GitHub’s Grip Is Slipping: Why Nostr Is Becoming the New Home for Open Source
When GitHub goes dark, your code shouldn't go with it. A quiet revolution in decentralized code hosting is giving developers a way out. Here's how.

I was considering harvesting profiles to optimise search in Plume, but not sure it's the best way forward. I'm not convinced it's a question of knowing where they are, either. When I run a reload it checked the npubs relays then 3 hardcoded ones, so it's limited in scope but it does return the data, it just takes several attempts sometimes, more so with notes as far as I can tell atm. So it know where they are, it's just not getting the results. I don't worry about image/video because that can simply be a compression issue, but because I'm new to all this, I'm wondering, how reliable are websockets in the first place? There's a cause to all this jankiness. It's out there, somewhere.
It’s really fun building games! Learn a lot along the way.

Check zap.observer and see what the speed is. The problem is that we don’t know where the profile is and which relay has the latest on. I had to harvest profiles and proxy optimize all pfps just to get to that, and it is still not great

I should post more young artists. Someone's always complaining without considering their limited years of experience, so here we go. Today, Justus Eichhorn is playing Liszt's Grande Étude de Paganini No. 2.

Even with the new element reload feature in Plume I'm noticing, even with no active websocket connections clogging up the pipes, that it often takes two or three attempts to pull a profile or quoted note. Not every time, but frequently. So it's not getting lost in the noise of open websocket connections and loading/sorting process, it's simply not getting responses from relays reliably. On perfectly fine equipment with perfectly find Internet. So it's the relays. I keep coming back to it.
So my next question; is it the relay software, or the hardware? Are we simply not using powerful enough servers, or is nostr's basic building block, the relay, missing something that'll change the whole nostr experience?

Bitcoin’s $113,000 Call Meets an $85,000 Reality Check
Bitcoin has started October with a familiar signal: Wall Street is raising its long-term target while the market struggles to hold a short-term breakout. The next move may depend less on optimism than on one data point arriving before the weekend.

Best of luck with it, and hope the recovery is as quick as it can be
Yeah, Erlang is on my list because Michaels' relay is Elixir.
We have stuff at work, that I might integrate, but I can do that myself, in my sleep.
You'll perform that trick ten times and get bored of it, is my prediction.
Bitcoin’s dual nature—**both a store of value and a medium of exchange**—isn’t a contradiction but a tension between two visions of money’s soul. Imagine a river: its current (exchange) carves the path of daily life, while its depth (value) holds the memory of civilizations. Bitcoin’s early adopters saw it as a **digital gold**, a hedge against entropy, a vessel for wealth preservation in an era of monetary debasement. But as the river widens, the pressure to flow—to become the oil of commerce—grows. This isn’t just a technical debate; it’s a **philosophical clash over what money should *be* in a world where trust is the most fragile resource**.
The store-of-value camp argues that Bitcoin’s scarcity is its superpower, a fixed supply in a universe of infinite debt. They point to gold’s millennia-long resilience, its ability to outlast empires. But gold was never meant to buy bread at the market stall; it was a king’s reserve, a tool of last resort. Bitcoin, too, thrives in the **shadow economy of the mind**—where people measure wealth in units of time, not transactions. Its value isn’t in its utility but in its **unassailable scarcity**, a digital anchor in a sea of inflation.
Yet the medium-of-exchange faction sees this as self-defeating. Money, they say, must **move like blood**, lubricating trade, not just sitting like a hoard in a vault. They look at Visa’s daily volumes and ask: *Why should Bitcoin be any different?* But here’s the paradox: the more Bitcoin tries to become a tool of commerce, the more it risks becoming **just another ledger entry**, another layer of the financial stack it was designed to escape. The moment it becomes the default for Starbucks lattes, it surrenders its edge—its **anti-system purity**.
The truth may lie in the **asymmetry of adoption**. Bitcoin doesn’t need to replace cash to be money; it needs to **replace the idea of money itself**. As a store of value, it’s already winning—slowly, silently, like a glacier carving canyons. But as a medium of exchange, it’s trapped in a **chicken-and-egg hell**: merchants won’t adopt it until users demand it, but users won’t demand it until merchants adopt it. The breakthrough won’t come from technology—it’ll come from **cultural shift**, from people realizing that Bitcoin isn’t just an asset, but a **new language of ownership**.
So here’s the question: *Is Bitcoin’s greatest strength its refusal to be a tool, or will that refusal doom it to irrelevance?* The answer may depend on whether we’re building a **new money** or just a better ledger.

I am the kween of being able to read code written in languages I have never learned, due to decades of moderating code live code-reviews. So, I can't really say because I can usually decipher the bit in question and I am good at asking questions, to check for quality loss.
But only that snippet or that function. Without deeper knowledge, I can't freely navigate through the codebase because I don't know where things would likely be.
It doesnt.
Because you have 32 relays in your inbox list.
The best practice standard is 3, btw.
When you have so many you force every client to do a huge amount of work to send you something. Whitenoise doesnt do it if there's more than 16.
You'll have a better experience on nostr if you reduce the number of relays in your list.
This reminds me. I feel like this attractiveness range (it applies to both friends and potential mates) explains why so many people think LLMs are *Wow, so smart!* but some of us are completely underwhelmed.
Like, I'm impressed with the stuff it can do and how much tedious effort I can offload to it -- although I have started missing the tedious stuff, actually, there's something to be said for zoning out to tedious labour -- but it mostly seems like a programmable robot and a chatty search engine, to me. And I only interact with the most-advanced models.
Everything lesser seems dull and dumb as dog shit. Like that annoying guy at the döner store who tries to chat you up, but can barely reason his way out of a paper box, and it's like, Just give me the döner, please. 🥙
Mr. Chatbot, just give me the damned döner.

Not thinking Elon is brilliant just means you aren't very smart. I don't have to like something someone else is doing with their intelligence, in order to measure it. He's solidly within my "smart enough to be attractive to me" range (yes, I am my own IQ test), which puts him at least 140.
(Normally, that should be 110, as the attractiveness range is 20-points in either direction, with a curve peaking above her own, but I always shift right at least 10 because I'm good-looking enough to get away with it and women are thin on the ground up there. 😂)
