to compete at scale without a “hook”. Ideas?

BTC and zaps are great but any other parents out there struggling rn? My six yr old is a smart wonderful kid but she is so quick to anger and has been since she was an infant. We are booked for our first family vacation ever and leave the day after tomorrow. Her stress level has been building all week and she’s waking up screaming in the night. The days are touchy too. Bedtime is the worst and she’s staying up until 11 screaming and crying while we cradle and support her. We have tried firm boundaries. No boundaries and everything in between. Nothing seems to help. We have spoken with therapists, councilors, teachers and just about everyone we can. No one can help. Thinking about canceling the trip altogether but it’s not fair to her little sister or the rest of us and I don’t want to cheat her of the experience either. We have her in a homeschool co-op group and after trying everything else we’ve found a routine that minimizes this behavior when we’re at home. Worried that we’re fucking it all up by traveling.
Anyway, sorry for the real talk, just needed to vent. GN nostriches! I love what we’re building here.

I’m here and poking around but I still don’t fully get how this is different. I can feel the momentum and the electricity in the air, but I’m not technical and don’t fully comprehend what I’m participating in. It’s not unlike Bitcoin for me in that way…I’ve invested thousands of hours in podcasts and books on the subject. I understand it enough to know I want to be early, but despite my best efforts the tech is beyond me.
