2/ rewind a little, I saw snow forecast for the Southern Sierra so I went to have a look at Mt Whitney. Night hiked for sunrise, waited out lower elevation evening rain and started at midnight. Passed the last people on the switchbacks around 3:30 am and enjoyed tracking the first footsteps in the snow for the last 3 miles to the summit. What a change from the 'heatwave' down in LA county!
