One might reasonably object that that expansive definition would lead me to label much of American life as being "fascist." Which, yep. I do, and I believe that. I don't believe that's a problem, though — it's a statement that the United States has long metastasized a kind of fascism that we're now seeing on full display.
It's why I've taken to the slogan "this is not normal, but normal is how we got here."
