No, the pixel 8, 9 and 10a launched at $499.
The only big ticket hardware on these phones is ARM, maybe $250 over a few hundred thousand units.
The bottleneck is a device with guaranteed firmware support. They've only promised long-term support on these flagship devices and Graphene isnt going to develop for a device and get locked out after a couple years.

which seems like a reasonable tradeoff when the service you are providing is legal.
But their retention policy was never clear and it seems there were some XPUBs on their node when it was seized.
