Have you ever tried to cope with a close person trooning themselves? It's not an attack, a real question. It's a very traumatic experience and the way you "strongly believe" in it is just a compensation and it's equal in the magnitude to how you actually do not believe in it. What's genuine is wanting to believe, but not the belief itself.
Other magics you mentioned are easy to believe in it because it's normal to want to know the future or believe that there's something more out there. It does not contradict the immediate realty, it just gives the feeling that it's more interesting than it is.
