You don't want to move your funds back to a new Coldcard seed. You want to move your coins to a secure wallet and then you wait until this clusterfuck is over to make decisions on how to proceed.
Coldcard is done.
Don’t assign your own ideas to my words.
Who said anything about defending? I speak merely to the state of mind of a person who is frequently angry and influencers.
He rolled the 🎲

Whenever I see people referring to “influencers” in a sort of looking down, derogatory way, I think they are probably affected by inferiority complex and have self esteem issues. They are projecting their insecurities onto a person who they deem to be more influential - not because they literally have wider reach, but because they see themselves as incapable of achieving the same. Likely also being influenced by social proof, prestige bias and authority bias.

One to one is great and arguably the best way to learn something. I think this is an exception to how most people get into hardware wallets.
I don’t remember the exact CC onboarding; but I don’t think it put any emphasis on rolling dice. I do think they mention it but even if they did it’s still not something a person would do unless the onboarding specifically sent them through this as a requirement (which it could have and I’m keen on seeing such UX actually). Maybe if they made that part fun and easy to follow through, Odell’s advice could have been different? I don’t know… but I don’t think he was out of line to say what he did in the video. Had entropy been handled correctly, it wouldn’t have been such a huge issue as it is now.

99% of people listening to podcasts 😂
You vastly overestimate people’s ability to follow instructions (especially if they are not written well).
I'm a bipper and even I agree.
Don’t need to imagine. If they understand what you’re saying it’s only because you explained it well.
I’ve worked in UX for a large part of my life and have witnessed all of the things I’m talking about.
You can do that with the Seedsigner itself after creating. Yeah start watching tutorials 💪
Any time they mention anything cryptography related basically. Also, rolling dice even. It’s a complete foreign concept to most people. You’d have to have amazing onboarding to explain it all.
That's a fucking great point.
Half of my time in bitcoin, I have to explain to stubborn bitcoiners how what they consider is obvious and easy is not at all obvious or easy to a regular joe. Frankly it’s fking tiring. I now remembers why I disengaged in these kinds of exchanges entirely.
Everything you just said, the eyes glaze over.
I don’t think it’s as simple as explaining you’re just counting. It sounds like a foreign concept entirely. People barely understand what a seed phrase is. Do you know how much effort goes into just explaining not to share it…
Ok. Not sure why you linked it here 😂
Am I going to regret clicking this?
My biggest security vector is me, which is why I steer clear from complex multisig setups.
Yeah. I’d be curious to hear it from his side…
Yeah, check the Seedsigner verification methods on Github. Maybe have chatgpt help you? And also check your sparrow software.
And after seed generating with the Seedsigner you can verify addresses if they belong to the seed.
You don't have to do any of these, but it's time to verify as much as you can
Rolling dice is definitely an advanced feature of a hardware wallet unless it was specifically baked into the onboarding - which I think is a cool idea btw and worth doing. But I think @npub1qny…95gx correctly stated it so in the video everyone is now bashing him for. It’s not deserved imo, he just pointed out an obvious risk with doing something you don’t know well. And that’s not to say it can’t be done well with the right onboarding experience.
Your readers self select from a very large pool of people. You have the entire population and then people who know about bitcoin and from those who have dabbled in it - multiple touch points and from those the ones who self selected for Bitcoin only and from those to be curious about self custody and then down to rolling dice (I’m skipping many levels).
Yes people are a lot more capable than they give themselves credit for, but that doesn’t tell us much about the few that end up choosing to roll the dice or not. Plenty of hardcore bitcoiners did not roll any dice even if they read your blog.
Again, not speaking about the quality of education which is excellent imo.

But try to make the Seedsigner ASAP and get your stack to safety.
Try to verify all the software you're using and just verify whatever you can
Yeah printed them.
You should be able to find someone who can print it quite cheap.
Idk if I'll ever visit HK. Kinda afraid of the government 😅
I’m not saying this to diminish your writing, but to point out what I believe is true of people in general.
There will always be people who are outliers.
No problem man. I hope people will do the same if I ever need help.
And I have like 100 Seedsigner cases. I'll check if it's possible to ship to you
Yeah seedsigner is gonna get big business, which they deserve.
The timing part is something I'm extremely convinced of as well yes.
Yeah I'm a windows peasant :( I do take a lot of measurements to make it less bad, but just running linux is objectively better yes.
Sent a test. Lmk if you got it
Cheers. I always state it is a theory indeed. I find it quite likely that at least parts of it is true, especially the timing part.
This was just one battle of the war, and currently I still believe the biggest battle is core vs knots, for now. I'd love to see more implementations just so it could direct more people away from the corruption of core.
There’s not much more you could have done. Only nerds understand or care about entropy. No amount of writing or video or podcasts would have fixed that.
Just go to any wallet, press receive and it will give an address
Unlikely yes. Accidents happen by accident lol. If I organise a party where I'm somewhat responsible for my guests, and I'm aware a boulder is rolling towards us from afar, least I could do is warn them about the danger. The boulder was more likely than not, planned.
