As far as I can judge from my understanding of the situation on the ground in the SVO, we have already missed the opportunity for a freeze along the Line of Contact.
Therefore, the next stage of genuine negotiations will be based on the 1991 borders.
Russian society today is not psychologically ready for such an option; consequently, the authorities cannot even discuss such conditions in theory.
The chance to extricate ourselves from the war will not arise until society has matured enough to understand the inevitability of a complete withdrawal from Ukrainian territory and has come to terms with this reality.
Naturally, all of this could have been avoided a year ago had we taken a sober view of the situation. However, the top political leadership preferred its own reality, one in which it is half a step away from victory.

There’s much talking about #Russia possibly escalating into either #Ukraine, returning to Kyiv direction, or into #NATO, as absurd it sounds.
However, we thought the same in 2021-2022. The problem with Putin is in the the cage of axioms he has built for himself, by literal decades of multi-layered cognitive biases reinforced by positive feedback loops he created by kicking experts he did not like, and replacing them with yes-men.
In his own framework, Putin simply has no other choice:
the phrase “Putin is Russia, Russia is Putin” is the first axiom; objectively, war is of course a huge threat to the Russian state, but at the same time the crowning achievement of Putin’s personal career
“Putin’s power is sacred” is the second axiom, according to which Putin cannot lose… because he simply cannot
a ceasefire in any form without the lifting of sanctions would mean Russia’s slow economic death – regardless of how Putin “sells” it in the media, everyone in Russia understands this
a ceasefire involving a withdrawal from parts of the territory, which could result in a weakening of sanctions, would personally spell the end of Putin’s image
Putin cannot withdraw from territories he himself declared annexed in 2022, with tales of ‘referendums’ and ‘constitutional enshrinement’, because it was his personal decision
A major Russian offensive leading to some territorial success (e.g. the complete capture of the Donbas) – but it has been going on for a year and has only served to weaken the potential of Russian offensive forces; currently, the official promises are “the Donbas by the end of the year”, which is hardly realistic
the Russian general staff have come to terms with the fact that Putin lives in a different world and his political goals are plucked out of thin air, but they suffer no harm as they earn millions, so they maintain the fiction
the dominant narrative among the ‘siloviki’ is ‘we may have made mistakes, but we must see it through to the end’, because in the system of ‘sacred power’ built by Putin there is no room for anything else; the fact that ‘to the end’ might mean the end of Russia and/or Putin is simply not mentioned
It is mainly the military personnel close to the front line who speak of the need to withdraw from the war before a catastrophe occurs, but no one listens to them because they are there to carry out orders, not to question them
Leaving aside the physical world, if we accept for a moment the framework Putin has imposed on himself, escalation is the only way out of this situation available to him – and perhaps the only one he knows.
The only question is whether this will be an escalation towards Ukraine or towards NATO (hybrid). The former will end like Volchansk; the latter involves more unknowns due to the as yet unknown reaction of NATO and the EU, and is therefore potentially more attractive to Putin.
I do not see this as an actual threat for EU or NATO, because with the right response, that Europe is 100% able to execute, this will bring the much desired “to the end” to Putin very fast.
What I see as a much bigger threat is large countries fearing “destabilisation of Russia” more than EU losing part of its territory to another Russia-controlled blackhole, however small.

A few takeaways from this very detailed and interesting publication:
It’s very encouraging to see Polish businesses creatively planning to use renewable energy and batteries to solve local power supply issues: not ‘because of subsidies’, but simply because it makes financial sense
every new technology scaled up for mass production encounters some problems – including wind, PV and batteries; conclusion: karma always comes back to renewable energy enthusiasts who drive around #nuclear and SMR spouting rubbish arguments
technical problems can almost always be solved, but problems with the supply chain or the economics of the entire system on a large scale – not always; sometimes the economics of a given solution require not just a simple financial calculation of A-B=C but also the inclusion of external costs and benefits; this applies equally to renewables, nuclear power and SMR; manipulation usually occurs when the very same people who shout that ‘nuclear power is uneconomical’ immediately go on to shout ‘of course the state must expand the grid so that renewables are profitable’
Firefighters are explicitly talking about design recommendations intended to prevent such fires in the future – these changes entail additional costs; Conclusion: renewables are ‘dirt cheap’ only until, as a result of scaling up, rare but costly safety issues begin to emerge (e.g. in the UK since 2015 there have been around 100 fires in PV installations, mainly due to the incompetence of installers – but this is precisely one of the consequences of scaling up nationwide)
the most bizarre case I know of such incidents being exploited for negative PR was the British media coverage (The Telegraph, 2020) against PV farms in Kent, where a hypothetical battery fire was claimed to have led “to an explosion on the scale of a small atomic bomb”; Conclusion: any anti-nuclear nonsense put into circulation yesterday by Greenpeace’s ‘PR managers’ can be used today by the tabloids against renewable energy, because for both sides what counts is a catchy headline, not the facts

In this update, we are presenting a new overall estimate of Russian losses in the war: 352,000 killed soldiers. The previous one was published in the end of August 2025. In #Poland there was one interesting figure Iwo Czerniawski that was active on the left-wing scene back in 2000’s but since then largely became disillusioned, cynical and retracted himself from political life. Nonetheless, I’ve recently stumbled upon one of his few public statements made in 2022[^1] and wanted to highlight it, as it’s a textbook example of the mess that long-term exposure to #Marxism historical materialism makes of people’s brains.
There are a number of reasons why this had to happen. Russian intervention in Ukraine was inevitable. This is not a conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It is an attempt to establish a new geopolitical order, according to the experts responsible for shaping Russia’s current policy – a measures deemed essential to safeguard Russian statehood.
Let’s hold here - “measures deemed essential to safeguard Russian statehood” – which statehood exactly and “deemed essential” by whom?
“Deemed essential” by Putin in order to protect Putin’s self-perpetuating kleptocracy? That’s the only context where this statement makes sense semantically.
But what exactly laws of physics compel Russian society to live under such a system? Did anyone actually ask Russian society if they want to live under such “statehood” and “protect it”?
Well, obviously there’s no objective reasons for any of the above. This thinking where “Russia is compelled” it is solely the result of the internalisation of historical determinism, which is extremely contagious among former Marxists. In other words, they believe “Russia must” do things because that is what the “iron laws of history” dictate. And this is, of course, pseudoscientific nonsense, a kind of quasi-religious belief with no factual evidence.
In the quoted paragraph, we find plenty of these “musts”. Let me highlight the sheer absurdity of this narrative – on the one hand, Russia is the largest country in the world and Putin the most powerful ruler, and all it takes is for Putin to “raise an eyebrow for Kyiv to fall” (a direct quote from Solovyov).
And at the same time, this omnipotent Putin and this mighty Russia are constantly “having to” do something. First, he “had to” take over all state and public media; then he “had to” kill journalists; then he “had to” violate the constitution by running for a third term; then he “had to” annex Crimea, and so on. Now he has reached the stage where he “has to” put 1.5 million Russians through the meat grinder… for what exactly? To capture Pleshchiyivka in the Donetsk Oblast?
The double think of people who subscribe to this strange brand of historicism lies precisely in the fact that, on the one hand, with a certain masochistic zeal, they admire Putin’s omnipotent, extremely authoritarian system, which is not constrained by all this “democratic drivel”; and on the other hand, in the very same breath, they deny Putin any agency whatsoever, reducing him to the role of a passive pawn of some mysterious laws of history. And they switch between these entirely opposing narratives as they wish.
Well, but when it comes to double think, fans of Marxism and materialist dialectics have never had a problem. 😉

Manipulation of this “infographic” beats all records - described as “percentage of Jewish population murdered by country during #Holoacaus” but:
There was no such countries as #Poland and #Czechoslovakia (100% occupied by #Germany and #USSR since 1939) or #Ukraine (did not exist as separate entity before and after WW2) etc
Ukraine was 100% part of #USSR yet there’s separate entries (!) for both #Ukraine and Soviet Union

As part of sustaining the traditional #radiophobia in #Germany the Umweltministerium is periodically posting[^1] this scary map. Its purpose is to demonstrate that the negative effects of #Chornobyl disaster last even 40 years after it happened. The color coding for Cesium-137 content is the essence of this manipulation, because red suggests its something dramatically exceeding the norm but the scale next to it shows the highest content is ~48 kBq/m2.
Let’s now convert it into actual radiation dose ingested by a potential consumer. The calculation is conveniently provided by Germany’s own Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz[^2]
The ingestion of 80,000 becquerel caesium-137 corresponds to an exposure of about 1 millisievert for adults.
For reference, a single CT full-body scan delivers 10–30 mSv. So if you somehow consumed all mushroom completely covering 1 m2 of the “polluted” land you’d receive 0.05-0.15 of a CT scan (because the max is 58 kBq/m2 and in the example above they use 80 kBq). But the BfS example actually also conveniently refers to the actual mushroom consumption too:
The consumption of 200 grams of mushrooms with 1,000 becquerel caesium-137 per kilogram results in an exposure of 0.0025 millisievert. This is considerably less than the radiation exposure during a flight from Frankfurt to Gran Canaria. However, if adults eat such a mushroom meal each week, they will receive an additional annual radiation exposure corresponding to about nine flights from Frankfurt to Gran Canaria. Expressed in numbers it is 0.13 millisievert.

Putin’s “approval rating” has plummeted in WCIOM polls, reports The Moscow Times, falling to 65.5% – the same level as at the start of the war in 2022. Sociologist Grashchenkov comments to TMT that “society can tolerate restrictions if it sees some purpose, a timeframe and a reward; but when restrictions are compounded by a sense that one’s personal economic situation is deteriorating, alienation sets in instead of mobilisation”.

Most Central & Eastern European people get furious when they still, 30 years after fall of USSR, read Western journalists using the phrase “post-Soviet” used to describe Baltic states or Poland. Of course, the same journalists would be extremely offended if someone mentioned “post-Nazi Germany”, “post-fascist Italy” (or Spain) or “post-English USA”.

#Russia bloggers describe the reality of #Tuapse, a seaside town on the coast of Black Sea, which also happens to host a large oil depot that is now burning for the fourth day in row.[^1]
The aftermath of the bombing of Tuapse is simply horrific. This is no exaggeration, nor is it ‘dramatic language’ – it is simply a statement of fact. It is not really that emotional, when you think about it. In essence, what is happening there now is like Hiroshima, only without the radiation. Due to the massive fire at the oil terminals, ‘oil rain’ has been falling on the city and surrounding areas since yesterday, killing flora and fauna. The land is poisoned.
In another post he writes[^2]
The town of Tuapse no longer exists. It has been destroyed. That is a fact. The soil there is poisoned, the water is poisoned, the air is poisoned. Right now, black rain is falling there, just like in Hiroshima – water mixed with oil soot. It is killing the vegetation, the insects and the birds. As for the people, the consequences are equally predictable.
Russia could have easily stopped this mutual exchange of long-range aerial attacks. Of course, the easiest way was not to start the invasion on Ukraine in 2022. But even since then Ukraine several times proposed, including US mediation, a limited ceasefire specifically on long-range attacks against energy infrastructure. Russia always rejected this - initially because Ukraine “had no cards”, meaning it had no technical means to respond, but for at least at year it has. So Ukraine responds, and Russians are clearly experiencing it. In military doctrine it’s called “moving the military activities to the attacker’s territory” to impose the cost of invasion on them, rather than the attacked.
But you would be mistaken if you expected that - after five years of merciless pounding of Ukraine towns, hospitals and power stations with rockets and bombs accompanied with explicit statements that their purpose is to make the towns “unlivable” - the Russian bloggers would be calling to stop this madness. Quite the opposite, the same “Shakespeare”[^1] ends his apocalyptic description with the following appeal:
Who will be held accountable, and how, for the fact that since 2022 they’ve been stringing Ukraine along, telling us we’re ‘’good boys’, only to end up turning Tuapse into a second Hiroshima?
What he refers to is a popular Russian TV narrative that “we haven’t started yet” and that “Russia is moving so slow because it spares civilians”.
What he calls for is to increase the intensity of attacks on Ukrainian population, but there’s just one problem - there’s no more terror they can impose, Russians are already at their peak performance, and possibly passed the peak last winter, which they very much hoped would “break Ukraine’s back” - but it didn’t.

In a recent discussion with some Western “socialists” the usual incendiary topic of “who owns Eastern Europe” arose. The “socialist” crowd is unfortunately plagued by Soviet and now Russian narratives, which are outright distortion of history on a scale you can’t imagine. It’s literally as if someone seriously argued “England owns USA because people there speak English” in 2026 and that was repeated by respected authors on World Socialist Website and the likes.
The territory of today’s #Ukraine was originally called Rus’ (Ruthenia), with the same language, religion and culture as today’s Ukraine. It was a powerful player already in 10-11th century, when Moscow did not even exist as a place. As a matter of fact, Rus’ was one of the largest states in Europe back then. The name “Ukraine” appears in written sources in 12th century for the first time, but when Ruthenian ambassadors visited Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth parliament in 16th century they were still described as “Rus’ ambassadors”, so Rus/Ruthenia was the still mainstream name and it still referred to what we today know as Ukraine.
In 13th century the north-eastern part of Rus’ was invaded by Mongols and was occupied by them until 15th. The vassal state of Mongols on Slavic lands was called “Muscovia” and heavily influenced by Mongol culture and language. That’s when written sources started using the term “Russia” to describe Muscovia. To distinguish between these two, modern historians started referring to the original Rus’ as “Kievan Rus”.
And here’s the trick: Moscow simply declared itself the sole successor of ‘Rus’, and claimed that the original Rus, aka Ukraine, never existed. Simple!
Nowadays, Russian historians no longer use the term ‘Kievan Rus’’ at all, instead simply referring to the ‘pre-Mongol period’, as any references to Rus’ are inconvenient for them. Yet ironically, old Orthodox Church books are written in an archaic language that is very similar to modern Ukrainian, but not modern Russian. There are many such details that betray the true origins; for example, consider how the letters G and H are written and pronounced.
As for cultural differences, Muscovia, aka Russia, is dominated by a collective society in which the concept of individual rights or freedoms does not exist. This is why it adopted totalitarian Bolshevism, and today, Putinism, with such enthusiasm. For the Western Slavs, including the original Ruthenians, Ukrainians and Poles, personal freedoms and rights are a fundamental part of the social structure.
Russians deeply despise this “anarchy”, which also rejects the concept of sacred authority of the leader, as seen by the cult of personality that overtook every single implementation of the Russian state. And this is the primary point of conflict between Moscow and Ukraine today, not the language spoken, Nuland or whatever other nonsense you read on “socialist” forums.

Once again, you have no clue about history of Eastern Europe, you don’t even know how “kings” are called there (not “kings”).

To co nazywasz “prawacką propagandą” w Europie, czyli ksenofobia, rasizm czy mizoginia to zaledwie nędzne niedobitki tego, co w wielu krajach poza Europą stanowi podstawę systemów etycznych rządzących całymi społeczeństwami. W Polsce masz Brauna czy Ziemkiewicza, którzy uchodzą za skrajnych ksenofobów - w wielu krajach całe rządy czy rady religijne (np. IGRC, rosyjska cerkiew prawosławna) składają się wyłącznie z takich Braunów i Ziemkiewiczów, którzy nie hamują się w ogóle jak ci nasi w głoszeniu poglądów otwarcie ludobójczych.
W świecie w sensie statystycznym nadal dominuje moralność plemienna, a koncepcje równości ludzi czy prawa powszechnego nie są uznawane. Wiele systemów etycznych religijnych i plemiennych jest skrajnie mizoginiczna i ksenofobiczna, wobec przedstawicieli innych ras, plemion czy narodów.
Dokładnie na tej podstawie dochodzi do regularnych egzekucji w krajach takich jak Iran, Gaza i inne niektóre kraje arabskie za “zbrodnie” takie jak noszenie “nieskromnej odzieży” przez kobiety, podejrzenie związków pozamałżeńskich (ale tylko wobec kobiet) czy homoseksualizm. Inne zbrodnie karane śmiercią to apostazja czyli porzucenie dominującej na danym terenie religii, w podobny sposób muzułmanie odłamu szyickiego uznają za innowierców i na odwrót. Egzekucje te są dokonywane publicznie, więc teza, że to “prawacka propaganda” to zwyczajne wyparcie.
W niektórych krajach afrykańskich rozpowszechnione jest tzw obrzezanie kobiet czyli okaleczanie ich narządów rodnych. Mieszkam w UK i na szczeblu rządowym jest to dyskutowane jako realny problem społeczny bo chociaż okaleczanie takie jest zabronione, to rodziny wywodzące się z tych kultur zabierają córki do swoich krajów pochodzenia i dokonują tych okaleczeń tam na miejscu. To też jest nielegalne, ale panuje wokół tej praktyki zmowa milczenia… bo kultura plemienna jest silniejsza od prawa. Rodziny z Afryki tak długo nękają krewnych w UK za pomocą presji psychologicznej, aż te w końcu zgodzą się “uratować” ich córki przed “niemoralnością”.
A obrona tego typu archaicznych systemów etycznych pod pozorem “tolerancji” lub “wielokulturowości” to absurd i całkowite zaprzeczenie wartości lewicowych. Nie można równocześnie potępiać neonazisty europejskiego - i słusznie, skoro ma poglądy nazistowskie - r równocześnie usprawiedliwiać neonazisty np. arabskiego - “bo jest z innej kultury”, “bo jest biedny”, “bo tak go wychowali” itd. Jednym z fundamentów europejskiej kultury jest uniwersalizm prawny to znaczy stosowanie tych samych kryteriów etycznych wobec wszystkich, niezależnie od pochodzenia - a część lewicy wykazuje tutaj jakąś absurdalną aberrację, wprowadzając kryterium plemienne - jedni mogą, inni nie.
Wracając zatem do polityki migracyjnej - tak, państwa europejskie mają pełne prawo wpuszczać na swoje terytorium wyłącznie osoby, które w jasny sposób zadeklarują, że znają i będą przestrzegać co najmniej fundamentalnych zasad, wyrażonych w Europejskiej Karcie Praw Człowieka, oraz przepisów krajowych. A taką możliwość z automatu wyłącza migracja nielegalna.
Nie ma miejsca w Europie dla ludzi, którzy w sposób otwarty negują fundamenty Unii Europejskiej takie jak prawa człowieka czy równość ludzi wobec prawa. Wystarczy nam już naszych własnych ksenofobów z “Konfederacji” i “KKP”, których deportować nigdzie nie można. W kontekście UK jednak istnieje poważny problem radykalnych islamskich kleryków, którzy dosłownie wzywali do mordowania innowierców, za co byli skazywani na więzienie lub deportowani, jeśli była taka możliwość prawna. Do tej kategorii należą również legalni i nielegalni imigranci z Gruzji, Rosji, Białorusi czy Ukrainy, którzy po 2022 roku są deportowani z Polski za przestępstwa pospolite - handel narkotykami, napady, kradzieże, oszustwa internetowe itd, ale to akurat nie budzi szczególnych kontrowersji nawet na lewicy, i słusznie.
Podsumowując, wykazywana przez część europejskiej skrajnej lewicy obłuda przejawiająca się w absurdalnej pobłażliwości wobec ksenofobicznych poglądów jest zwyczajnie samobójcza i jest moim zdaniem główną przyczyną, dla której lewica europejska - ku mojemu wielkiemu ubolewaniu - utraciła związek ze swoją podstawową bazą wyborczą.
Głoszenie haseł lewicowych, które mają być wiążące dla wszystkich… za wyjątkiem osób, głoszących poglądy skrajnie ksenofobiczne tylko dlatego, że “przybyły z zewnątrz” to ten poziom obłudy i absurdu, który powoduje, że wyborca zaczyna się zastanawiać co właściwie te partie chcą osiągnąć. Wróćcie do korzeni lewicowości, to ten kontakt z wyborcami odzyskacie.

There’s two ways of doing this:
person → biometry → random AgeCheck company in Cyprus → porn website
person → PESEL → 18+ → porn website
In the first case your full biometry ends up with a commercial provider that does with it whatever it wants.
In the first case PESEL issues you with a signed certificate attribute 18+ not bound with your identity or biometry, and the service provider must accept it.

Oczywiście, i taki człowiek ucieka, tam gdzie może a kraj docelowy albo go wpuszcza albo nie. Większość ludzi uciekając od wojny wybiera najbliższy kraj gdzie tej wojny nie ma, stąd tysiące uchodźców w Jordanii, Turcji i innych krajach regionu. Część składa wnioski azylowe lub wizy o pracę, które UE, w tym Polska wydaje tysiącami ze względu na brak siły roboczej.
A niewielki odsetek woli wydać tysiące euro na haracz dla arabskich i rosyjskich przemytników, którzy wysyłają ich jak towar ryzykownym szlakiem morskim albo przez Bałkany lub Białoruś.
Natomiast państwa leżące na tych szlakach nie mają żadnego obowiązku prawnego ani moralnego wpuszczać ludzi, którzy swoją próbę zamieszkania w nich rozpoczynają od agresywnego szturmowania granicy, na wejściu dowodząc tym samym swojego stosunku do prawa tych krajów.
Dlatego tak szkodliwa była polityka “Wir schaffen das” Merkel z 2015 roku bo zapewniła stałą podaż klientów rosyjskim i białoruskim przemytnikom, który na dodatek wykorzystali to jako broń hybrydową dla destabilizacji UE.
Polityka sprzedana niby jako lewicowa i humanitarna, faktycznie napędziła tylko liczbę ofiar bezwzględnej mafii białoruskiego KGB i rosyjskiego FSB, które zaczęły puszczać ten potok ludzi - którzy najpierw przylatywali do nich specjalnie uruchomionymi rejsami turystycznymi - każdym dostępnym szlakiem, bo na każdy kliencie zarabiali tysiące euro a do tego przerzucali koszty dalszego ich utrzymania na UE.
Ze strony Merkel była to skrajna bezmyślność, podobnie jak cała reszta jej polityki podlizywania się Rosji, za co wyborcy “nagrodzili” ją wzrostem głosów na AfD. Co zrobiła w odpowiedzi np Finlandia? Momentalnie zamknęła wszystkie granice z Rosją… i krótkotrwały potok “uchodźców” na rowerach momentalnie się skończył. Polska i kraje bałtyckie zrobiły to samo chociaż zajęło to o wiele więcej czasu ze względu na o wiele trudniejszy teren. Wszystkie te kraje doskonale zdawały sobie sprawę z charakteru tej “migracji” i reagowały poprawnie. Tylko niewielkie grupy odklejonych w stylu tych z Hajnówki wspólpracowały dobrowolnie z przemytnikami, kompromitując wszystko co można nazwać wartościami lewicowymi.
W Niemczech dopiero Merz wprowadził kontrolę na granicach… Polski, cofając migrantów, którym nielegalnie udało się dostać z Białorusi. W rezultacie wzrost poparcia dla AfD praktycznie się zatrzymał. A ci klienci przemytników, którzy nie przeszli granicy są teraz problemem kraju do którego dobrowolnie i na zasadach komercyjnych przylecieli samolotem, czyli Białorusi, a nie Polski czy Niemiec.

Editor in chief of #Russia Novaya Gazeta Europe on exile posted a lengthy comment on the Russian “historic exhibition” at the #Katyn massacre memorial, about which I wrote a week ago:
The concept of ‘Spanish shame’ is widely known, but today I am experiencing ‘Medinsky’s shame’. It is a phenomenon that is difficult to define, where impostors representing your country commit unimaginable acts of villainy on a historic scale in order to justify their claim to power.
The Russian Military-Historical Society (RMHS) has sent a new delegation to the Katyn memorial complex, the site of the mass execution of Polish prisoners of war by NKVD officers. The new leadership is not sitting idly by and has already announced an exhibition entitled ‘Ten Centuries of Polish Russophobia’, which will take place right next to the graves of the murdered Poles.
Looking back over the atrocities committed by the Russian authorities in recent years, it is difficult to immediately think of an equivalent. This is not direct military aggression, nor is it the state’s extermination of its own citizens – here we are talking about something perhaps even more shameful.
Together with #Hitler, the Soviet authorities partitioned #Poland, deported and killed countless people, and in 1940 shot Polish prisoners of war. Afterwards, for decades, they pretended they had nothing to do with it, claiming that Hitler’s punitive forces were supposedly responsible for the shootings.
Rumour has it that the mighty Soviet Union behaved like a pathetic drunkard who hides his escapades from acquaintances because he is ashamed and afraid to admit to them. It was only towards the end of Gorbachev’s perestroika that they had the conscience to make a confession, when TASS published a statement to that effect in 1990. This was a step towards reconciliation with the Polish people, which is impossible without honesty. The USSR joined Alcoholics Anonymous fifty years after the deed was done.
In 2000, a memorial complex was opened at the site of the crime in the Smolensk region, and since then a wealth of archival documents has been published. And now, after numerous attempts to pretend that nothing had happened, the collective shame has spoken out loud and clear.
It turns out that ten centuries of Polish Russophobia are to blame for everything! It turns out that it wasn’t the #USSR that formed an alliance with Hitler to destroy Poland, and it wasn’t the #NKVD that committed war crimes, but simply that Poles are such innate Russophobes.
There is a huge mutual interest among intellectuals in Poland and Russia; take, for example, the figure of Adam Michnik, who published a joint book of conversations with Alexei Navalny. Prawdziwość tezy o tym, że “lewica będzie po stronie migrantów, albo nie będzie jej wcale” można empirycznie prześledzić po wynikach lewicy w Polsce oraz niemieckiej lewicy po 11 latach od “Wir schaffen das” Merkel, oraz wynikach partii prawicowych takich jak AfD czy Konfederacja.
Sytuacja jest wielowymiarowa bo ludzie mieszkający w kraju przyjmującym też, co może być zaskoczeniem, też mają pewne prawa. Podstawowe założenie demokracji reprezentatywnej jest takie, że partie są przez wyborców wybierane do reprezentacji ich interesów, a nie osób trzecich. Surrealizm polskiej polityki polega na tym, że do tych tradycyjnych wyborców lewicy odwołują się partie centroprawicowe takiej jak PiS, a polska lewica jest głównie kanapowo-kawiorowa i odwołuje się do wyborcy, który ma właściwie wszystko więc zaczyna wymyślać problemy lub znajdować sobie grupy, które jego zdaniem wymagają pomocy bardziej niż miejscowi, których z natury nie lubi bo są często prostakami. Stąd właśnie takie a nie inne wyniki lewicy w Polsce…

I to na tej grupie z jakiegoś absurdalnego powodu najbardziej skupia się uwaga polskiej lewicy - i mowa o grupie, z której w ciągu roku do Polski przedostaje się może kilkaset osób i to zwykle takich, na których wpuszczeniu do kraju powinno nam zależeć jak najmniej bo są szkoleni przez KGB do szturmowania granicy, włącznie z zabójstwem polskiego strażnika granicznego.

I might forget to check it tomorrow, but tomorrow the figure is likely to hit 200,000 #Russia soldiers killed in #Ukraine, identified by name and registered by the ‘Goriushko’ channel.
Mediazona and the BBC reported the same figure several weeks ago, but both groups use slightly different counting methods, so this can be interpreted to mean that, with 99% certainty, the number of Russian KIA has exceeded 200,000.
And this is the lower limit of the range, which does not include the missing in action (MIA), and so usually also dead but unregistered, because, for example, a commander continues to embezzle their pay.
The upper limit is estimated at around 300–400,000. Added to this are the seriously wounded, which brings the total number of ‘irrecoverable’ losses on the Russian side to around 1.2 million, but this number should be only considered as a range of magnitude due to high uncertainty of the estimates.

Nie wiem skąd to się bierze… W tym konkretnym przypadku podejrzewam połączenie trybalizmu i zwykłej ignorancji w zakresie faktycznych celów i metod Hamasu. Ewentualnie naiwne przekonanie, że “oni tak tylko mówią” (popularne dla odmiany na części prawicy w stosunku do Rosjan) albo, że “oni się zmienią”.
Do tego dochodzi konformizm współczesnej lewicy, w której emocje i chroniczne poczucie winy zastąpiły jakąkolwiek debatę. To jest w sumie zabawne bo przecież nawet bolszewicy jeszcze na początku XX wieku toczyli zażarte spory ideologiczne, dopiero potem pojawiła się autocenzura i “towarzysz chyba nie podważa żelaznych praw Marksa i Lenina?”

On 10 April, the anniversary of #Katyn massacre, #Russia opened a historical exhibition titled “10 centuries of Polish Russophobia”. Katyń massacre is where in April-May 1940 NKVD executed 20’000 Polish citizens taken prisoners in 1939 when it invaded Poland jointly with Nazi Germany. USSR consistently denied the massacre until 1991 when it shared original NKVD documents and orders of the massacre, along with the lists of executed.
On the photo below you can see a curious example of what, according to modern Russian “historians”, constitutes “Russophobia” - Polish president Duda hugging Ukraine president Zelenskyy in 2022.
P.S. Russia did not even exist “10 centuries” ago - Poland didn’t really have a target of its alleged phobia until ~400 years later.

Many in the West have called it Putin’s forever war. Varoufakis flips it and blames Russia’s ongoing all-out invasion on Europe. “Forever war” is repeated, but Varoufakis doesn’t state who started it anywhere in the article.
He does mention “war’s commencement,” as if it’s a natural disaster that “commences” on its own.
Varoufakis avoids using the word “occupied” for Ukrainian lands throughout. The Donbas and “other territories” are “disputed” and “under Russian control”.
Crimea — illegally annexed in 2014 — is not mentioned once in the entire article. There is no mention of the ICC warrant against Putin, either. Or Russian war crimes.
Yet Varoufakis says that “all war refugees will have the right to return to their pre-2014 homes.” Not 1991, when Ukraine declared independence. No, 2014, when Russia illegally annexed Crimea.
Varoufakis also uses the Good Friday Agreement as a possible model. Except the agreement wasn’t signed while one country was bombing another and kidnapping its children.
Finally, Varoufakis says he visited Moscow last week for an “investment conference” and describes people in attendance as “Russian civil society.” The Russian civil society has been systematically dismantled since February 2022.
Oh, and he said that in Moscow, he also danced for peace. Yet now back home, he is advocating for what Russia wants and for what would effectively represent Ukraine’s capitulation, despite his pre-emptive protestations.

For the last few days there’s a massive “let me explain slowly” dick contest unrolling on Twitter with hundreds of “patriotic Americans” making categorical statements like “don’t even expect we will help you when you need us” because, apparently, “Europe refused to help USA in Iran”. One expert uses even more absurd argument - “you’re not dealing with a man [Trump], you’re dealing with the authority of the United States of America”.
The mistake they’re making is that regardless of any future Trump’s decisions nobody is going to even ask them, precisely because that’s the core of Trump’s new management style.
Do you remember the Congress debate or invocation of Articles 4-5 of the North Atlantic Treaty prior to the “ the authority of the United States of America” entering the war in Iran?
Neither do I, because none of the mechanisms designed to ensure a democratic state based on rule of law only enters wars for a good reason were used here.
That’s the very essence of my criticism of the war, regardless of how evil IGRC is objectively - Trump basically did precisely what Putin did in 2022: he the whole country to a war without asking anyone.
As it comes to Putin, almost all experts agree that it was a strategic mistake but the very point of Putin’s and Trump’s style of management is removing experts from the decision process and replacing them with sentiments and feelings. And Trump seems to love Putin’s decisiveness, even if he’s decisively making absolutely moronic decisions. Both seem to honestly believe you can cover up literally any mistake with enough talking and hand waving.
As I said, the fundamental fallacy of the “patriotic Americans” threatening “we won’t help Europe” is that nobody is going to ask them.
If Trump decides he sends US troops to Ukraine… no, not to help them but to gift it to Putin, nobody is going to ask the Americans - Trump will just do it.
Same if Trump decides he gives Taiwan to China.
If Trump decides to sell the key US strategic assets to Russian cronies because they offer him a multi-billion dollar kick back, he will just do it… and blame “leftists”, “gay Europe”, “Ukraine” or whoever else crosses his mind at that moment. And some people in the US will still buy it, even if they lose jobs or are robbed of their property - because that’s precisely the business model of Russian cronies.
That’s the main problem with Trump’s style of management - he reverted a century of of US state-building based on rule of law back into one man’s “I feel that’s what we should do” decision only because he liked the decisiveness that Putin has. Whether they’re both making good or bad decisions doesn’t matter, what matter is that they’re making them decisively.
P.S. when I speak of “patriotic Americans” I specifically use double quotes to differentiate between the people infected with Trump’s tribal morality and Americans who actually believe in the values of the United States Constitution.

#Russia war correspondent Andrei Medvedev quotes two private letters from his readers, who complain that the Russian authorities are “doing everything they can to stifle patriotic fervour among the people”. The first complains that “in 2022 I was ready for anything; today I’d think twice… . The worst thing is that no one is trying to explain (…) what is happening and where we are heading‘. The second writes, ’I will stay in the country, but my son is 20; he used to be a fervent supporter of ‘faith, tsar and fatherland’, decked out in eagles and tricolours, and now he is extremely disillusioned”.
The funniest thing is that the latter were disappointed not so much by the defeats at the front but above all by the Russian authorities’ decisions on domestic policy – that is, “blockades, restrictions on Telegram, etc.” – but also by tax hikes, including mainly the “utilsbor” or car tax, which has a tangible impact on owners of imported cars. Russians don’t particularly care about what’s happening abroad, but if the war starts to affect them directly, public discontent grows.
Will there be protests? It doesn’t really matter, because protests in Russia do not translate in any way into legislative action (see the recent protests against cattle slaughter in Siberia), as the legislature does as it pleases because that is how the architecture of the Russian ‘vertical of power’ (lit. ‘power vertical’) was designed. However, as the Russian anthropologist Arkhipova noted at the start of the war, a key feature of Russian society is group conformism – that is, as long as the majority of people do nothing, the rest will also remain passive. At the same time, however, in conditions of growing social discontent, sooner or later this will end in an outburst which, thanks to that very same conformism, could quickly spread across the whole country.

OOXML is registered as ISO/IEC 29500 since 2008, the same as ODF which is ISO/IEC 26300. I’m not supporter of Microsoft in any form and I’m aware of their lobbying going well beyond standardisation, but let’s stick to the facts.

Yet, nuclear power stations are the only reason why #Ukraine power grid works after #Russia has annihilated hydro power plants, coal and gas power plants, and stole huge PV farms in Kherson oblast. Nuclear power plants, which Russians did not dare to destroy - and portable petrol generators, which kind of do count as distributed power generation. That’s the real world versus crypto nerd’s imagination 😄
And as it comes to PV - yes, you can’t “blow up the sun” but 1) a single country - China - currently controls[^1] 85% of the whole PV supply chain, 2) panels are easily damaged by natural (hailstorm, wind) and human factors (cluster munitions, fire) plus they depend on inverters which can be hacked remotely[^2]

I don’t know about today, but back in 2010’s when Poland was legislating these standards for e-government I had a detailed look at ODF & OOXML specifications. Ironically OOXML specification was much more complete, had more exampled, details etc. Both were ISO standards and freely licensed, but on the specification level OOXML seemed more mature.

#Russia “Max” messenger is being pushed primarily as a more secure alternative to messengers such as WhatsApp and Telegram, which are plagued by scam calls and messages.
However, the Russian “Bumaga” project checked that all the scams that worked on the “Western messengers” also work very well on “Max” - plus some more, previously unknown. “Max” closely integrates with GosUslugi, the Russian e-government portal, which was advertised as one of the additional security features, but in reality it has zero impact on scam prevention and instead only creates new attack vectors. In theory, opening a “Max” account requires a phone number from Russia or other former USSR country, but scammers buy them - as everything in Russia - easily on darknet or hire “droppers”, regular people who sell them their registered “Max” accounts. Russian scam calls are especially effective because the scammers usually know plenty of personal details, financial history and other sensitive data about their victims which they also… buy on the darknet, where it’s being sold by government officials and employees of large financial or telecommunications companies.

Two days ago #Russia military channel “Voennyi osvedomitel” published a map[^1] (picture 1) of alleged #Ukraine drone routes over Baltic states based on three drones that fell down in #Lithuania, #Latvia and #Estonia likely as result of electronic jamming in Russia or Belarus. They published the map speculating why Russian air defenses failed so miserably in this case (picture 2) and not even trying to explain how the swarm of drones could fly for three days over #Poland without being noticed - because their original post was exclusively part of nerd speculations about Russian air defenses.
The map has been however promptly picked up by various Russian and Western pro-Russian accounts and reposted as an authoritative map of “how Ukrainian drones flew under #NATO protection”, “Ukraine is pulling us into the war” etc (picture 3).
Eventually an #OSINT analyst Drone Bomber took these maps and simply compared them against Russia’s own air alerts announced in the regions where the drones actually flew through (picture 4 and subsequent ones). The red line is the speculative “NATO route” which has no factual confirmation apart from three (!) drones that fell next to the Belarus/Russia border due to electronic jamming. The blue line is the route implied by the Russian air alerts.

In 2023 Elbit and LPP announced creation of “center of excellence of support of UAV manufacturing, lifecycle and training”. That means technical support, possibly call centers or something like that, not manufacturing.
Per your logic, the next step of GRU-inspired “Palestine supporters” would be to start killing Czech employees working at LPP, wouldn’t it?

Also, I cannot but highlight this fantastic fallacy in defense of the most absurd decision of the German Energiewende - keeping coal-powered power plants in favour of nuclear power plants. Yes, from climate perspective this is absurd if not outright denialist, but a bit of dialectics comes to the rescue:
Now, ideally Germany would phase out coal plants before nuclear plants — coal plants are far more deadly by any measure, and obviously more carbon-intensive. That’s going to be a problem, though:
The stock of newer hard and brown coal power plants — i.e., those brought on line or thoroughly refitted since 1990 — amounts to 15.6 GW. In addition, new hard and brown coal power plants with a total capacity of 11.4 GW are currently under construction. This already surpasses the forecast base load needed in 2020.

Funny thing about #Germany #nuclear phase-out is that in 2012 its supporters claimed that “baseload generation is incompatible with renewables”. The first chart comes from [^1], a 2012 article using “common-sense” to explain why they have to get rid of nuclear because Germany will no longer need baseload generation. The chart shows the “archaic” way of generating electricity with the static lines for nuclear and lignite (brown coal) generation, and variable part provided by hard coal and natural gas.
It must have radically changed since, did it? Let’s see - the second chart comes from last week (March 2026) and shows… exactly the same thick ( ~8 GW) static baseload generation using brown coal and biomass (green stripe at the bottom) 😄
So let’s see what changed - the third chart shows a week from 2014, when nuclear power was still operating in Germany but share of renewables had significantly increased. Nuclear is the red stripe ~11 GW wide, brown coal is 16 GW.
The only thing that changed is that nuclear has disappeared, but baseload based on brown coal, the dirtiest possible fuel, has remained in place. So much about the fancy 2012 “common sense” arguments about baseload being “archaic”.
Germany could have replaced all brown coal baseload with nuclear power generation at 5.6 gCO2eq/kWh, but it preferred brown coal baseload generation at 1000 gCO2eq/kWh claiming to be the EU champion in climate protection 😄
Also, the lesson from the 2012 article is that any such “common sense” predictions using future tense can be complete and utter bullshit even if they sound convincing at that specific moment of history.

#CzechRepublic police arrested two morons posing as pro-Palestine “Earthquake Foundation” who burned LPP factory producing drones for #Ukraine. Another arrest was also made in Warsaw #Poland in relation to this case.
The group was previously unknown, their website was set up a week ago and they claimed the reason for the attack is LPP “producing weapons for Israel”. The attack was also quite professionally planned and executed.
However, LPP never produced any drones or other weapons fro Israel which suggests the saboteurs were misled by #Russia special services who have a history of such operations in EU, including blowing up a whole ammunition depot in 2014. The attack on LPP did not interrupt drone production, which was done in another compound, but it did impact manufacturing of optical
In any case, the detained morons are now facing up to 20 years in prison for terrorism charges. Whatever Russians promised them - evacuation or safety - they dumped them as always.

#Hungary Constitution Protection Agency (AH) ordered searches at two Tisa opposition party offices under the pretext of child porn materials, which were reported anonymously to a police hot line. AH is not usually investigating regular crimes like this, yet in this case it has stepped out of its usual role and prioritized these searches, which found… nothing. Both suspects reported however happened to be Tisa’s IT administrators and internal audit on their computers indicated traces of previous hacking attempts, possibly with the intent of planting the child porn or expanding access into Tisa’s corporate network, which this time failed.
The electoral battle in Hungary has now reached dog-eat-dog stage, where Orban’s government is actively using the invited Russian SVR specialists without much hesitation and not really hiding it. This very much resembles the 2016 DNC hacking and France’s “Macron Leaks”, except now we don’t have any Assange & Wikileaks to vouch for the Russians.

I think the main problem - for Russian Internet users - is a complete paradigm shift in Roskomnadzor way of blocking traffic. Back in 2016-2018 when they tried to block Telegram they used a classic “fail open” logic by blocking Telegram point of presence IPs and domain names… because that was cheap and quick. And also easy to bypass, which is why they failed miserably. This approach didn’t also block VPNs.
Then next step was to employ IPS (“TSPU” in their jargon) which was much more expensive and but probably allowed to detect e.g. MTProto, Wireguard and OpenVPN traffic rather than just specific IPs and domains. But still, if you used one of many VPN overlay and obfuscation protocols, you could sneak throuh.
Right now their target approach seems to be fail close, or the “Internet whitelist”, that is all traffic is blocked except for whitelisted IPs and domains such as gov.ru, Yandex etc. And here it will be very difficult to built bypass gateways, because anyone who does that will be exposing their infrastructure in a hostile environment where the government will know precisely who they are.

From my days of travelling to the Russian #Caucasus, I’ve got quite a few friends there – one of them is a highlander and he’s fine, whilst the other used to work for RIA (Russian state news agency).
I messaged the first one on Telegram, but the message isn’t getting through and I don’t know if he’s up in the mountains or if the Roskomnadzor is already blocking it. So I ask the other one, who spends most of his time in the lowlands, whether Telegram works there without a VPN. And here I get this reply that sounded like read from an official government statement 😂
It depends – sometimes it’s needed, and sometimes it isn’t. On the other hand, the number of cybercrimes and scams on social media has plummeted since communication restrictions were introduced. Everything has its pros and cons.
I gather he’s probably still working at RIA 😂 Let me emphasise – it was the sort of question that calls for a yes or no answer.
If they cut off the internet for them altogether, he’ll probably send me a letter by post giving a detailed explanation of why life without the Internet has “certain disadvantages, but also advantages”.

One of the most sadistic #Russia military channels “From Mariupol to Carpathia”, one that invented and continuously promotes #Kherson “human safari” in their videos, has just posted a rather grim update about the situation on their zone of responsibility. I cannot but recall, that only a few months ago the same channel had been actively promoting an idea of Russian landing in Kherson (which never happened)…
The enemy is taking steps to establish small assault groups on our bank. In the area of the Konka River bridge, ‘Waiter’ drones are on constant patrol, whilst in the Nairi area and the waters of the Dnieper River, relay drones are in the sky, enabling the enemy to operate 24/7 in the settlement of Aleshky and on the roads of this conurbation.
The enemy is slowly but surely shifting the initiative in this sector of the Kherson front in its favour. The loss of control over Aleshky and the transport hubs R-58 and R-57 automatically raises the question of a threat to the settlement of Hola Prystan, with the prospect of cutting off the western part of the Kherson region, in particular K. Kosa. The situation in Hola Prystan is similar. The enemy holds the initiative in the air.
The overall picture in the Kherson sector within the Red Zone on the left bank requires very close attention. The enemy has begun to actively concentrate forces in Kherson and the western and north-western sections of the suburbs. The main fortifications along the Mykolaiv-Kherson and Snigirevka-Kherson axes are ready.
In order to divert attention from the Zaporizhzhia sector and improve its negotiating position, the enemy may be preparing offensive operations in our sector. We do not venture to predict the consequences of a successful outcome, but for the South of the Russian Federation in the SVO, this would be a disaster.

Overall, I think #Putin’s problems are merely a symptom of something much bigger – we are currently witnessing a convergence of some of the world’s political systems towards chaotic behaviour.
Putin, Trump and the European (including Polish) right-wing parties are making moves that are absurd from the perspective of their countries’ interests and contrary to the political systems they profess to uphold. The absurdity is, however, only apparent, because their actions are driven by forces far more powerful than politics – namely, the personal networks of deals and dependencies they have built up over the years, initially only ‘tactically’, to gain a ‘momentary political advantage’, ‘for a just cause’ and ‘for a short while’.
Now, however, the personal obligations and these hidden debts incurred by each of them towards various powerful interest groups have taken control of their decision-making process, plunging them into a spiral of decisions, every one of which is wrong, because the interests of these groups are by no means consistent with one another.
On top of this come systemic cognitive biases and all manner of other psychological phenomena, which only become apparent once we manage to ‘identify the leaders’ – for one of the hallmarks of impersonal democracy is precisely the systemic elimination of these cognitive biases, which are typical of systems based on specific individuals. There is no point in looking for any logic here or constructing ‘5D chess’ scenarios.
Putin prolonging a war which he is not only failing to win but actually seems to have fallen into some sort of catatonia, making one worse decision after another.
Americans electing Trump only for his approval rating to plummet to 30% after a year… This same President Trump threatens Iceland, instigates trade wars and nearly triggers a civil war in the US, then plays on the EU’s disintegration, tolerating Putin and supporting Orbán… and then starting a war with Iran. This is a fascinating example of an agent of chaos, taken almost straight from the novel ‘Illuminatus!’ (who remembers it?).
President Nawrocki and the DSA, cryptocurrency and SAFE vetoes, which are suicidal for Polish interests. The Polish right publicly supporting the pro-Putin and homophobic Orbán, side by side with the German revisionist Alice Weidel, who lives in a same-sex relationship – all these are fascinating symptoms of a global political system entering a chaotic phase.
And the more the ‘system fails’ (though it is no longer a system at all, but merely personal cliques), the more societies panic and instinctively… seek ‘strong leaders’. And here appears a powerful feedback loops, see above about the cognitive biases.
The consequences of this process are unpredictable precisely because the actions of its actors are not guided by any ideologies or rational considerations, but by forces hidden for decades beneath the surface of global politics, previously suppressed by the system.
Rationalism and the rule of law are just one of many ways of organising human societies – they yield the best results, but they are neither the only nor the easiest. For they require discipline, from us – politicians and voters alike. Without this discipline, a rational state slides merrily into the realm of chaos, the beginnings of which we are currently witnessing, and whose next stage could be mass violence on a 20th-century scale.
Of course, the fact that the entire system is gravitating towards such a chaotic phase transition does not mean it must inevitably descend into it – as in any dynamic system, the state of the system is the result of the complex interactions between its components. In other words, discipline in the application of the principles of rational politics can halt or slow down this process.
P.S. I have not mentioned the Left so far simply because the global Left drifted off into the realm of chaos a long time ago – the very concept of the left defending the religious, authoritarian, oppressive and extremely misogynistic regimes of Hamas and the IGRC is exactly the same level of absurdity as ultraconservative Ordo Iuris ranting about traditional values alongside Alice Weidel or Orbán 😆 The reasons behind this process are exactly the same as those on the right – magical thinking, ‘tactical alliances’ and ‘moral compromises’.
