I don't know much about Google Scholar internals but I use it way more than my ORCiD and also it is a great place to search for articles compared to other platforms like Pubmed.
Regardless, about this CRAN DOI, I personally believe it is better than nothing but it definitely doesn't solved the research problem, because the package version number is not taken into account when generating the DOI. That makes it useless when it comes to reproducible research.
