Algorithm focused on interest
YouTube mainly works based on the interests it detects. When you watch videos to learn Turkish or German, the algorithm interprets this as a preference for those languages and suggests native content, such as TV programs. This is not connected to your country of residence, but rather to your engagement signals: searches, views, likes, or subscriptions.
Highlighting foreign content
Recommendations often include foreign shows because they provide a more authentic immersion. The algorithm assumes that if you are trying to learn a language, you could benefit from videos where it is naturally used. That’s why German talk shows or Turkish series appear in your suggestions: they extend your learning beyond theoretical lessons.
Immersion as a strategy
Finally, YouTube applies a logic of linguistic immersion. By offering foreign TV programs, it exposes you to the language in its real cultural context.
