Agreed, and SeedSigner is an awesome tool to learn on, but can’t imagine suggesting it to a first timer who doesn’t have a DIY background as a way to store multiple years of stacking on an exchange.

Okay, so bolts and zeus are experiencing problems and cutting services, coldcard has just completely collapsed.
This could be Bitcoins toughest year for a while.
Coldcard is not fully open source. It used to be, but they changed the license. Open source can make code more resilient than closed source as (in theory) more people (and agents) can audit the code. For closed source, yes not everyone will see the bug, but it doesn't mean someone might find it in other ways, besides looking at the code
A podcast or books is only as good as the podcaster or author. If you’re in your research phase, as long as your funds aren’t in any short-term risk, you have time to make decisions. Nothing is final until you actually send a bitcoin transaction somewhere.
There are still a lot of very good hardware wallet options, along with collaborative custodial companies, and services that offer insurance. Each of the companies you mentioned above are to my knowledge reputable, but don’t take my word for it. Learn about who the founders are, and schedule introduction calls with each of their customer relations teams until you’re satisfied you’ve gotten the answers you need. There are more honest players in this industry than bad actors.
The ColdCard debacle isn’t an isolated incident in this industry, but it’s one that could have been better contained if users had gone with an industrial-grade product rather than something built on obvious hubris and backslaps.

Man. It is hard to see Odell so broken. He is owning his role. So is Marty. Mistakes were made. We all do them. We don’t kick wounded soldiers.
People are understandably hurt and angry. They trusted their ColdCard to be a safe and reliable device, or they know someone who did, and it was on the basis of the high recommendadion of so many in the Bitcoin community.
Now, in their anger, they are lashing out at anyone they deem blameworthy. Those more closely connected with NVK or anything he is associated with, especially @nprofile…uazd, are going to get the brunt of that, because it's easy to assume monetary incentive to turn a blind eye.
But I know you. I know you were just as blindsided by this as the rest of us.
Trust that others who know you also know better, and roll with the punches that come from those who don't, because you know the hurt and anger that is behind them.

How does the swap happen?
Theres some service or system which does it. That system generates metadata.
It might be a atomic swam or a centralized swap service, but there's some form of metadata created.
That metadata enables timing analysis about what assets are moving.
Interestingly, however, as we left the restaurant, there was a Dad reading out the menu prices to his family across the beach.
He didn't read the items on the menu, just the prices.

It's an interesting perspective, and I think I agree. Cryptography and machine intelligence are making every person face an individual reckoning with their own mind, soul, and consciousness - and what role these play in the universe. When a critical mass goes through this on a similar timeline, it leaves an indelible mark on the collective sense.
Those experienced wrestling with the existential, whether from lived trauma or other shocking pathways such as this demonstrate humanity's antifragility (richly endowed by our Creator). As awful as this situation is, I pray that individuals and families will come out stronger to build newly durable traditions.
