The surge has eased since the highs of last night around 5.5 users/sec, but is still currently >5* the rate it was at for a few weeks before last night. Started today at about 1/sec and has slowly picked up through the day.

It grates a little to watch very large accounts who did nothing to get this place going, arriving very late, on a cynical calculation of where the wind was blowing, being happy about their new very large followings. We have to swallow it because they are actually helping now, late though it is.

I'm fascinated by who has stayed on in the staff at X to support the operation. It's one thing to feel trapped on it by your need for exposure or commissions, but another to work every day to help dismantle a democracy.

Every person I've seen complaining that their feed is not as interesting as their old Twitter feed has been following around 100 people. I think it needs to be 5-10 times that to make it work.

The premise of this piece is not right. Musk doesn’t adhere to an absolutist version of free speech. Eg Twitter was censored during Turkey’s elections at Erdogan’s request.
