I believe the best way is to make the purchase of relays very seamless within Nostr clients, either as an included feature for Premium access, or one-click rent your own. I will attempt to make that into my new Nostr client (Nostria).
Perhaps the issue before has been that you purchase access to a larger shared relay, instead people should purchase their own relays. As long as Nostr clients implement the outbox-model nicely, it shouldn't be an issue discovering users and their content.

As a long time user and developer of a Nostr client, coming back to improve my Blockcore Notes app, I'm coming to the realization that Nostr is not what it used to be. The complexity of the protocol has just gone utterly too far for any reasonable team of developers to implement it.
That comes on top of the real issue, which is figuring out how to make Nostr reach global scaling.

Considering starting a series of coding articles on Medium, Substack and Nostr. Is that something that is of interest to the Nostr community? The focus would be on building "The Perfect Web App", with frameworks such as Angular (TypeScript) and Node.js, but the lessons apply easily to React and other backends too.
I have built many apps in my life and I'm consolidating some of that experience and knowledge into a generic app template, and I want to make articles that goes through it all.
Is this something you might consider valuable to have on Nostr or not?

I did it a while back, it's still pretty nice to use and it is my primary desktop client for Nostr. It's a bit different than other clients, focused on different features. I have not been updating it much recently, maybe I will again one day.

As long as the data that is made is independent of a domain, it’s not centralised and can flow and be accessible anywhere. When data is only accessible from single point, it is centralised. Web5 DWNs can also be considered “centralised” if everyone use a single central cloud provider, but both protocols support any number of relays/DWNs pr user.
There is no chance that Nostr and DWN is going the way of Telegram/Samorai.

I just recently resigned to work on my dream app. I have built various open source software on my spare time, like Blockcore Notes (#nostr) client, which I still love to use, and the Blockcore Wallet, which is a Nostr extension, #Web3 extension and #Web5 extension.

Hi! A feature suggestion: Stop requesting the public key from the extension all the time, just cache it. The Blockcore Wallet reports whenever the key is used and it could probably be optimized by not requesting this much. https://m.primal.net/IAIK.png

Same with Blockcore software I work on, I don't put any tracking at all, I have no idea how many is using Blockcore Notes or any other Blockcore software, except Blockcore Notes, which is on Chrome Web Store and give some limited statistics. This is the way, I fight tracking in corporate/enterprise setting all the time.

I'm working on different improvements and one of them is displaying zapped amount on profiles, but it appears your profile does not load any zap events. Does your LN-setup support NIP-57? Is it correct to assume that all zaps to you does not result in zap events on nostr relays?

Thanks for feedback! Yes, I did have a look at how Twitter does it, Redditt and others. I'm considering perhaps having an option to render using different logic and layouts, might just be more confusing having more options. Blockcore Notes does allow selecting an individual event and then it renders it's immediate parent. It's just the first revision of layout, got more to do =)

When that is said, it can become sluggish for really large threads as it renders everything at the moment, will be implementing more usage of virtual scrolling views in the future that will improve sluggishness for different views that currently render everything (except content like images, videos, etc.) when opened.

It's likely two different posts, the latter has an derived identifier from the post itself while the first one has a custom identifier (which should be d-tag in the event). Some clients posts to Relays that doesn't implement NIP-33 and that can cause some issues.

Shouldn't be slow, if it doesn't load, it's likely a bug and not network or app logic. I know there is an issue sometimes when initially loading the threads that it doesn't render, I'll have a look at it.

The technology itself is not, right? FireFox has announced (and perhaps already implemented?) their own certificate store into their browser, which is one step towards more decentralization. Nothing stops us from making an Web5/Nostr web browser that has built-in custom DNS servers (which could be more dynamically selected by users) and certificate authorities. Then we're off sailing on our own sea without relying on any state-dependent root certificates or DNS root authority.

With this suggestion of mine, the underlaying storage can be any infrastructure. It can support redirect for regular web hosting (which I think is an absolute requirement for adoption), but it can also do IPFS or anything else really. And the good thing, it allows individual users to migrate their storage when they need to, without destroying all historical events published on Nostr.

History tells us that the smaller states end up as the biggest. If you’re good at something, which a smaller and more agile team is compared to a large one held back by massive regulations, then you win the “race”. The problem is which kind of rules the game is rigged with, where governments (states) are not the same as a free enterprise or company.
My own view on this, anyone can keep their state if they want, as long as it doesn’t require compulsory participation. Allowing people to opt-out of any state shouldn’t be controversial or a major issue, as this will likely only be interesting to a minor group in society. And these freer communities will be part of your “checks and balances”.

It's a great solution, I also think there is room for a NIP that includes the ability of a key owner to update media locations in the future, e.g. if you move from one server to another. To reduce the link length, it should be path-based and not rely on hashes. It would require a new event that contains path-mappings for an identity and I could have many, sending content to different servers.

Blockcore Notes allows import of private key, stored encrypted with a personal password (protected by Keychain), but the key itself is not in the keychain (username is the npub). There are also two ways to handle actions using the key, right now the user need to unlock the key for every single signing. I don't know if I should implement support for "autosign for 10 minutes" or something allowing users to not use password for each signing.
Nostr Connect and NIP-26 support will arrive soon too, then I think all bases are covered? Public Key, Private Key (hex and nsec, import with copy/paste or QR code scanning), Secret Recovery Phrase (mnemonic to private key), Extension (NIP-07). I'm looking forward to doing NIP-26 support.

Added article support on Blockcore Notes, both publishing a new article and editing your existing articles. It will only submit to relays that implements NIP 33.
Currently there are no markdown formatting, just manual textbox editing. Additionally there is no support for viewing articles within Notes, except of course the editor. Use one of the blog platforms to see your article after publishing. Enjoy!

Does it make sense to allow users to use the "d" identifiers as friendly URLs to articles? So you could have "a/pubkey/my-favorite-food".
Then if I host my own article/blog site, I could configure the pubkey as some default value and posts could be available at /my-favorite-food.
I'll do that, derive the identifier from title and allow user to edit it.

I built a basic markdown blog-script that works a GitHub template repo a while back, I was considering adopting it to Nostr and have it retrieve the posts from Nostr, but when I think about it, the GitHub Actions workflow that generates HTML from markdown, should also just download the events and embed into the HTML that is pushed to the server. Users are accessing my (or anyones) posts through a specific domain name anyway.
For a more generic blogging platform for multiple users, this won't work and you need more dynamic loading. Nice blog post!

I added a setting to disable reactions, after using it for a day I find it enjoyable not seeing the likes, etc. Focuses on the quality of content and my brains ability to remember "this person is valuable to me, I value their opinion so let me read what they wrote".

How about having both Block and Mute?
If someone is muted, their posts can be hidden from following feeds and perhaps even from threads, but you might still want to follow them and have their profile easily accessible.

Added a new settings that allows you to turn off reactions on Blockcore Notes. This will save some bandwidth as the reactions will no longer be downloaded on threads.
You will still be able to give reactions to notes and reactions that happens towards you, will still be shown in the Notifications.
Hopefully this will allow you to focus even more on the amazing quality content on Nostr.

The algo wants to keeps up engaged, it's just unfortunate that people tend to get triggered by the negative madness and that the social media platforms exploits that human behavior, instead of other ways of getting us engaged. It's possible to do better, even for the traditional social media.

Main issue is that clients are signing and publishing events without users consent or notifications. As events are happening behind the scenes and not based on user action, you can get into these situations.
This inspired me to add file export and file import on Blockcore Notes. From the "People" section, you can now export to a JSON file on your local device, which can be imported later on. After import, you can choose to publish.

Thank you 😍 I've never advocated for others to sacrifice, that should be up to each and one to decide, but personally I become more willing as time goes by.
We are born free, we don't need to ask for permission to be free, but we need to protect against those who want to take our freedom away. If we have moral principles and conviction, I believe that the convictions of free people will always outperform the convictions of those who want to take our freedoms away.
Though these people (statists) are so deeply indoctrinated that they won't grasp realities until shots are fired and by then, free people tend to loose as their stockpiles of arsenal for self-defense is usually less than what the state goons have.
I think though there is hope, depending on how far this has gone in a country, that these people working for the government might realize they are not willing to sacrifice their lives for building codes and regulations.
They won't do this if each and one of us is isolated and alone in our houses, living in societies surrounded by people who want us harm. We must band together in communities and become stronger and more self-sustained. Only then, will we see a change for the positive.
Which is why I've dedicated my life to building Liberstad, a free city in Norway.
