Yes, that one place is called the #FediVerse. And it's not just for one thing either. It's for videos, and microblogging, and also pictures, discussions, long form posts, code, news etc. And it is resilient and is never going away or be controlled by vested interests - as long as people keep supporting it. Why would you choose not to support it?

Came up with a technique to override typeclass instances in #PureScript piecemeal. For example, to override the String show instance to use single quotes -
```type ShowD a = forall r. (Show a => r) -> r
-- Get the standard show dictionary for a type
provideShow :: forall @npub1r9d…uazf. Show a => ShowD a
provideShow r = r
-- Substitute a dictionary
provideVia :: forall @npub1r9d…uazf @b. Newtype a b => Show a => ShowD b
provideVia = provideVia' (provideShow @npub1r9d…uazf)
where
provideVia' :: Newtype a b => ShowD a -> ShowD b
provideVia' = unsafeCoerce
newtype Str = Str String
derive instance Newtype Str _
instance Show Str where
show (Str s) = "'" <> s <> "'"
-- -- 'asd'1234
x :: String
x = provideVia @Str @String do
show "asd" <> show 1234```
2024-09-19 06:35:23 GMT
- reply
Sure I agree with that completely. Technically though, and I'm not arguing in its favor, the law doesn't criminalise cohabitation - it just asks that cohabitating couples register themselves. That that requirement is so onerous on its own is a product of the Indian police state and the regressive mindsets of the powers that be
2024-09-19 06:20:22 GMT
The devil is in the details, and I implore you to check out the details of the current personal laws in India
2024-09-19 06:19:17 GMT
I find the entire article disingenuous because it does not mention that the current personal laws are extremely regressive themselves. Removing those *far* outweighs any other concerns.
Did you know that the currently applicable muslim personal law explicitly states that civil disputes and laws are governed by the written word of the Quran and the state has no role in it. Would *you* want similar laws to be enacted for Christians and the bible? Or hindus and the manusmriti (to take an example of an arbitrary hindu religious text)?
2024-09-19 05:28:22 GMT
- reply
That article seems biased and low on details.
UCC as a concept is different from specific laws. Ask for the specific regressive laws to not be enacted. And note that there are already many existing regressive laws in India.
One cannot support secularism and yet oppose a common set of laws for people from all religions.
