Thanks! Well I'm not really sure if races are my thing 😅 This is my second race and I hated it. Also mind games are horrible on long runs like this... Almost panicked. Never know if I might change my mind in the future of course.

2FA doesn't explain why it works on other macs, other devices and other user accounts on this Mac. Also caldav or custom URL subscriptions won't work either, not even public ics. It's clearly a broken Calendar app. Worth noting that other Google services like email and contacts work fine. But nothing in Calendar.

I have about 10 000 notes in Simplenote. I love the app because it has least friction. Things like Notion, Evernote, Google Docs, Craft and even Obsidian are the worst, too much friction to add a simple note as a dump. I don't want to spend time on not writing, I mean in things like what to add as title, tags, folder, where to put it, how to format it... I just want to 1) open the app, 2) write a note, 3) forget about it.
Simplenote is 99% perfect, the notes can be without headings, the note list opens up as soon as you open the app. Simplenote has been my daily driver since 2008. 16 years worth of notes. I have a cron job that syncs all note changes to my git repository so I have my notes as txt files always backed up.
Simplenote's only gripe is that it's too simple. No formatting, they are just text files. I don't miss any features, but they don't seem to develop it any further, see this: https://github.com/Automattic/simplenote-electron/issues/2850#issuecomment-1285251706 - Sometimes I need a little formatting to make it easier to read. But I'm too late in the game to switch now. I don't want to leave all my notes behind over the years and importing them to an "organized" app would be too much work.

Minulla on tosi kaksijakoinen suhtautuminen Metaan. Ovat saaneet niin paljon hyvää aikaan open sourcen saralla (PHP, React.js, jne.) mutta sitten heidän kaupallinen koneisto on kuitenkin tosi syöpää. Threadsissakin olen lähinnä innoissani, että osallistuvat W3C/ActivityPubin kehitykseen ja vievät sitä rytinällä eteenpäin, toki omat agendansa taka-ajatuksena, mutta olen optimistinen.

It’s a bit of a stretch to say character limit is ”trying so hard to be X”. I completely disagree. It has nothing to do with that, especially because X character limit is still 280.
Most of the social media software in the Fediverse have mostly the same features and some more. Most of the microblogging platforms resemble X by their UIs. And that’s perfectly OK. Take my Bird UI for example, inspired by Twitter: https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/mastodon-bird-ui

:skull360: We have now successfully upgraded to v4.3.0-alpha.4+mementomods-2024-06-30+pr30850 + Mastodon Bird UI 2.0.0rc38. The server has Mastodon Bird UI 2.0.0rc37 installed with no further changes at this time in the UI.
The branch is now synced and up-to-date and 238 commits ahead from the last version 2024-06-01.
This version contains some fixes to both Mastodon and Mastodon Bird UI. Most notably the new experimental hover cards feature is available for our instance.
As usual, please tell me about any strange things you may encounter with this Mastodon version. We're running bleeding edge after all.

- No they don’t. Check out The Lounge, Beeper, IRCCloud etc. Really modern IRC clients out there that support uploads, emojis, statuses and more.
- The Internet is built on links and it’s fine. Many IRC clients can upload the file as link by default nowadays.
Have to mention though that these are NOT a requirement. They are a bonus.

I’m a designer so I like my things pretty, which is a subjective matter. Your pretty is different from mine. Yet I also appreciate the CLI on runlevel 3.
If you see no problems in any of your setups, good for you. I see no greater problems in Apple’s products. So I guess we’re both fine :thumbsup: No need to open it up further.
I currently use every popular OS somewhat equally.

Wow. Yes, that’s us! We’ve always used these nicnnames on IRC and we actually met in IRC 18 years ago. And we still use IRC daily.
The log files of our IRC channel have always been public so no wonder they are food for AI bots. https://www.pulina.fi - Example: https://www.pulina.fi/pul/pulina-2020-01.log - There are logs for almost 20 years like that.
The discussion there doesn’t make sense though, those lines might be randomly selected from logs over the years or then invented by AI from that:

Hyvä, jos niin! Olen ikuinen optimisti, minulle se tarkoittaa sitä että haluan uskoa mieluummin että asiat menevät hyvin kuin että ne menevät perseelleen. Turpaan on tullut ihan tarpeeksi, joten uskon mieluummin hyvään. Kaiken järjen mukaan jatkuvien vastoinkäymisien pitäisi latistaa, mutta minua ne ovat varmasti jollain tapaa vahventaneet ja lisänneet resilienssiä. Aina ei ole pakko jaksaa, mutta pakko on kuitenkin hengittää ja elää - ja niin haluan edetä.

Nykyään on asiat sinällään hyvin, olen tehnyt monta elämänmuutosta. Perustin oman yrityksen 2013, pääsin veloista eroon 2020, lopetin alkoholinkäytön vuonna 2020, laihdutin 20kg painoa pois vuoteen 2021 mennessä ja olen fyysisesti paremmassa kunnossa.
Mutta nämä vaikeudet ovat muovanneet minusta melkolailla erakon, enkä pääse ahdistusta karkuun.

Tried them last night. Not a fan having to form them each night. Also they seem to push against ear canal too much, as far as I know I didn't push them to ear canal, but I have strange ears in this regard I guess. Ordered Loop Quiet 2, let's see how they perform.

Thanks. Just went to pharmacy and saw these but for some reason didn't take them. I actually have no idea how many boosts and favs some of the most successful posts get here in the Fediverse, because my instance shows a fraction of them no matter how successful they are. But guess what? I don’t care! It’s the best part here, to effectively unlearn that like-craving social media trait.
Everyone likes ”likes”, but in here it happens in our own terms and overall the metrics don’t really matter in the end.

:skull360: We have now successfully upgraded to v4.3.0-alpha.3+mementomods-2024-05-26. The server has Mastodon Bird UI 2.0.0rc37 installed with no further changes at this time in the UI.
The branch is now synced and up-to-date and 158 commits ahead from the last version 2024-05-01.
I love running the newest version so I can test ahead in production for the upcoming Mastodon Bird UI versions. I do have my local instance with the production db, but it is far more fun this way and it feels good to have new things.
This "testing in live" is also because it's the perfect way to make sure that I can help contributing to Mastodon and spot bugs before they end up in the final rc, beta or stable versions. There most probably will be some minor bugs, but the earlier we tackle them the better.
As usual, please tell me about any strange things you may encounter with this Mastodon version. We're running bleeding edge after all.
