It feels different depending on the day. Today feels like a 7.

Near complete blackout and water shutoff in Kyiv due to attacks on energy infrastructure. Subways are not running. Massive queues for buses. Traffic jams everywhere as people try to get home. Businesses running on generators, candlelight/flashlights, or just closed.

2026-10-07 21:01:41 GMT

Scheduled long power outages for energy conservation has begun in Kyiv. Elevators and subways non-operational. A lot of stair climbing needed to get to our high floor apartment. We've got a power backup system installed so we have lights, running refrigerator, and can charge our devices, but many don't have that luxury.

Coincidentally walked by the attack site at
Національна академія наук України (Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences) today and took photos of the destruction in the aftermath.

Filled up on gas tonight. Something nearby was attacked so there was smoke in the air. Definitely feeling the anxiety amongst the customers and employees since gas stations are high value targets. We tipped the gas station attendant well.

We wanted to fill up on gas tonight since our car is at half tank and we usually do it to be prepared in case we need to escape at a moment's notice. Two gas stations that we visited in Kyiv shut down in fear of being attacked. Tomorrow is another day, I guess.

Dobrobut medical center was attacked today in Kyiv. We brought our son here one week ago for x-rays and were planning to schedule another appointment here. It's a very nice medical facility. So sad.

Kushner is gone and air raid sirens are back.

2026-09-04 18:02:59 GMT

While on my paternity leave, I've been rewriting my SatsPrice app with the help of Claude Code. The currently available (old) version of the app was written by hand in Swift with the Skip framework targeting iOS, macOS, and Android, but it proved difficult to maintain and build on. The unreleased (new) version uses Kotlin Multiplatform and targets all those platforms plus other desktop operating systems and the web. I was able to reach near feature parity at ~10x the speed with Claude Code. Just missing persisting currency preferences and I should be able to release. With the help of AI, I can likely more easily implement some of the feature requests that have piled up over the last year or so.

@nprofile…xdyf @nprofile…yryp My precise GPS location on GrapheneOS Pixel 9 Pro can't be found occasionally while I'm in Kyiv, Ukraine, rendering Google Maps, Waze, and other apps that require precise location unusable. My theory is that the Ukrainian military is jamming the signals when there's an imminent attack, which is confirmed when checking my wife's iPhone at the same time. However, there are times when there isn't an attack and my wife's iPhone can get the precise GPS location but my GrapheneOS can't.
I've tried changing different servers and sources on various location settings menus, as well as restarting my phone, without luck. Any ideas?

We're one month in. The trick to calm them that almost always works for me is holding the baby's bottom with one hand and their upper chest / neck area with the other while they lean diagonally forward, and bob them up and down.

imo using country flags to represent language is a bad practice and should never be done. Some countries speak multiple languages. Multiple countries speak the same language, some of which despise one another. I recommend looking at how device system language selectors look like. The locale name is typically written in that language, and optionally also shown in your current language.

Wisp on iOS is bad because you’re feeding Apple fanboys more drugs to addict them to staying on a closed platform and you’re making Apple more powerful… is the mental gymnastics that Apple haters go through when they make that argument. Bringing freedom technology to where users are at is the goal and that’s what you’re doing with Wisp. Users have free will to choose what they want to use, and they choose iPhone because they like it. Also, Nostr has only tens of thousands of users at best, so chill. It’s not a big deal.

I still don’t understand why key delegation isn’t a thing. Sign and publish an event with a parent key that everyone knows about that attests a child key is authorized to sign events on its behalf, and then use it in a client. If that client does something the user doesn’t want, sign and publish a revocation from the parent key. Clients need to do extra work of subscribing to these kinds though. Seems like it would absolve the need to have a separate signer app.
