@nprofile…j074 one of those reminds me that you just don’t see fellas wearing button down collared shirts under long sleeve sweaters that much anymore. Also: I bet you $10 that if those illos were in color those sweaters would be camel-hair beige.

Just got an email from my time tracking app telling me it’s removing my selected tier of service and automatically placing me in a tier where I am paying $200 more a year. The only other alternative plan is one that costs $19,000 a year.
Time to go looking for a new app.

@nprofile…pfuj tying shoes is like this. I thought my mom taught me The One Way To Tie Shoes. Then I met my wife and she had a completely different way of tying her shoes. When we had kids we each taught them our own separate ways of shoe-tying. Now that they are grown up I am dying to watch them tie their shoes to see which method they went with.

I run social media for the inactive mine reclamation program in Colorado. Thanks to the @nprofile…suk4 for reporting on the program and the need to keep safeguarding the state’s incredible number of abandoned mines. And please: no matter the season, if you are hiking, biking, or skiing, please be aware of your surroundings. Stay on marked trails, and if you see an open mine opening don’t approach it! Report it to 303-866-3567 or email at [email protected]. https://coloradosun.bluelena.io/lt.php?x=4lZy~GE6KaWe7pR5y_A4VONw136nvNQjk-kvjKY3KnDOEHOs-0y.zuZw2o2njdU~kNYxZ5fHJ-HNU579y_5LwSbc1k

@nprofile…wgw9 that’s fascinating. One of my main tasks as a designer’s apprentice was running the stat camera and this looks more efficient! Although the first operation for figuring reduction and enlargements had me asking if the proportion wheel hadn’t been invented yet! That contraption is huge compared to the lil’ wheel I have in my drawer.

Down in Silverton, #Colorado on a #GraphicDesign and #Photography field trip and saw this great poster in the window of a shop for last weekend’s “Hardrockers Holidays,” where old and current miners do things like drill blast holes, lay rail track, and more. Set with #woodtype and maybe some #MoveableType, probably by the local type wizard, Fritz Klinke.

@nprofile…args I think it was a how-to video about getting a very specific part of my car door handle mechanical innards un-jammed. It was also from about ten years ago, so all hail to those forgotten folks who thought their fix was so important — and unknown — that they took the time to record a low-quality phone video of it for us to find half a generation later!

On this day of boycotting big box stores let’s remember it’s a privilege to do so, and we are doing it in part for those who literally have no other choices where they live:
I spent part of last week in a remote town where folks are limited to WalMart and chain restaurants for essentials and dining out. I think a lot of them would rather have their old family-run small businesses from 25 years ago, but corporate greed took care of that.

I had another tasty Mexican/New Mexican meal today, this time in the small SE New Mexico town of Hobbs. It’s only about five miles from the Texas border, and the woman who served me this spicy and flavorful green chile enchilada told me the chef had moved here from Denver, by way of El Paso. It’s a small world.
The restaurant, Maria Bonita Mexican Grill, was packed, had a 40-minute wait. Worth it. And not expensive, either. I lucked out for my first night here.

@nprofile…ytt6 long-time Flickr user. I had used Instagram for over a decade (!) but Flickr even longer…Pixelfed’s photo-only stream compares nicely with the pre-ad, pre-algorithm Instagram, but it’s hard to get old friends to migrate (I’ve found some lovely new ones!) I even migrated most of my IG images and captions into Pixelfed, but having two accounts (mastodon-oriented and Pixelfed-oriented) is a bit clunky. I may return to my Flickr roots someday too.

@nprofile…fw8u that is a great article and the exhibit sounds really interesting. We have a couple of Curtis photograveures from one of those editions, gifted to us from fellow photographers years ago. I keep them as a reminder of Curtis’s intent, and failings, and a reminder of the (literal and metaphorical) lens that us settlers have used to view the peoples that were already here.
And shout out to Jim Denomie! His work is amazing, & there’s a great piece by him at the DAM: https://www.denverartmuseum.org/en/object/2013.67

@nprofile…fw8u nice! that’s an excellent exercise for developing fluidity and confidence in line-work. In my life drawing class we did a countdown-style version of this: one drawing for five minutes, another for four, another at 3, etc. until we were doing one every 15 seconds. The first few short ones were brutal but eventually I think they turned out more true to the subject than the longer-timed ones.
