- There are kettles that you heat on the stove. Why some USAmericans need to distinguish that difference is unclear.
- Similar to above, there are different kinds of shops. I guess many of us like having the specifics laid out clearly? The term "shop" also carries the connotation of a small business here, which is not true of most USAmerican grocers.

- To be fair, when the bag is too heavy, the handles tend to rip or the bottom does, so we are back to carrying the paper bags like they have no handles anyway. But yes, those of us who are not stuck on plastic do use them. It's a bit of a pain and I like a sturdy reusable bag better, but they're good for collecting compost.
