yeah, except when it stops you from loading the very driver you just compiled the glue code during the upgrade because "oh no, nobody signed this", or when it won't load the OS because the shim was signed by the *Microsoft* 3rd party key and the vendor didn't deemed it useful to include it… Or when you try to do it the proper way but there's no way to enroll your own keys.
Sure, it doesn't stop you from throwing the machine off the window.

long ago I believed the "just a tool" rhetoric, but "Code is Law"™.
And yeah, the problem is not so much how it works intrinsically but who pushes for that, and what for, and how it is (not) properly evaluated.
Just like Secure Boot is intrinsically a good idea, but the implementation has "unforeseen" side effects of pissing people off trying to install whatever OS they want on the machine they think they own. Because Microsoft.

J'ai examiné l'appareil de plus près, déjà on a le réservoir qui manque à chaque fois sur les photos que j'ai pu voir…
Il y a aussi un patin en feutre donc les rebords devaient être enrobé de tissus, il faudra en refaire un…

I'll have to grab and store a relatively large number of ICs before the uni throws them away, and wondering about cheap / dense enough storage method for these, mostly DIPs I think.
I'm thinking about cutting IC-width strips of 6mm ESD foam, gluing them on cardboard sheets, to put the ICs on without having to plunge the leg in the foam directly (less danger from moisture), stacking that and shoving those layers into shoe or archival boxes. Thoughts?
