Bull Bitcoin opened the first front in France, where it is challenging the decree that transposes DAC8 into French law before the Conseil d’État, the country’s highest administrative court, and asking for the directive itself to be referred to the EU Court of Justice.

The case is set to go through the Federal Administrative Court to the Constitutional Court, and from there potentially to the EU Court of Justice, the same road that brought down EU data retention in 2014.

I had Claude analyze the betting patterns on the Texas Senate race on Kalshi for the last 24 hours.

Post Mortem:
The server I run Flotilla, zooid, and other things on got hacked this morning at about 5 AM Pacific. I had disabled the gitea action runner for pull requests, but not for users' own repositories. The attacker triggered two workflow runs (called "exploit" and "probe") in an action runner container which had the docker socket mounted.
At about 8 AM this morning I purged the attacker's two accounts (which was a mistake because it destroyed forensics), and gave Claude ssh access and asked it to clean things up. Gitea has been moved to a dedicated host with the action runner container configuration fixed and registrations disabled. The rest of the services have been manually moved to a fresh host.
There's no evidence that the attacker exfiltrated any sensitive data, installed any software, or executed any supply chain attacks (no packages were published, no updates released, and I keep signing keys elsewhere). This appears to have been an automated attack targeting poorly-secured gitea instances.
I'm treating the server as completely compromised, and have rotated all credentials and moved everything to new servers.
The main things for you to know:
- If you host a relay with me, it's possible the attacker had access to your space's chat messages.
- Hosted relays' secret keys were compromised. These were never shared with tenants, have been rotated, and never published any metadata. They were only used to map self-published events to a relay url.
This attack has made me reflect on the security characteristics of two things in particular:
- Nostr private keys can't be rotated. I stored low-value keys on disk rather than remotely, let alone using multisig. This is a very different threat model than people are used to. I am going to look into a developer-oriented way to store private keys for production use.
- NWC connection strings can't revoke themselves. One of my users had entered their connection string into caravel to enable automatic payments. I've contacted them and encouraged them to revoke the connection, but it's not something I can do myself. I am going to look into adding a self-revoke protocol to NWC (and NIP 46).

Comecei com um galão cheio, paguei 35 reais, quando o galão acabava e eu ia encher, pagava 10 reais pra recarregar esse e comprava mais um de 35, daí quando o próximo acabava eu ia até meu pequeno depósito particular, pegava o galão mais antigo, colocava no bebedouro e repita o processo, recarregava o de 10 e comprava mais um de 35, pois bem, fiquei nesse For/loop por 10 meses. Nesse ponto que eu entro em divergência com os Bitcoin Maxi, você só vai tirar o seu dinheiro do sistema? Não, pra mim o que você puder tira. Então o que aconteceu lá no Ceará pode acontecer com você na grande selva de pedra chamada São Paulo, então dito isso se você do #nostr está sofrendo sem água eu lamento, se prepare para a próxima crise e os petistas do nordeste quero ver comendo cachorro.

⚡️🇧🇷 NEW - Brazil’s largest crypto exchange has just suffered a hack resulting in losses of nearly $40 million, just a few days after Binance.
Mercado Bitcoin assures that the company will cover the losses.
The November 2 attack targeted the platform’s online wallets across multiple blockchains.
According to its latest statement, the affected assets now total $36.3 million, of which $12.9 million has already been frozen thanks to the efforts of several industry players.
For its part, Chainalysis had initially estimated the amount stolen at approximately $49 million.
The platform and its app remain completely suspended, with no reopening date announced.

Thanks to Daniela Brozzoni (and bitcoin red team) for a scan that picked up several bugs in the old joinmarket-clientserver repo, one in particular that was an especially big deal - a direct funds loss of a sender in the old payjoin implementation (bip78). Thank god very few if any people really used that but we did include it directly in the client software, so I'm sure at least a few tried it here and there (with btcpayserver e.g.). I've now changed the repo from "archived; don't recommend you use this" to "archived and DO NOT USE THIS and BIG SCARY WARNING about funds loss" and repeated the warning on every release page just in case.
Worth mentioning that both I and, to a larger extent, @m0wer , did a fair bit of scanning of the joinmarket repos looking for bugs a few months back; we found quite a few but nothing with direct funds loss like that one ^ . So this was extremely valuable extra scanning.

I recommend joinmarket-ng if you want to do joinmarket coinjoins, but bear in mind, I do not work on Joinmarket any more. The general meta comment is of course that "don't use unmaintained software in 2026" is good advice, because most things with any complexity are broken unless actively audited.
