NVK, from my impression, was constantly thinking and talking about security. Obsessed almost?
Not a single thought in 5 years about a probability of a bug in the RNG code, knowing perfectly well there were two implementations because one was explicitly disabled.
Very suspect indeed.
Another theory is incompetence, but he was friends with people who know about security, like on his podcast, so he surely would have been called out?
Whatever it is trust God the truth will be found.
Reflections of a different kind…
An agenda driven “actor” in a visibility economy almost never announces themselves. They don’t show up cartoonishly villainous. They show up helpful. Early. Generous with their time, generous with their zaps, quick to defend people publicly when it costs them nothing and quick to build goodwill that they can spend later, when it costs them something real. They learn the language of the community faster than anyone, because sounding like you belong is the actual product they’re building, long before you find out what they’re selling.
And critically, they understand something most sincere posters never think about strategically. They understand that once you’ve been visibly, generously present in a community for long enough, people extend you a form of credit. Doubt gets suspended. Benefit goes to you, automatically, because you’ve paid into the social account for years. That credit is exactly what gets cashed in when something eventually goes wrong, when a decision needs defending, when a silence needs explaining, when a question needs to not be asked too loudly.
This week, watching a real security failure unfold in real time, I saw this play out in miniature, over and over. People who’d built years of goodwill got the benefit of the doubt automatically, reflexively, from people who otherwise pride themselves on verifying everything. Meanwhile people with zero history, zero followers, just a technical finding and a GitHub link, got picked apart line by line before anybody took them seriously. That’s backwards. That’s exactly backwards from how verification is supposed to work, and it happened because visibility had quietly become a stand in for credibility somewhere along the way, for all of us, myself included.
I’m not telling you to distrust everyone with a following. That’s paranoid and it’s also just wrong, plenty of people earn a following the honest way. I’m telling you that a following is not evidence of anything except that a lot of people were willing to engage. That’s it. That’s all it proves. It doesn’t prove honesty. It doesn’t prove competence. It doesn’t prove the person doesn’t have something they’re not telling you

Buckets jam for two reasons: the tapered walls wedge together like a Morse taper, and the trapped air pocket forms a vacuum seal. Fix both:
**1. Stacking lugs (kills the wedge).** Mold 3–4 small bumps or ribs on the outside wall, partway down. When nested, the upper bucket's rim lands on the lower bucket's lugs instead of wedging wall-to-wall. Contact is on hard stops, not friction surfaces — they lift apart freely.
**2. Vent path (kills the vacuum).** The lugs already create a gap, but add shallow vertical grooves inside the rim or a stepped rim profile so air can flow into the cavity as buckets separate. No suction, no pop.
**3. Dual-angle taper (optional refinement).** Steeper draft angle (~5–7°) on the lower half of the wall than commercial buckets use. Steep tapers can't self-lock — same principle as why a 45° cone never jams but a 2° one does.

The key insight: separation force must exceed friction. Lugs convert the joint from a friction fit to a hard-stop fit, and the vent kills the pressure differential. Commercial versions of this exist (some paint pails use rim steps), but lugs + vents together are the robust solution. If this is for 3D printing, lugs are trivial to add and cost nothing in print time.
What would you call a person who calls themself a Nazi, keeps company with people who randomly drop into my replies for unrelated things blaming the Jews for all the worlds problems, and gets publicly defended by people who regularly make pro Hitler posts?
I get that not every racist is a Nazi, but for a group who literally posts pro Hitler stuff and uses the word Nazi to describe themselves I think birth year is an arbitrary reason to exclude them from the title.
Legends say the designer was an ass man.

My proposition is to make a softer option for the duress pin (possibly with some kind of warning in the corresponding settings menu that using it as a bypass for border checks will cause troubles). Could be called a "robber pin".
For instance, it could clear data of specific applications, remove specific files, etc., maybe remove a specific eSIM, and leave no visual traces that this option was ever configured. And keep working as normally, without making it look too suspicious.
This should be useful in case it's clear that the attacker has no access to the analysis tools, which could prove what exactly was removed.
GOS devs responses appear to be solely limited to those who are at risk of being checked with these tools. I think this doesn't make sense: you don't need any tools to know that the phone was just fully wiped, 'cause it kinda screams in the face with this fact currently:
https://www.androidauthority.com/grapheneos-duress-pin-us-prosecution-3691271/
I don't say that they've implemented something useless, though. It's useful for journalists in particular, who may be transporting some raw secret materials, just as one example.
> quiet a rare case
The meme I posted is an expression of my frustration with GOS devs ignorance of dozens of repetitive criticisms made by others, long before me.
GOS doesn't seem to respond to this particular kind of criticism on Nostr. They, however, at least used to respond on the platforms, where they in practice may threaten a critic with a ban (last paragraph):
https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/17241-duress-pin-limited-usefulness/18
The thing I learned from all this, with the help of @npub175n…g6w0 in a completely unrelated discussion, is that this kind of criticism should never ever be mixed with the "social normality" kind of argumentation (including UX-related).

How did soy become milk, meat, yogurt, and a health claim?
That's a suspicious thing to say but it doesn't appear to be you.
I've got a short list now and I'm considering naming and shaming.
I would rather take out a collateralized loan against Bitcoin for fiat purposes, & spend Bitcoin direct for P2P purposes.
It would actually give me a reason to use Bitcoin.
I usually just liquidate my BTC for fiat stuff but if I didn’t have to that would be nice.
Good night 😘 .see you tomorrow.

I don’t know, I think it’s fair question why the top two investors in a company that make what was supposed to be the most secure device for storing bitcoin never once required the company that they invested in and promoted for years to submit to regular security audits, independent code reviews at their own expense, and the same industry certifications their competitors all had.

I've got a lot of Nazis in my replies the last couple of days even though I have WoT on.
What is a reliable way to figure out which one of my follows is following these shitheads so I can fix the root cause instead of playing whack a mole? Whenever I try to look at the racists followers list I just get a blank list.

Pick it up, put it in a drawer, and think about it. There might actually be a forum for helping lost BTC owners in the future. Otherwise, leave it for prosperity, to strengthen the whole blockchain, as Satoshi did.
Is something potentially changing?
