it's true that now we pretty much know who's behind an app, but in the future? the stuff you interact with is the app so probably want to zap that

Well, let the computers compute😄
Cool, we should be able to run it with memgraph!
I like it.
I don't see the problem. On average users update their contact lists during intervals way superior to ~10 seconds. And if the goal is to run this on a server, we can throw more money at the problem. A C++ impl and a beefy server can easily make it faster.
Domain names and IPs are convenient identifiers to make freedom tech work.
Good design allows for these to be easily swapped. (Blossom is a perfect example of this.)
But even nostr keypairs can be compromised.
Our social connections are the ultimate way to give people/nyms' reputation continuity across time.
This is why WoT-related developments are the most important for freedom tech to succeed.
You can try to search in nostr.band or other service that allows you to use nip50 search to find a note containing what you searched.
GNGM, great news, great morning 🌞
Doesn't Blossom fix this?
This is great. How do you determine a subgraph? What do you mean by too much time? Can it be implemented in C++ or Python?
This is what we use right now: https://memgraph.com/docs/advanced-algorithms/available-algorithms/pagerank_online
Tried to withdraw my esats from Freedom One a few times, it keeps failing.
I know next to nothing about Fedimint but this appears to be a terrible design decision:
"If configs are hashed and federation IDs depend on the DNS the guardian set up in the beginning, then in its current form, there's no way to change these parameters without it looking like a completely new federation. Effectively nullifying all user funds."
#nevent1q…6u98
Yes, I was reading a book that talked about this and how there are places in cities and urban areas where there are no signs of culture and you can be anywhere, like in any place of the world, when you're inside, places like shopping centres and big chains where you're placed in a kind of third space that has nothing to do with the folklore of the place in order to transmit a brand image
Yes, a bit, the worst thing for me is that some places rely so much on tourism that they are even destroying their culture.
Wow, seems like a bit of a shot in the foot, but from experience living there is full of people trying to take advantage of all the tourism and the prices have rocketed up in recent years, making it a bit uncomfortable for locals.

I implemented it on mine: https://github.com/zapstore/ftsrelay , should be pretty simple to do it on other relays
If you can get signed messages following the JSON format described in NIP-01 and verify them... it's nostr
It doesn't matter if a websocket or a pigeon delivered it ona piece of paper
See the post just above, I implemented what you said (but with POST and just the filter). Yes it would be cool to make it work with GET too
Nice, thanks for setting this up!
@npub1zac…5dy5 @npub1w4u…0jr5 @npub1yx6…7kza feedback on the API design, looks good like that?
Ok my dudes, as promised REST support live on relay.zap.store
curl -X POST -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"kinds": [1063], "search": "mutiny" }' https://relay.zap.store | jq
Posting is restricted but works exactly the same, a POST request with a JSON payload. Considered an EVENT if body.id && body.sig, or a REQ if ids, kinds, etc present
Tested quite a bit, hope it doesn't blow up
#nevent1q…tqrn
Exactly. Want to see nostr running over hypercore and such
Interested in that last bit, what do you mean exactly? Is it possible to send a compressed form of signatures?
Yes! Adding REST support soon to ftsrelay.
Another one is chaining filters, which I'm also going to implement
["REQ", "test", { "kinds": [32267], "search": "test" }, { "kinds": [30063], "#a": [&0] }, { "kinds": [1063], "#a": [&1] }]
Streamlines the common use-case of waiting for a response, parsing results client-side, running a new query, multiple times

Found a yuge memory spike in the zap.store app during APK hash computation.
Good news: replaced the read-file SHA-256 digest with a streaming one and memory remains flat! Also, no apparent memory leaks after an hour of profiling, constant ~100MB. Hoping this will solve crashes and sluggishness some of you experienced 🤞 will go in next release 0.1.3 soon

Nowadays what many people call love is not love, it is a shitcoin
Hard problems 😅
Sure we'll incorporate multiple curators (so @npub1r0r…q9ac can use it).
Idea is to show various trust metrics (I also dislike scores) for the user to make a decision whether to trust/install the app or not. Domain names are fiat crap, sure, but they have value so they're shown. The app itself can completely change how trust is assessed, you might not care at all for an alarm clock app but care a lot for a bitcoin wallet.
But no matter how you slice it, the web of trust will ALWAYS be involved. Curators are simply someone you decided to trust. "Known people in the space" are also because people you trust, trust them and we need to validate that. I can assure you I can spin a full clone of the existent ~25k and ~180k connections in have in trustgraph and have Gigis, Odells, etc.
Re: avoiding impersonations, it's my next plan for trustgraph (i.e. probability of impersonator, given your 2-3 hop graph) - I was discussing that with Niel the other day.

Not saying it's wrong to have a closed-source product in the freedom tech space.
But it's uncommon and fishy. Especially if you're dealing with money and personal data.
How about having the guts to openly explain why you're NOT open source?
Maybe that would inspire more confidence in your product?
@npub1uq7…u0c2 mind explaining us why you are not open source?
Got it. Fedi is acting like a sort of Amber with a browser with window.nostr - I love the idea.
However, Amber is free and open source code and afaik has reproducible builds.
But that Fedi repository has zero code. Just a README file? I don't even know why they have one. They could easily be sweeping people's nsecs and no one would know.
I'd rather have a freedom phone, where I can use nostr if I want to
"Fedi accounts are nostr npubs" means they hold the nsecs, or you can log in with Amber or similar? And they are still closed-source? What makes you so bullish?
It's super basic.. We'll open source it anyway though, next week, in case anyone would like to use it

There is something off with @npub1exv…d828
They are very elusive about digitally signing their releases, only with recent updates here: https://github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat/issues/3158 that really don't add much.
In theory mobile releases are signed but can't find the signatures, definitely not alongside their binaries. Keys? Oh go find them at openpgp.org. Like where exactly? https://keys.openpgp.org/search?q=simplex yields no results. Also, no reproducible builds.
So, "quantum resistant E2E encryption" but not a single PGP signature?
Lol they can't even integrate LN payments.

You can have a look at https://github.com/zapstore/ftsrelay (a custom relay I built for zap.store)
Not the most tested relay impl out there, but:
- written in javascript which is probably easier to get started than go or rust
- relatively small
- you can ask me if there's something you don't understand
what programming language are you comfortable with?
Yeah man absolutely we need to keep iterating and finding some usable middle ground. Anything with slight more signal than follows is a win.
Option 1: would this be using kind 7 likes/dislikes? If so, trust would be derived from the interpretation of those events rather than being explicit, did I get that right? Regarding NIP-54 how likely is it that she adds the category?
Option 2: love where it's headed, we need this. Communities fixes it too right?
Today, how would we add a a mute event *in some context*? (reuse kind 10000 or does it have to be NIP-77?)
In zap.store eventually I want to start asking, after a few app updates: "do you trust this dev" and make the user sign that attestation.
@npub16r0…z5pl agree with you and I did think about it: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1182
While I agree with most of the thread, I wonder how will these attestations (context/score/confidence) be input into the system?
I have a strong intuition people will not bother doing this. UX is everything. So yes, it may be a task delegated to an incentivized curator - which in turn requires trust in them. Which might as well be an LLM that ends up deriving trust based on proxies.
IMO for this to actually work we need users to signal trust in a more progressive fashion. User prompts should be sparse, minimal and appropriate to the context of whatever they're doing in a client, e.g. when fat zapping Lyn Alden user could be prompted to sign an event assigning more weight to Lyn in the topics of the zapped note. A bit more, not a number.
A perhaps extreme, terrible UX example would be: out of the blue, ask me in absolute terms how much I trust Lyn Alden, make me input what things I should trust her on, and the confidence I have on what I just wrote.
Also, humans do not think about trust in percentages and are lazy when the ask is too big relative to an eventual payoff, so will answer things quick and inaccurately just to get done. It's a translation, a degradation in signal, so one could argue that these attestations are also proxies. Better than follows, probably, but also proxies.
Thanks, yours for sure is better documented, tested and benchmarked. Will look at all this in detail
GM! Sadly it's going to take a LOT more pain for most people to start understanding the US dollar scam, and even more to see that bitcoin fixes it (and that it actually is a MoE). As the world's reserve currency for about a century, the USD is so culturally ingrained that it's going to be very hard.
Insanely stupid, money is not fungible now?
It does sound very well designed. Hope we can get our cypherpunk version at some point!
ready
https://nostrdev.com
We're literally working on this right now! Also the Lorum Ipsum. Ready in a few hours
We're working on this right now, we just deployed an initial version 30 mins ago, lol
Should be finished in a few hours!
I was going to say the same xD
For now: 'url', 'title', 'description', 'name', 'summary', 'alt', 't'
https://github.com/zapstore/ftsrelay/blob/master/setup.js#L36
Exactly. More generally: we should derive amount/context from users' natural (signed) activity
Probably the only other usable relay implementation for zap.store besides our ftsrelay
That said I'm in favor of a stronger trust signal. For example a kind 3 style list with "trusted people".
But every single time we get back into the discussion of "trust for what" and "trust how much" - back to the UX problem.
The latter is required for automatic trust assumptions - I'm yet to be convinced it's a good idea. It's like if on zap.store we automatically installed packages because "web of trust okay". No, I want to work algos that work hard to show you the most accurate information possible so *you* can make the actual decision.
I think this is the way... inferring amount/context!
What I was referring to are explicit attestations, I think it's hard to get a good UX for a user to define how much and which categories.
And I've seen alternatives mentioned like "oh no problem clients will deal with that" probably meaning that clients will sign events on behalf of users? If that is the idea I disagree
Agree with you but "this much" and "this context" are really hard problems
X depth and variety inspires me like on the first day.
But they can pull the plug like a bank.
That's what they did with me a few years ago.
We all know that decentralization makes that impossible.
That's why we're all here.
But the inspiring network needs to be built.
And that can take ages.
So send the REQ in a JSON payload I assume
Gonna add this to https://github.com/zapstore/ftsrelay
I say this as a local-first maxi. Typically not an issue with apps after first load, but I find websites suck at keeping good caches (even nostrudel with nostr-relay-tray struggles). Every time I come back it's spinners everywhere.
That's a good point but would make REQs huge, no?
Sounds controversial but would be cool to experiment with it. Client side at the moment, and especially on nostr, is quite terrible - particularly on websites. Sure I hope it gets better
"Nostr, in other words, recreates the social mixing common to a village, where the groups are largely separate when deep in discussion or at work, but interact incidentally when moving around"
Good article. nostr allows for echo chambers and at the same time serendipitously running into other stuff.
Who people tend to associate with reminded me of the concept of flow in psychology, like being in the zone requires a balance between challenge and skill
#nevent1q…vzqu
So now I want to delete that highlight, which doesn't make sense on its own
how does one comment on highlighter.com? I click on the button and nothing happens
Would like to see more nostr clients fetching/rendering server side, would significantly improve UX
https://oddbean.com/ comes to mind
Maybe then have a Nostr Police extension that verifies events after rendered, pulls from random relays, etc
Optimistic UX pattern
Probably worth experimenting with
should be easy to augment relays with REST endpoints right?

Awesome. WoT is the only way!
I literally could not find him on Amethyst, among the thousands of random fiatjafs
If you want to understand the importance of web of trust sorting, trying finding fiatjaf on most clients today. Almost impossible
PageRank is an algorithm to give more weight to nodes (pubkeys) that are followed, it's "global" because it's determined based on the server's knowledge of the network, not only the pubkeys involved here.
Why Fabian first, good question. Probably because the list is not sorted - I'll check.

Good! that's what zapthreads been doing all along
Not persuaded.
Fedi open source where exactly?
Mostly open source is a thing now?
Interesting observation. Signing with another npub could also be offered for a specific area of an app, so as not to override actual user customizations.
WoT alone does not suffice and that's why since Madeira we've been talking about having other trust indicators like
- Certificates, domain names or valuable namespaces (like the github link we show on zap.store when about to install); domains could also be used as authority to point to a PGP key or certificate an app is signed with
- Curators and external verifier services (which might have an non-nostr reputation, i.e. a known brand, Wallet Scrutiny comes to mind for reproducible build attestations)
- Permission restrictions (do you care about the internals of your keyboard app if it's totally restricted to the network and other apps at the OS-level? Worst case you don't enjoy it and uninstall)
You don't like Madeira anymore?

I enjoy citrine+amethyst so much. Thinking about it, maybe it would be interesting to have a reconciliation or sync mode for citrine so you can sync all the notes that appear when you use the client. It can be interesting because sometimes amethyst is glitchy and notes jump around or you can't find a note you saw etc. Citrine can help with that I think.

I think we all want to see bigger impact, faster. We can and should put pressure on ourselves to do better, but there's a limit. There are things that simply are out of our control. Sometimes the river current will push us out no matter how hard we swim.
As the prayer goes: "Lord, grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Inventing things so people in the future have extra time to invent more things
It costs nothing to go an vote for the lesser evil, even though you know its all bullshit
I recall it's $250k or sth for a TLD plus all the ICAN bribes
for sure it can / could be done
I've yet to find a website that lets you make regular phone calls (eg, to mobiles) whilst also paying with bitcoin and using a vpn
Anonymous use of the GSM network is tough.
What makes you think he controls the TLD?
We could use another word, but not a fan of the word connections: it gives the idea that it's mutual
How about subscribers?
Brave Search implemented PoW 👏
Checked https://github.com/holesail/holesail - would be excellent if you could upload your APK to releases!
Did you confirm? crypton.sh uses physical sims, ie, with a modem.
Should be fine for banking purposes so long as they accept UK numbers

Fuck Google Play! Do you have publish the APK? will put it up on zap.store
you're looking at it in absolute terms
Yeah didn't want to get into a philosophical argument ( @npub1klk…x3vt is your guy), just thought it was cool

Excellent. Would be cool to have something like https://bitcoinmints.com/ for wabisabi runners, even though its non custodial, maybe reputation on uptime etc
Bravo! 👏 But i hope you dont need to be sleepless to buy some corn, can be bad for your health xD

Unfortunately our smart phones nearly always have gsm modules
wish it were possible to have a pocket sized android without the cellular tracking.
pixel tablet, if it were smaller, for instance.
I don't think you'd use a gaussmeter but rather a mobile base station so you can measure the incoming pings
This was the approach used by SRLabs when testing their Blue Merle software for IMEI switching

I'm moving to rural Tajikistan
#note1t2g…2jeu
this is true of google android and iOs, however I understand it is NOT the case for graphene OS
this is useless unless you can also switch the IMEI
unless your phone is in airplane mode, it is constantly pinging your location, regardless of whether it has a sim / esim
At the moment we need to publish it. Is it on github?

The anti-xenophobic algo 🤣
#nevent1q…hny0
For profile discoverability, would like to see a WoT-based algo that surfaces high-signal pubkeys that are 3+ hops away (following of following of following). Basically excluding closest contacts.
This is actually a great point.
A follow is more than a follow, so it follows that the follow list is a bit more than a web of not-spam
#nevent1q…v4gg
That can be said of lots of tools invented by humans. Web of trust is another tool that can surface existing information in compressed form. It does not mandate any numbers on a screen, that is one implementation choice
Fair 😄, it's interesting nonetheless to see near zero talk about it here. Is nostr brought up in Keet at all? know of anyone interested in building a bridge? I'd love to follow some pubkeys from over there
Also trying to listen to most Pear Report episodes.
Humans have been applying social scores for 200,000 years, I don't think that will change anytime soon
There is no actual "web of trust" on nostr today, we currently use it to refer to "web of not spam".
Web of trust is not stupid, it's a crucial input in many contexts.
Gullible are those who think we can replace personal responsibility with automated WoT decision making.

is there a way for cashu to support multisig?
As an asterisk, this is nostr so I might have been looking at wrong relays, or maybe missed something else. But there's definitely people doing it.
Absolutely, so do I and I think most people who have a life. Would be interesting nonetheless.
There's probably a distinct pattern of people who actually do engagement farming. Off the top of my head Jameson Lopp doing this several times, asking "what should I do" type of questions that received crafted, insightful answers and left zero reactions to any.
Bitcoin fixes this
The ability of industrial miners to provide rapid and controlled response to grid supply variations is a service in and of itself, enabling higher use of such renewables

Yes, the key is a better world for who? ...
#nevent1q…g32r
Aaa I see my bad, i was thinking that was part of the spec 😅
Yes, i was thinking about that too, it can be even worse if there is some way to do some remote code execution, and it would be very easy to infect a machine, so for example i can upload some malicious file to my blossom server and then make other server pull it from mine... But if im not mistaken the only way to deal with this would be to not set any relay or cdn for discovelability of files, but this will also limit/kill the usability of the server... Maybe @npub1ye5…knpr can enlighten us more
I mean more than we are now for sure
In a dystopia without any doubt
Much easier, just take the hash and replace the domain of the blossom server, so I just did that. The way the Blossom protocol works is that if there is no file on your Blossom server, it will ask other Blossom servers for the file, and once it finds it, it will store it on yours, then your server will respond to others requesting the file, and so on.
Now its in my blossom too
https://blossom.nostree.me/4921605757bfb4f351cf9ab9b0dd5449905489a158b3b9257c0c5097d5a1c26b.jpg
How you upload the files to your blossom?
1 million bots, great success
I need more incoming zaps to test some performance issues with mutiny. Please send me your smallest zaps.
Yes! HOWEVER... we are blessed to have found something greater than ourselves to work on (or dedicate our lives to), something trascendental. Most people seeking the 4-hour workweek are stuck in the nihilist fiat mentality and just don't know better
Yes and the fact that they seem to be an isolated group of devs under one company financing it
Agree. I think the goal is noble and devs great but their lack of visible traction, the reimplementation of everything and them being so under the umbrella of one company makes me super skeptical too
I literally know of exactly one person excited by the Pear stack, @npub1h8n…rpev
Quite interesting to never see anything about it in my nostr feed
Speaking of, is Keet open source yet?
Easy. Use piped or invidious
I created an API that returns top 5 of your "following-who-follow-x" sorted by PageRank.
For example this is how we both connect: https://zap.store/api/trust/npub1dtgg8yk3h23ldlm6jsy79tz723p4sun9mz62tqwxqe7c363szkzqm8up6m/npub1wf4pufsucer5va8g9p0rj5dnhvfeh6d8w0g6eayaep5dhps6rsgs43dgh9
(Give it a little time, it's slow right now)
Our connections with higher signal on our social graph are @npub1der…xzpc @npub1l2v…ajft and others (you follow them and they follow me)
Why an API, when all other approaches do it client-side? IMO makes no sense to pull a ton of data and heavy calculation client-side, certainly with less awareness of weights in the social graph. With this API you get a small number of npubs you can then pull contact lists from client side and verify the API is not bullshitting you.
I am currently working on making it way faster (will use a more specialized DB). Let me know if this interests you
I literally wrote a song about this with @npub12hs…ua2n

Agreed. Your phone should be in airplane mode at all times. Don't put a sim in it.
The GL750 (vpn) router is perfect for mobile data, and with the Blue Merle extension allows the IMEI to be flipped every time you change the sim (eg, monthly)

what's the solution to spam and bots?
Someone at @npub1exv…d828 decided to show a "critical error" alert when the app can't reach servers after n attempts.
Except that people often voluntarily go offline. Maybe worth rethinking that one 😄
Haven't looked at it but could be interesting? https://stacker.news/items/529157
https://www.gitlurker.info/ is pretty cool
In amethyst you just need to do a long tap on the zap button in whatever note and you can configure it
so many notes in one note
It's very specific to countries/areas. I find on average the environment in the U.S. is more toxic than in Argentina. Probably worse quality food, water and air.

Are you talking about the Algorithm or the algorithm?
https://github.com/zapstore/zapstore/wiki/Sample-app-events
zap.store is a client with a harcoded relay. Feel free to fork both!
App security is critical so in order to bootstrap relay.zap.store is closed and hardcoded in the UI. As developers start signing their own apps we will start opening it, and add a place for users to choose their preferred relays.
G4 storm sending 5 CMEs to Earth this weekend
https://m.primal.net/IFRO.webp
Correct, the app is released for arm64-v8a only and many of the indexed apps are only fetched for that arch, it was simpler for me to build it this way. But I want to improve.
Yes the installed apps are detected based on the package name, typically a reverse domain notation identifier
Hmm it looks like it's the architecture otherwise it would match the ABI. Unfortunately we only support arm64-v8a at the moment, as well as all the apps available there. I want to make it better and more accessible with time, do you have a github account? If so could you open an issue on https://github.com/zapstore/zapstore ?
Thank you! I think it should support 64 bit but not sure about the OS version
Not possible to install their proprietary app without a Google OS (and account)
Someone should build a freedom clone
Interesting, one reason could be the architecture. Not sure what your device is but zap.store targets arm64-v8a.
Or maybe an older version of the Android OS?
Do you have Play Protect enabled?
The more communist option
Searches do not yield any result or you'd like to see all available apps in the home screen? There are too many for that. We're working on social graph recommendations in the next iterations
How would you like it to look?
I do have plans for PWAs, yes
Thanks man, you mean for PWAs or what exactly?
That's fair. Good things take time.
For now it kind of is. Not in the long run, where users get signed releases directly from the developers (and use the social graph to determine trust and recommendations)
aparentemente cada vez mas gente lo odia 😂
Yes, absolutely, it's coming. The app already works on Mac and Linux.
The first feature of this app ever was in Madeira, where I demoed with @npub1ye5…knpr and @npub1lun…27lj the download/verification/install of a zipped PWA file, so that is coming too
(That's when the application/pwa+zip mime type was born)
Gracias amigo, great feedback. Clearing search is weird you're right, will fix. Discovery is coming, step by step!
Right now your event will be rejected. But that is a scaffold I want to eventually throw away. I want you to sign your app and write to a bunch of relays.
I wrote this to share with devs to try to understand how to get there:
https://zap.store/developers
And for reference these are sample events: https://github.com/zapstore/zapstore/wiki/Sample-app-events
I'm scraping a curated set of projects from Github, just to bootstrap the project and make it usable.
That creates a few events (of kinds 1063, 30063 and 32267) that go to a specialized relay, now hardcoded at wss://relay.zap.store .
So what you pull in the app comes from the relay - not from Github directly.
I pull from Github because APKs there are signed with devs' certificates, unlike F-Droid
#note1yru…4req
on top of this great answer, we will have developers signing releases with their own keys - so even without friend recommendations you'll be able to establish trust in a developer and get binaries directly, not through a middleman like F-Droid
Wow, congratulations man! 🎉 🧡Some first thoughts, the app looks amazing, would be amazing to have a kind of catalog or something to discover to not start in cold. Also searches didn't disappear of you clear the text input, neither if you try to go to home screen, what you search sticks there until you search something new.
Lmao I accidentally left a primal link to profiles in zap.store, and this has been the most popular complaint so far
This is helpful, appreciated!
Re: zeus higher version, remember this is not pulled directly from github, but scraped into a relay (until devs start signing their apps, will take some time). Will be working on getting more apps and more updates over the next few days
Primal: lmao agree, sorry bout that
Amber definitely, scheduled for 0.2.0!
Also: can't zap you
that's right, forgot this was a shitposting race
how does this look like in terms of UX?
I'm missing great notes from closer nostr friends in my feed, realized this when manually checking their profiles
And yet I saw a ton of other random average notes lately

I like this idea, and I envision #nostrCI running a pre-defined set of tests for all nostr apps to ensure compatibility.
Specific to NIP-10, can you kindly suggest test cases, noteIDs etc here for @npub1zga…ppvc and primal team to start:
https://github.com/nostrability/nostrability/issues/37
the spec sucks, its easy to do it wrong and its easy to read them wrong. It’s something we just have to fix slowly over time.
Maybe it would help to have a large test case corpus all clients could use. @npub1zaf…26k5 this would be an important thing to do.

respectfully disagree, it's orders of magnitude easier to involuntarily get a utxo associated to your legal identity than to crash a car or commit suicide
unless you never spend bitcoin which goes against the whole point
there are other ways to doxx your utxos besides an exchange, the protocol is not great in this aspect
Planned for zap.store: automatic backups of your installed apps, optionally encrypted.
So maybe not the phone config, but apps and contacts definitely possible to restore with npub/nsec.
